Blazing
Its hot out there woohoo! Gonna play some tracks from all across the globe today. Some light future disco, some house, a lil liquid dnb, some indie dance tunes n some deep tech electronica from Germany. Playing from singles compilations from both New Order and Depeche. Substance to me is New Orders Seminal work and probably the album I have played the most over my many eons on planet earth. Playing a sexy thumping remix of Depeche Mode's Behind The Wheel from their 6 box singles set. A classic from Saint Etienne too as well as Sade. Playing the Chemical Brothers as I do cuz I'm an old school raver like that. I will also play The Drums because Johnny Pierce is a feckin genius in my view. Finishing off today with the New Franz Ferdinand, The Smiths n a few surprise tracks but I haven't decided which way to go. Its blazing outside so stay hydrated my beautiful music lovers. As always, thanks for tuning in.

Today's Starlight Sessions is a celebration of early house, deep house, funk n nu disco, liquid drum n bass and some Ragga Jungle as well. Ooh how I love that Ragga Jungle. I'll also be playing two remixes of 80s New Wave classics from Bryan Ferry of Roxy Music and a classic from Yaz who if you are a New Wave freak like me was started by Synth King Vince Clark with the unforgettable Alison Moyet on vocals. The Liquid DNB I am playing today comes out of the UKs underground in Manchester and Bristol ...two cities that took this genre to the moon and continues to take it to all new levels. One of these days I will have the time to properly speak to the influence Bristol, London, Leeds and Manchester have had on the Underground electronica world. Unparalleled and it is because of these cities that there is such a rich world of Drum and Bass and Jungle music in the world. America...we need some forums for playing this music so people can hear it on the sound systems its intended for. If there is time, Finishing off the day with two pieces from an amazing electronic duo from Bellingham Washington, Odesza. They are greatly inspiring and so prolific. You could spend months trying to get through their expansive catalogue of music that is uniquely their own style and crosses into unknown genres which is so inspriing.

Frankie Knuckles, Abba, Madonna and Paul Van Dyk
Ahh I Missed you last week. The music never leaves my brain and matrix of exploration and I find something new every week that I can't wait to share. This week we get right back to it and we are going to have some fun. Its a dance party friends and I hope you will join me for a mix of dance music spanning from the late 70s to today.
I often think about how much Abba my parents played when I was teeny and its influence on my perpetual desire to dance dance dance and dance some more.
Abba is perhaps a bit ridiculous and brilliant both and brought so much disco magic into millions of households around the world. Who knew we would get such influential power ballads from a polyester taunting...bell bottomed and sequin wearing Swedish ensemble. They are originals and I love everything they offered us. We will be hearing from those dancing queens today.
I am so in love with FRankie Knuckles and will be playing a bit of his amazing mixes today. Frankie Knuckles is the Godfather of house music and literally created the Chicago House scene. His melding of disco, freestyle, electronic, drums and pop is unparalleled and I am truly honored to play his music today and in the future I hope. Also hearing from Fatboy Slim and some of my favorite trance icons Paul Van Dyk and Paul Oakenfold.....frickin legands those two and a favorite of us ravers of times past. In their light playing a portal beat from Dash Berlin who came on the scene around 2007 and brought that Oakenfold and Van Dyk trance magic back as if no time had passed. If that Van Dyk piece happens to be on your radio today and you have good speakers please do indulge if you can. I am also playing a strange industrial piece called New York. I was a kid who spent alot of time with my Grandma who lived in the city and I was heavily influenced by both her hardcore NYC style and toughness and the intensity of the 80s overall in NY. It was both teriifying and amazing! SO much music, dancing and art. but a machine indeed and those summers in the city were hot!! This song captures that vibe a bit. I hope you like it <3. Also adding some Neu Dance music that hits hard and deep.Always a bit of variety. <3 Which includes The Drums and Lil bit of The CURE today too.
I dream of summer days that make way into starry nights of non stop dancing, pure sensuality and unbridled passion for the beats. I think to myslef......more please of all things joyous after these past two years . Thanks for letting me play some music to help us all shake it off.

