This installment of Blues Off The Record is so good it's scary, with terror-iffic selections! But I realize, it's not surprising that the blues has so many powerful and compelling songs about the uncanny, the nether realms and dangers lurking in the shadows.

And of course, jazz club bandleader, bluesman personality and vocalist Cab Calloway appeared (as a character or through his voice) on some memorable -- and very Hallowe'en-ish -- movie cartoons by Max Fleischer, creator of Betty Boop and Koko the Clown. Indeed, Fleischer used his invention of rotoscoping to create an animated version of Calloway that perfectly incorporated Cab's irrepressible performing style. Definitely worth finding on YouTube!
