In early 1979 I was listening to the folk show on WHUS and heard an announcement for the station's training program, and I joined the spring class. My first on-air work was co-hosting a program called Panorama, a nightly news and public affairs program -- we'd rip-and-read news from a teletype machine (believe it!) and record and broadcast snippets of audio news from various sources. I did some fill-ins on various shows (rock, classical, jazz), but when the folk-show host resigned, I applied for that slot and The Sunday Night Folk Festival took to the airways on the first Sunday in August 1979. So -- that means the show turns 35 this year. I'm hoping to put together some kind of celebration -- I've hosted anniversary shows after 10, 15, 20, and 25 years, at Von der Mehden Hall at UConn and at Cheney Hall in Manchester, and featuring both local and national artists.