Venus in Pisces
A lil departure from all the electronica I've been highlighting these past weeks. Today we will be hearing from some indie favorites like The Drums, The Smiths, Elvis Costello, Stellastarr*, Blur, Aurora, The Lumineers, Amy Winehouse, The Arctic Monkeys, The Bravery, We Were Evergreen and much more. I spent much of the week seeding trays of medicinal plants, veggies and flowers with my dorky oversized earphones on and set the music on random rotation. These gorgeous songs made way from my library into my auditory kingdom. So many sweet love songs and songs about all the dips and trips and chaos of falling in love. They don't call it FALLING in love fer nothin. I'm equally terrified and excited by the prospect of such biggg love! I felt like the music this week was talkin to me. Dont you love when that happens? I was in a 15 yr partnership with a good man for a longgg time and we learned so much together but I eventually let it go a yr back because I really do believe in the TRUE LOVE THING. We were more like good friends..former ravers us two heh. Ah so I live for the real thing in general. Time to move forward yeah yeahh! Forever grateful to the music that makes up the soundtracks to our lives. As it often reveals itself to be, life is most magical and you just gotta follow the signs sometimes. And This week.. I reckon its all about that Venus in Pisces transit. I have been feeling it deeply as if a deepening of that celestial message to be the love, share the love and learn how to receive the love, vibrate the love, magnify the love. Love love and more love pulsing through the universe and it looks like we may just be here to surrender to it and show up for it. All those twists and turns and ways you try to protect your heart. Only to realize that surrendering to it is the whole jam. Ever notice that? Maybe You too?? If so we can swoon together? I am playing some songs for us today. And if not..I bet love will find you soon. Its all around you. You are made of it and the planet is activating us all so we can help heal ourselves and all this deep trauma and wounding all over the world. I like all versions of love and being a hopeless romantic still believe very much in true love. Beautifully sung today by my angelic spirit guides Depeche Mode's with their iconic piece from Songs of Faith and Devotion..... Higher Love. Nice way to set the tone as the first track up. Ah the mystery continues. The Music Guides the way. I hope you find some beats that ya fancy. So much amazing music in our world. So grateful for it and for you. Thanks for listening and tuning in.

Its a disco party
HI friends,
Todays Starlight Sessions had me thinkin what genres I had not introduced yet. Ha..I'm a geek like that and like a musical journey or 10. Today we will be hearing some modern disco, Nu disco, some deep house and a lil psytrance. Most of this music comes from the same source..all heavily influenced by underground dance culture starting in the 70s and into the future acid house explosion..rave manifestations and the many fractals that created. . Once upon a time, turntables and Synthesizers of magnitude came into the discotheques and the djs played the music......and By Giorgio...people liked it. The synth magic of early electronica like Kraftwerk, popular disco and Italo disco with its cross over king Giorgio Moroder paved the way for what would come and it changed the way people started interacting with dance culture. By the late 70s there was a huge underground movement in most cities and that brought us some amazing times and scenes ranging from The multi genred magic in NYC with Mr Larry Levan and the gorgeous soul love machine Frankie Knuckles out in Chicago....and woooo that rave culture yesssss, getting techy in Detroit n across to to London n Bristol with my fav the drum n bass and JUNGLEEEEE crossing into gorgeous deep house n Techn House in Berlin, big trance gatherings in Goa India moving into hugeeeee house parties in Ibiza Spain and psytrance parties in Portugal. All this was a vibration global djs collectovely birthed n rebirthed 100 times holding down and spinning the multi genre magic up. All this eventually giving way into a vast festival culture of various EDM, drum n bass mania etc etc. All kinds of EDM is made in the world today and spreads throughout the continents in many varieties and genres. A universal language uniting nations across the globe through music n dance. We can thank the Paris underground for keeping alot of that disco love going with style and passion as Parisians always do. Alot of great house and nu disco also makes it way which is so fortunate for us. Always giving thanks to the New Wave of the 80s which truly popularized synth music and brought it into the world of teen pop, the mainstream and into dance clubs. I often wax on about New Order and Depeche Mode and the Cure and to this day I'm not sure there has been the likes of their genius of creating hardcore dance music combined with organic instruments while keeping the message profound and engendering such strong emotion. You can hear the beginnings of drum in bass in New Order's own drumming. Ah so Playing some classics today from New Order, Animotion, Depeche, and some other friends. Also a forever shout out ot LCD Soundsystem whose prolific offerings literally blow my mind. You can hear how heavily influenced they are by 80s electronica yet they are sooooo unique. Throwing in a few random fun tunes too as I often like to do. Hope you find something you like. <3

