Oooh, loving this track by The Sound! <3
Grant Olsen (host) 7:18:12 PM
They're so good! Thanks for listening
Robbie Prokop 7:35:00 PM
Evenin' Mr. G. And... AGAIN!
Robbie Prokop 7:36:40 PM
You were hinting at these more 'obscure' 80's cuts, last week. THANK YOU! Sakamoto ! AYKM!! And an E&TB track I rarely hearrd even on college radio... Did you like that Sakamoto EP the track came from?
Grant Olsen (host) 7:47:50 PM
Robbie: I thought this week was as good as any! Not all obscure, but definitely some stuff from left field. I don't actually know that whole EP, but I love that song!
DJ Daphne 7:55:23 PM
I 💙 The Blue Nile
Grant Olsen (host) 8:01:56 PM
They are soooo good
Robbie Prokop 8:08:39 PM
The The!!!!
Grant Olsen (host) 8:10:46 PM
god i love this record so much
Robbie Prokop 8:20:50 PM
The Comsat Angels ! You can't tell me a lot of people know them. I'd almost argue The The was more 'well-known' or at least more played. I agree, that Soul Mining is awesome. I also enjoyed Infected a lot. On average, in your experience, do you think debuts or sophomore works 'hit it' better?
Grant Olsen (host) 8:24:34 PM
In general or specific to The The? I like Burning Blue Soul, and I think Infected is a powerful record, but for me, Soul Mining caught lightning in a bottle and is singular, even in a special catalog like his
Robbie Prokop 8:34:25 PM
across the industry, I mean. And have you heard Martin Fry lately? Still has it going in 2024; little less range, but, tone is sharp... Did I ever ask you about the Housemartins?
Robbie Prokop 8:36:49 PM
Johnny Lydon's voice on the other hand.... well... Maybe it's just more respectful to say I admire that he and his mates still tour?
Robbie Prokop 8:37:32 PM
As a non-vocalist, I might retract my last statement :]
Robbie Prokop 8:38:10 PM
Thanks for the great energy and tunes tonight, Grant. Massive appreciation - as always.
Grant Olsen (host) 8:40:27 PM
Oh! I hadn't really thought about it, but off the cuff I suppose it depends of the band and the circumstances. Some bands take a while to figure it out, and other bands have a good one right out of the gate. Just tonight for example I think that The Blue Nile hit it out of the park with their first record, and (spoiler alert,) Simple Minds first record has some great songs, but it really doesn't hint at the things to come. What do you think?
Grant Olsen (host) 8:41:15 PM
I haven't heard much Martin Fry or John Lydon in a long time, so I haven't got an opinion, but you're certainly welcome to yours, no need to delete!
Grant Olsen (host) 8:41:42 PM
And it's my pleasure. Happy to do it
Robbie Prokop 8:51:47 PM
Shoot, I thought I was going to get back to work, but you hooked my favorite band, S.M. I liked Sons and Fascination - I think their 1rst 3-4 albums really distinguished them and contained an interesting mix of UK angst; they kinda rode the border of almost post-punk with some really cool arrangements. But your comment makes sense - those works didn't really suggest what the following 6-8 albums would be like. I appreciate that Kerr and Burchill worked pretty hard to evolve their sounds.
Robbie Prokop 8:54:21 PM
I actually REALLY liked Big Music, but that may have been bc it was a '1rst' in a while?? Even their most recent had a good title track. I DO enjoy Life in A day... I asked about debuts v 2nds bc I really don't know - just wondered your thoughts - and your response makes sense, for sure.
Grant Olsen (host) 8:57:39 PM
Sorry to keep you from work, but glad you're having fun!
Robbie Prokop 8:59:00 PM
Me too! It's a way worthy distraction!
Jessica McGinnis 9:33:33 PM
Some old and new favorites- Thanks!
Grant Olsen (host) 9:40:06 PM
it's my pleasure, and thank you Jess
