Last weekend, freeform radio lost one of its great pioneers - Bob Fass, who died at age 87. Fass hosted "Radio Unnameable" on WBAI from 1963 right up until his death. The show was the subject of an eponymously titled 2012 documentary which you should absolutely watch if you can find it.
Tonight's show is a rebroadcast of a 2015 tribute to Fass's live and career, featuring clips of Bob hanging out in the studio with The Grateful Dead (1967), in-studio performances by Tiny Tim (1968), a discussion with Abbie Hoffman about the meaning of the word 'Hippie' (1967), a radio sound collage (1965), several discussions with late night callers, and Bob's field recordings from the 1963 Civil Rights march on Washington.
NOTE: Since all of these archived recordings were made before May 1, 1969 they are in the public domain and thereby free to remix, reuse, and rebroadcast.