Emergence
Hi friends. Today is an exploration of many sounds in the EDM realm. The set will be starting off with global and eclectic tribal dance music..music reminiscent of several festivals I have attended over the years. The intersection of being in a beautiful natural environment while dancing amongst others from all places and spaces sets the stage for a truly heart opening and mind expanding....often psychedelic experience (even without party favors for mind expansion). After these tracks, will be transitioning into a few straight heartbeat building dance tunes and leveling out into some expressive Dubstep from Seven Lions. Alot of what comes at the end will be pretty banging drum n bass meaning loud and high octane. Please forgive if not your speed. Between my private practice filling up and getting set up to teach a big season of classes, I find myself feeling a bit frenetic as I try to balance responsibility with fun..(like this show). So I'm grateful for The high octane music which pumps me up and I hope brings you some delight as well.Closing the set with Damien Marley and Stephen Marley (With Sizzla and Capleton). This is some amazing music and these kings carry on the legacy of their Father.
The amount of electronica out there is endless...truly like a vast ocean. Now that I've share as a bunch of pioneering music, we can really get going into deep exploration of all the EDM that awaits our ears and our bodies that are designed to move and dance and thumppppp with the beats. I know I bring alot of variety but its been my steadfast goal to help open doors for people who have not been much exposed or been able to immerse themselves into this realm of Electronica. So as always, a lil something for everyone today and every week. I kind of jacked my shoulder training for this years climbing season so I'm gonna stop writing now. Hope you are well soul family. Looks like we are coming out of some of this darkness of the past two years and I will spin some records for you as we unwind and reeemerge. Shine on.

The Drum and Bass
Todays' Starlight Sessions takes a ride into this last months latest liquid drum and bass releases from the Uk and oh my goddess is it amazing. Hospital Records in particular is on point day and night and this London Record label continues to pump out such gorgeous liquid drum and bass artists and so much more incredible EDM. Will also be sharing some jungle music and other EDM for speaker flex through the radio waves because I am pretty sure most doesn't get much radio play. The middle/end of todays show will highlight freestyle dance music from the eighties which held the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens dancehalls on high. This was the music we heard on WQHT Hot 97 FM. and WBLS 107.5 FM as kids which sometimes made way to our school dances in the NYC burbs. Also sharing a few late 70s danceclub class acts. Two pieces composed by Disco King Giorgio Morodor featuring Suzi Lane and the queen of disco Donna Summer. Also featuring a remix from the infamous DJ Larry Levan, NYCs crowned king of the underground music scene in the late 70s into the 80s. There are some awesome docs about Larry Levan and Paradise Garage in NYC..the most coveted underground dance club there was in the city...(before my time ofcourse). Without Larry, we likely would have never arrived at the rave scene of the 90s. He certainly set the entire stage for House music/ So dreamy that Larry. <3
Sometimes I think this lil project of mine to share underground music will transition into just sharing all EDM or even just become a Liquid DnB show. My original intention was to also share the pioneering music that got us to such beautiful music today. Various genres like New Wave, Disco, Italo Disco, Post Punk, Trance Music, 80s freestyle n R&B, early house etc. Then the heavy hitting sampling pioneers and dancaeclub favorites like Depeche, New Order, Erasure, The Cure, Human League, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, David Bowie and more. I love so much of all that music as you may have heard.. hehe. I just love most music I guess. Ha!. A true dance freak. I am learning alot playin the tunes for y'all thank you so <3. I so appreciate the folks who tune in, those who keep tuning in to dance with me and all who like to pump up the volume. Music is medicine and excellent vibrational magic out in our world.
Ah this gorgeous weather is giving me serious spring fever. I hope you are getting out and enjoying the sun and warm temps. I can't wait to the earth becomes green and lush. The kind of weather just right for dancing and blasting the music on high with windows open and wind in the hair. <3 Happy Full Moon and Equinox. <3

