Dhafer Youssef was born in Tunisia, and his grandfather was a muezzin, calling the faithful to prayer. Radio was "the most important school" for him. He developed an interest in jazz at an early age and clandestinely listened to it during his education at a Qur'anic school. He later left Tunisia to start a jazz career and has lived in Europe since 1990, usually in Paris or Vienna.

Love this Estampie 'Ben e crudele'! And I love the ways in which you play with fonts. :-)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:16:47 AM
Thanks, Teresa. It's good to hear from you again.
Krista 10:36:18 AM
Hey Dave! This is Krista from Habitat Enrichment! Lovely yo see The Gond Song on your list.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:39:06 AM
Thanks, Krista. Their music sounds like they somehow maintained a tradition distinct from the dominant culture. Not much available, though.
Bud Burroughs 10:53:28 AM
Always good to hear Univers Zero!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:54:19 AM
I'm glad to have the opportunity to present their music.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:03:44 AM
I love this station and all this diverse music. Nothing like it here in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:05:45 AM
I rigged up a wire and tied it around my antenna to get you in stereo. It is great hearing you so clear now on 103.3 FM.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:06:07 AM
Yeah, sadly not anymore... Until the mid to late 80's Southeastern PA had a diverse station.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:07:38 AM
Glad to hear to are able to extract a good signal from the air. 🎶
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:08:21 AM
103.3 is it in my radio world. I have listened since the late 80s or early 90s. It has always been a place to hear something different.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:09:30 AM
I've been fighting to get you in stereo inside for many years and for some reason it just wouldn't work for me.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:10:15 AM
Indeed. I try to listen as much as possible. So many different DJs here bring such a wealth of music.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:15:10 AM
Funny before the rooftop TV antenna fell in a storm i could get you on my stereo for years. After that happened I could never get nice clear reception. But in the last 2 years or so I figured out if I bought some stainless steel wire and clip some off and tie it around my antenna and put it up under a ceiling tile I get you in stereo again and it sounds so clear.
Bud Burroughs 11:16:36 AM
Dave, is your "mid to late 80s" comment a reference to the once-great WXPN?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:16:37 AM
Clever solution. ⚡️ Glad it's working.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:18:05 AM
Grumble... grumble... I'm still carrying a lot of pain from that format change. 😡 What a loss that was. All that's left is Stars End.
Bud Burroughs 11:18:35 AM
Indeed. Diaspar changed my life.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:19:11 AM
I found a similar station which is hard to get called WMUH in Allentown but can't get it where I live. But I sometimes listen online. It is very similar to PRB.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:19:59 AM
OMG Diaspar yes I loved that show.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:20:39 AM
Yes, the Synthesis of Diaspar! I would always have to pay attention during mic breaks and scribble notes.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:21:12 AM
I'm trying to keep some of that spirit alive on my shows.
Bud Burroughs 11:21:16 AM
Yep, I constantly made lists of things to scour the record stores for!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:21:51 AM
WXPN is ok but not nearly as diverse as WPRB. I do love Stars End with Chuck Van Zyl
Bud Burroughs 11:21:57 AM
I still run into John DiLiberto and Gino Wong at prog-oriented shows in the area. They were my 2 favorite Diaspar hosts.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:22:37 AM
And John hosted that syndicated show, too.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:23:12 AM
Echoes is still on with John DiLiberto
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:22:56 AM
That's the one! Thanks!
Bud Burroughs 11:23:12 AM
Yep, unfortunately Echoes has become very commercialized, although he features something great now and then.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:23:20 AM
And thanks for the WMUH tip.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:24:15 AM
There is also WDVR in Seargentsville
Bud Burroughs 11:23:54 AM
Fortunately, with my carefully-place antenna, I'm also able to get a decent WPRB signal. It's on all day, every day now that I'm working from home.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:24:08 AM
Great folk music on DVR.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:25:12 AM
Yes Bud that is awesome. I had to do some work but I got it on now to.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:25:40 AM
John Weingart is amazing

Link to WMUH. Never hurts to show great radio some love.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:29:02 AM
Listening to WPRB all day every day while working at home. There's one good thing about the pandemic.
Bud Burroughs 11:30:13 AM
Yeah, going back to the office someday will be tough.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:30:50 AM
Indeed I listen to WPRB the most because I can get it on radio and don't have to hook in my phone to play it.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:59:03 AM
