Kind of a boogie woogie one-two punch with the fall and swell maps by drift correction standards
Nick 8:35:16 PM
Dig it
Wayne Birt (host) 8:41:00 PM
Yeah, a little punchy for me. Hope I didn't startle anyone.
T Gerlach 8:45:30 PM
Nice opener. One my favorite Television songs, but I have not heard that version before.
Wayne Birt (host) 8:47:38 PM
Thanks. Those reissues do magic things. I didn't know it existed either. Although it fooled me a few times because I kept waiting for the vocals to come in.
T Gerlach 8:50:46 PM
That's my constant dilemma-- I have an original clear red vinyl pressing of "Adventure," and as cool as that is, it has no extras.
T Gerlach 8:52:36 PM
Then I picked up a reissue of Roxy Music's first album which duplicated the original British version, meaning it did not contain "Virginia Plain," as most American pressings did. You can't win!
Wayne Birt (host) 8:55:02 PM
The digital world has proliferated everything. Fun, but hard to keep up with. And it creates dilemnas with us nonwealthy folks for sure.
T Gerlach 9:07:55 PM
There's been a lot of Roky Erickson tributes all over RB lately. Been great to hear.
Wayne Birt (host) 9:09:55 PM
Yeah, I had to chime in. They were pretty much building blocks of nighttime college radio.
T Gerlach 9:11:32 PM
Yeah, pretty sure I first heard "Two-Headed Dog" late on KUOI 30 years ago.
Wayne Birt (host) 9:14:23 PM
Sounds about right!
T Gerlach 9:17:05 PM
Are you trying to outdo the Kansas thing from last week?
Wayne Birt (host) 9:20:12 PM
ha! Maybe!
T Gerlach 9:23:32 PM
I guess it's fitting because a lot of the other late '60s/early-mid '70s bands you play on this show sound so much more like what I thought the Dead would sound like. When I was a kid, the name and the imagery led me to believe they would be this ultimate psychedelic trip-out band.
T Gerlach 9:24:28 PM
The letdown of them just being this hippy-dippy folksy stuff may explain my enduring mild antipathy towards them.
Wayne Birt (host) 9:25:24 PM
I've had to work through a lot to get even to this one cut for the same reasons, believe you me. :)
T Gerlach 9:26:35 PM
All is forgiven when you play Lou.
Wayne Birt (host) 9:26:57 PM
Whew!
Wayne Birt (host) 9:33:43 PM
I'm not sayin'. :)
Wayne Birt (host) 9:34:16 PM
This new album has taken me a minute. I think I'm getting there.
T Gerlach 9:35:18 PM
I think I see what you did, there...