Living Free
Todays Sessions is another motley mix of the 80s through today. Starting off the set with modern EDM delights. Playing some OMD cuz they are sooo 80s and so sweet <3 <3 and also Depeche Mode from their Music for The Masses Tour in 1988. There is a fun documentary about that whole tour called 101. It also starts by featuring my fav music station from times past WDRE!!!. <3 Excited to play a rediscovered New Order song I hadn't given enough love to over the decades. The double disc album Substance is pretty amazing. A lot of dance music hits on that one. Temptation from this album is in my top five favorite dance songs < <3 And that album has all this experimental electronica too. <3 Playing A few other 80s gems todayand then playing 90s magic like Bjork, Blur and The Sundays today. Sundays Blind album is a favorite too <3 <3 . Also a lil dancy Daft Punk.
I don't have many rockstar stories in my life but Once Upon a Time I bought a giant pair of high heeled Mary Janes when I was living in Florence Italy studying Art. So my friends and I went out dancing and ofcourse I wore my new shoes and destroyed my feet after and hour of dancing owwww. And I took off my shoes off and this French dude kept asking me to dance with him but I had no shoes. I eventually gave in and we danced one dance and I was too embarrsed to keep dancing without shoes. So I said goodbye and sat down and his friend said that I should really keep dancing with his friend Guy. I said no thanks kindly and he handed me a promo card and said that they were going to be on MTV soon so I needed to look out for them. I figured that was some kind of line. He he. But I swear to goddess, I was watching Italian MTV the next week and there they were. The awesome video for AROUND THE WORLD. Ofcourse Daft Punk would go on to become huge electronica and dance music super stars. I bet they were in Florence promoting their video or album. Darn Mary Janes!! In celebration of magical and beautiful Firenze playing a lil Italo Disco today too from a Vinyl pull. Italo Disco is a huge influence for EDM and New Wave Music. What I would do to have gone to the discoteques in Italy in the late 70s and early 80s. Playing Looking Out for You too for my 12 yr old boy who plays this song on his UKE all the time!! Also a lil early Aurora, a Prince mash up, a Hybrid Minds liquid drum and bass piece (so gorgeous) and a lil more of this and that I hope you enjoy today!!
On Pine Street there is an amazing mural with this quote by Albert Camus. "The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion." And there it is. Everything I've ever needed to hear. <3 Will you join me in the dance party of freedom?

WAR
Today's set reflects my tumultuous feelings about war and the state of consciousness in our world right now. I am sharing some music and some samples that speak to this. Especially potent to me is Charlie Chaplin's tremendous speech from The Film The Great Dictator. I am also sharing music from GENX's youth culture that shines light on all the lies told to us in the name of nationalism and the empty rewards for being a good citizen. We will hear from Rage Against The MAchine, Manu Chao, In Living Color, CYOA, Depeche, Stevie Wonder, Sting, Blind Melon, System of a Down and various Rasta Music. I always play the drum and bass for its potency and power....I think the Lady of the Lake likes it <3. Playing Muse's most powerful song Uprising. Today I will also be playing a folk song from the Ukranian group
DakhaBrakha who has been spreading the good word for almost a decade now
trying to help us all see that Russia has always been a threat but so
has NATO and here we are now. There are many more Artists I could not play today...brave poets and truth speakers out there who try to wake us up. I don;t understand how it all happens..how exactly we lose our freedoms but I do know we lose freedom little by little. And today censorship grows, the news is skewed, intellectual debate is discouraged and doing what you are told and being a good citizen has become a virtue. Well I don't want to be a good citizen. I want war to end. I want the plutocracy to stop destroying the planet and traumatizing everyone while they do it. I am also sharing a sample from one of my personal hero's Mario Savio who was a free speech activist in the 60s at Berkeley. He gets right to it. We cannot support the very institutions that oppress us. We need to stop the machine with whatever means we have to do so. A few more samples...one from The Neverending Story..the single most influential film of my youth and then another in the same vain from the never forgotten Bill Hicks.
There is a certain and pervasive war on our minds..same as it ever was. And while there was once a freedom for us to explore thought, to encourage varying perspectives..even to disagree and debate current events.... what we see now is ever increasing censorship and control of opinion through virtue signaling and acceptable news propaganda. I grew up in a generation that questioned the government, corporate influence, plutocratic ambition and certainly the various payed Institutions and newsfeeds that spewed out long laden agenda.
But today, People have the audacity to call independent thinkers conspiracy theorists and while I agree there are those who will believe anything they hear or see, there are those of us that dig deep and do our homework. We know what this world is made of and whom benefits from war and disease and civil unrest. WE ARE WIDE AWAKE AND WELL EDUCATED. So in my small way I wish to say that Its time to wake up. Our children's future depends on us ending our petty diviseness and othering.... we must stop fighting with one another and understand that there are a few hundred megalomaniacs out there with a not so hidden agenda to control the masses entirely and bring endless war and unimaginable suffering. That is where we need to point the finger..not at one another. Divide and Conquer is literally the oldest trick in the book/ And War is just one of the ways to destabilize humanity. So please remember its not just the war out there, its the pervasive war on our minds. thank you for reading.

Snowy Day Magic
Hi musical family. Recording from home today and hopefully the broadcast comes on through without a hitch. Its beautifully snowy out there and I can't wait to get on some cross country skies to enjoy the wonder with my son. <3 In the meantime, thanks so much for tuning into The Starlight Sessions. A musical prayer and devotional to uplift with music and hopefully introduce a variety of new/old unerground music to our wonderful community.
We will be hearing an eclectic mix of music today including liquid drum and bass maestros from the Uk including Technimatic, Koan Sound, Zen Dub and Rameses B. Also hearing from a wonderful composer by the name of Fractal. Visiting with Jungle music SensationsThe Ragga Twins and a DNB remix of Dezarie's Strenthen Your Mind. Playing The Cure and The Submarines as well as a remix of Rhythm of the Night by Bastille. Plus other various electronica and new wave n indie magic in our first hour. In the second hour celebrating some indie hits including some gems from an exciting genre of music called electroclash. Featuring The Bravery, The Killers, Cinematics, LCD Sound System and more. Also hearing from Tycho, Chvches, Aurora and a few other friends.
Hmm what else..All I can think about right now is Ukraine and Russia like many of you all I imagine. I am praying for peace as well as clarity amongst peoples that no war is a good war or what we actually think it is about. Manufacturing Consent is a real phenomenon and found unerneath the official narrative spread by media intent on reporting the will of the greater machine. Thats why I value public radio with such verve. Dig deep friends and please pray with me that a more just world is on the way. May Putin find reason and release his desire to exact a war machine. Less we not forget Syria, Yemen, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan and Libya. Peace peace peace for Ukraine and for all the world and especially for all our children and the next 7 generations.

In the Name of Love
This show is dedicated to all the lovers. We are many and everywhere around this world dreaming the dream of more kindness, more compassion and more love for all the world. We've never needed love more. A sentiment that I hope reigns eternal, in every season, in every year. Until Peace on Earth. Let love rule <3 < 3<3
OOh I love lovesongs and there are so many good ones. <3 I bet you have favorites too. Happy Valentine's to you lover of love songs. Will you join me in a love ride across the stars into the heart today? We will be hearing all kinds of love songs today. I hope you find a new gem you like. Bringing in a lil Bjork and My Bubba n Me from a KEXP Live session, the brilliant Jeff Buckley covering Nina Simone from his masterpiece album Grace. Then sharing A very unique piece from John Ainsworth who I think brings inspired magic. Hes super interesting and I am really excited to see what he does. Next up is Blackmill featuring the fire faerie singer Veela, Kite String Tangle and a banger from Crywolf and a Dawn Golden Remix of Sleepwalking. And ofcourse added a Depeche Mode lovesong. It was so hard to choose a Depeche song since so much of what they sing about and write about is on the subject of divine love.......and also lust and "sinful" desire and longing ha! A lil Janet Jackson and then jumping into the next hour with a lil dancey dance tunes from some friends. A lil of our beloved Bob Marley, INXS, Iron n WIne with Celixico, Lighthouse and the Whaler and much more including SWV, Ginuwine, Yaz, The Samples, Mazzy Star and U2. Oh and Stevie Wonder oh yes..such a beautiful song. Anyway, I hope a song or two in there sparks a glimmer of love in your own heart <3 <3
So many on the lovers path around the world. I feel that there is a certain magic to answer the universal call to love and be loved fully. Its what we came to do and to be. LOVE. That Bitterwseet path that beckons us home with signs and synchronicities all along the way. The bravery, surrender, opening and trust that it requires can feel daunting. Especially if you've been hurt before. But I believe. I believe in the power of love. And I know many others do too. And maybe as we come into our bloom and flowering, we can help transform our hurting world with the power of our love..our faith..our belief...our devotion to LOVE"S Healing force. THE TRUE ALCHEMICAL GOLD.
I wish love for every being. Every child and animal and soul who needs more of this truest elixir of life. Love is the medicine. It is the answer for all that ails humanity and I will believe in its transformative powers until I leave my body myself and once again become that eternal stardust of pure love without bounds. In the meantime, in awe and gratitude to the music that guides us through. <3

Thank you for tuning into the Starlight Sessions. In the first hour we will be hearing from some pretty incredible EDM producers. First up is Govinda, who continues to enchant dancers and lovers around the world with his incredible tribal fusion. Also hearing from Desert Dwellers who takes us on a ride to a different solar system and back. I so love Phaleah who builds soundcapes as no other can. Dancing with some other EDM delights too. Then visiting with a Jamoroqoi Remix and Romeo Void's most infamous song. I love how fresh they sound today even though the song is from 1981. Also such daring lyrics from a ladybird back then I would say. I like Girl Power Pioneers!!! In the second hour we transition from EDM to the pioneers who paved the way for the electronic magic of now. Thus we go a bit further into the eighties n a lil 90s too. Hearing from Simple Minds, Howard Jones, Bjork (I could do a whole show on her ), Re-Flex with their poignant Politics of Dancing...a song never more felt n heard then now where the dancing has been put on hold all over the world. Oh and ofcourse a lil but of The Cure. We will hear an extended mix of a dance classic. Then Human Leauge, Stars and then the amazing Slowdive who bring new meaning to Shoegazer all around. Satchmode's Best Intentions really blew me away and I am so happy to play on the radio. Closing the session with a lil Coldplay and ending with The Pixies. Ha that song fits mid winter indoor zoomies that happen.
Hope you are staying toasty warm and enjoying this beautiful snowy today. I apologize for the sound quality n lack of loudness factor. I can'e get my hands on any controls at the station because I am recording this from home today and trying to master the interface that is Audacity. Its a journey. Gllad I figured it out and happy to keep sharing the music.
WE are half way to spring yay!! Keep on dancing.

I am so excited to share this week's mixtape on the Starlight Sessions. Its really an honor to get to put these amazing musical artists on the airwaves. Some of which probably haven't been shared much on radio or ever. So I thank you for listening and traversing this beautiful soundscape universe with me while we drift away into musical kingdoms of flight and delight.
Today we will be visiting with some Celestial Sound Explorers like Emancipator, Klātu, B0rns, Etherwood , Aether, Living Light (Eartha Harirs), Nelver, Aeon and many more. I was completely bowled over by Fleet Foxes folk album Helplessness Blues and its heartstring pulling poetry. I will be sharing one of their gorgeous songs as well as some indie hits par the course of bridging the past and present to see how these pioneers have helped shape modern music. Some gems from The Sundays, Depeche, The Cure, Goldfrapp, REM and more. Also, a beautiful live session with the most magical forest faerie from Norway, Aurora, who sings a love song that is so tender it made me cry the first time I heard it. Same goes for the first time I heard Florence and The Machine. I thought to myself..ah an actual enchanted Siren has come out of hiding to touch the hearts of humans. Florence Welch is a wonder to behold. I do recommend watching her perform live if you can. She may in fact be spinning gold with her voice and beautiful harp. I also included a orchestral remix of Lana Del Rey's West Coast. The set today winds down today with The Avett Brothers and DEvandra Banharts gorgeous poetry and ends with a wonderful folk German band with a most magical name, Ewert and the Two Dragons. They are lovely and full of sunshine and poetry.

As of lately I have been overwhelmed by a somewhat illusive confusion about my life purpose..something I was so certain of until I moved to VT 3 1/2 years ago. Since moving here, for the first time in my professional life, I have lost my touchstone of a robust herbal community of colleagues and students and a solid herbal apothecary to work with and out of. Its made me have to dig deep and exercise alot of trust and surrender. And honestly, I still am not sure what I'm doing here so far away from my family. It certainly takes trust to live in the unknown but I can see thats where we all are now isn't it? Life seems to change weekly in Covid America and not much can be predicted. It can be jarring for many. I guess thats one of the reasons I worship music so much. I just love that music can bridge some of this ungroundedness and fear that can come from uncertainty. I know for me, when I put on my earphones and listen to the amazing musical art out in the world, it calms my spirit and soul and allows me trust that space of flow and surrender. Thats all music really asks of the listener In my humble view. To just open up to the experience. To feel whatever the music helps open up in us.
I created a set today that highlights some deep felt heartful expression. What I would consider brave music. One of the things I remember most about WLIR, that amazing NYC radio station I grew up with, was how much they celebrated a good power ballad. They were the station that introduced U2 to the US with the song of theirs I am playing today. You can really feel Bono's passion and power and I think music at its best, can really communicate righteous power and truthful self expression. Personally I don't hear alot of that kind of music on the radio these days so I thought, its deep winter and a lil jolt of power and big hearted tracks might be just the thing. Thus why I also included Jeff Buckley today. He was such a brilliant bright star and his album Grace is a literal masterpiece. We didn't get that angel too long on the earth but I promise if you listen to his music he will come alive for you. I also am adding a powerful piece by Rameses B, one of my favorite electronica music producers. In this piece I am sharing, Alan Watts is sampled stating that the Burden of Life is Love and that this is why we are here and that we are here to hold the weight of that and to embrace that and to help eachother shine together in the darkness. We really do need love...we need eachother more than ever no? Two more power songs I was loving this week and included are by Silversun Pickups and by Placebo. Other unique, brave and beautiful artists today include Furniture (can you name the movie this is from?), Erasure, Bronski Beat, The Cure, Tame Impala, The Drums, David Bowie, Savoir Adore, M83, General Public, The Knife and others. We all know by now I have a penchant for the 80s so I will play some modern 80s inspired music that I hope will get you feeling a good kind of nostalgia. Irish Electronica group Le Galaxie is one of the best things to happen to my ears as of late. I love them!!! So powerful. Plus a very special song by Coldwave underground sensations Trisomie 21, a French phenomenon I wish I was old enough to hear in their heyday. Had to add a lil bit of modern folk for these winter days. I will just play a small sampling of The Head and the Heart and The Lumineers. Kinda Like a good chicken soup for the heartstrings. Hope you enjoy. Hang in there <3 <3 <3 n Stay cozy.
Lyrics- The Last Song by Trisomie 21
Can't remember feeling realAnd the candle burning bright
Visions of love and me
An another face of the world
Beyond your eyes forever moonlight
I look into your eyes
But i pretend, there's two ways
You should hear the sound of the words
Breaking this feeling
Candle burning bright
I see you and me passion
When you tell me what a wonderful world
Loving me, i swear
You just can fall
Into my arms
Into my arms
But i can't great remember feeling real

Happy New Year!! Oohhh What a year its been. Who could have guessed that we'd be in the second year of this huge Covid chaos. I feel for everyone.. everywhere. Humans are resilient creatures but everyone could use a rest and reset I imagine. I am prayerful on such days and I am extra grateful to be here in VT where the people are still kind, my friends keep me laughing even when I want to cry and where the snow still graces us in the winter season. How lovely it is. Vermont is so beautiful. We are so blessed to live in such a beautiful place.
Music is such a big part of New Years for so many of us. I am always curious what kind of music gets people moved..excited...inspired this time of year. For me, All I ever have wanted to do on any New Years is dance. So the music could be anything if people were enjoying it and dancing So many good memories of friends house parties and bumping club with lots of smiling faces and big speakers. I hope some of this music today helps you connect to New Years love. The beat of it...how eclectic its expression and so magical because it is shared experience around the world.
I have only one goal today and that is to get ya dancing if possible. <3 < <3 PLaying a motley mix of music ranging from R&B of today and days past to some dancehall to some new wave dance classics. Throw in a mash up, a lil revolutionary Manu Chao and a few power ballads. The R&B and dancehall of teh 90s and 2000s are amazing!! I love when they get true speaker time! Heh. And I have to play DRake and Rihanna too because they are straight fire no matter what they touch. Amazing humans.
When I was in high school there was this Dance club called The Ivy and they had a New Wave Night us youngins could attend once a week. So much dance music in the New Wave era. And I was there every week at the Ivy in my jcrew sweaters n sparkles (heh) dancing with the loveliest black nailed black lipstick...many chains n piercings n black ripped tights n outfit dancers..these amazing creatures who expressed themselves so freely. Some of the New Wave songs I'm playing today were the ones that got even the gothiest goth out on the dancefloor. I learned a long time ago that punk culture and goth culture while often judged but also so very righteously mischievous, romantic and powerful. And also so truthful in an often plastic world. If any bands or groups taught me about this vantage.. it is The Cure and especially New Order (the electronic lovechild of Joy Division..showing us how The light and the dark intersect, how that can tear us apart but also open us too..the dark seeking to be seen.. to be balanced, released, in expression, acceptance and love. For Transformation.Change. Opening. And its still fucking dancy. : )
Its how I feel about 2020 and 2021...Cuz oh my.... you've been a big challenge for so many across the world. But this year certainly Encapsulates the light and dark in motion. So Thank you for the lessons. I hope the alchemizing gifts of this year help us all find our light in the storms...Anchor in our gifts to we can share them. A medicine our world so desperately needs. Free Expression, Hope, inspiration, levity, unity, love. New Years is an occasion for celebration..and celebrating being alive. I love this reaffirmation..this reset! I so hope you are finding this magic where ever you roam today.
Here's to what I hope will be the closing of an ominous cycle and the beginning of a most enchanted and magical 2022. If we can dream it amazing....I think can we make it amazing?!! At least I hope so. Joy is medicine. Dance is healing and music savesssss!!!! Sending Big love to you always <4
Let's dance out these dark times and usher in the light! Its all around us.
Bring it 2022!

The Holy Days
Today was an unexpected opportunity to reflect on Christmas and how to celebrate such times musically. I played with many themes of sound before realizing that this holiday can mean so many different things to each individual. For many, this is a time of great joy, togetherness and love. And yet for others, this time of year can be the saddest and most isolating. When I was in my early twenties I worked at a fancy psychiatric hospital is CT and the population of In patients tripled at Christmas. So I thought today could reflect both the fantastical and light aspects of Xmas and also the sobering reality that for many this can be a very dark or lonely time. I always find it shocking that the solstice itself and Jesus and his message of love, compassion and tolerance can get lost at Christmas with the hustle bustle and consumer crazy emphasis imposed on us all. That makes me a bit sad but I hope I can serve our mother nature and the universal divine love a few times here today with some sound healing.
We will be hearing from Sarah Brightman..an amazing Soprano who will forever be known as Andrew Lloyd Weber's muse. Also from my favorite enchanted faerie queen Aurora, amazing hang drum musician Daniel Waples and some righteous and eclectic electronica. I had waited to play Mitis who is a very special modern Electronica artist who I would say is more akin to Mozart then any EDM producer I've encountered before. His pieces are literally masterpieces and I will be sharing his best known song today. A wee bit of roots reggae including a Burning Spear song from my most favorite live Reggae album. The horns are all women which is super rad. And A lil more Depeche, a Jane's Addiction classic, Oasis, and lil Stevie Wonder too. And ofcourse a proper nod to some 80s songs that open up a doorway to a simpler time perhaps. Fun fact, the drummer in the Aha song I will play is Gina Schock and you can kind of tell there is a a special kind of girl power in there making this song extra electric. : )
In my family growing up, this time of year was filled with Grandma's chicken soup, my mama's yummy baked goods and so many cozy kitchen family memories. Especially beloved was my step dad's musical celebrations of the classics this time of year. He was an earth angel in so many ways and my favorite memories of him include the music he loved at this time of year. Some this or that but especially Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra and Ella Songs he would sing throughout the house. He would come down the stairs singing and often find my mom in the kitchen, giving her a righteous spin, a proper dip and big kiss. I miss him every day but get to celebrate him and all the beautiful class act humans today through a few special songs I hope will give ya a smile or a spirit hug. My step dad lived every day with great joy and a full heart of compassion for others and kindness no matter who we met along the way. He helped strangers regularly whether we were at the grocery store or the bank or just walking down the street where someone was in need. He owned a big printing company and employed over 50 people, yet somehow found a way to carve out deep friendships with all his employees. He in so many ways represents the best of what Christmas spirit can look like to me. So I Thank you for allowing me to celebrate him here today and I hope you will enjoy the varied selection of musical angels I will play today. I ended the mix with the only song I know how to play on the Ukulele. It kind of says it all this lovely song : )
Wishing you a most joyous eve and Christmas season. Sending you heartfuls of love.
And May your own hearts be touched by kindness, compassion, love, joy and deep comfort.
