Mark 5:26:16 PM
pretty tough opening act to follow tonite Lizbot - esoterica’s Halloween interpretation was fantastic!! :) This is the worlds greatest radio station !
George 5:27:03 PM
Indeed it is!
George 5:27:29 PM
And the KB Halloween sets are the best radio setlists all year!
George 5:28:16 PM
Zacherley, Roky, and Bo Meets the Monster are perfection for Halloween, so the rest is gravy!
Mark 5:27:56 PM
The only thing missing is that it’s not quad plus good this year ;)
Teresa Peacock 5:28:13 PM
<3 The Poppy Family!!!! <3 {{swoon}}
George 5:29:47 PM
I wonder if anyone on WPRB will play or have played "Walking Dead" by Alex Chilton...that's an interesting one!
Teresa Peacock 5:30:21 PM
@George Jones -- Yes!! What a great suggestion!
George 5:32:06 PM
Thank you so much, Teresa! Glad to hear from another who likes that one! :) And Alex in general, of course!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:25 PM
Hey Mark, yes! I love Esoterica!
David Shortell 5:34:17 PM
I saw the Meteors 14 years ago when they played at a South River nightclub called “Hummers”, believe it or not. During their first song, one of them threw his guitar straight up in the air and the whole band left the stage without a word. The merchandiser packed up and left (as did much of the already meager audience), although the group eventually did return to the stage to play a full set. When I told the Brighton Bar owner about the incident, he changed his mind about booking them.
Mark 5:35:36 PM
What’s so great about PRB is that all shows have a different vibe - halloween week has been great on otherwise
Mark 5:36:04 PM
Dismal year
Lizbot (host) 5:37:23 PM
George Jones- Great suggestion!
Lizbot (host) 5:37:55 PM
I gotta work Alex Chilton into next year, but at least he produced one of the songs I’m playing tonight!
Teresa Peacock 5:38:45 PM
Perfectly said, @Mark. Time and time again, I feel like WPRB is the only thing that gets me through the day, week, month, year... all this!
Lizbot (host) 5:39:06 PM
Thanks, George! Thanks, Mark!
George 5:39:09 PM
Thank you Lizbot! And thanks for the great Halloween setlist! Oh, I think I can guess the very cool artist AC produced, but I'll let it be a surprise to the listeners!
George 5:41:36 PM
And here they are! The Cramps!
Lizbot (host) 5:41:54 PM
George, Yup! 🧟‍♀️ 🐺
Lizbot (host) 5:42:14 PM
Teresa, me too! 📻 ❤️
George 5:42:18 PM
A friend said almost every time he went into CBGBs, they were on stage...
George 5:42:35 PM
It was in an email, and I never asked if that was good or bad...sounds good to me!
Mark 5:42:25 PM
And i think the listeners agree w you Teresa looking forward to the next 2 hours
George 5:43:22 PM
Indeed!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:36 PM
David Shortell, that’s amazing! Reminds me of a FEW times I saw The Fall!
Lizbot (host) 5:45:03 PM
And now it’s time for my yearly reminder to watch Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ small but hilarious role in Jim
George 5:45:03 PM
What does everyone think...is Screamin' Jay the first to do the ghoul rock thing (Though he certainly didn't only do that)?
George 5:46:05 PM
Oops! Sorry to interrupt your message Lizbot! was the rest of it "Jarmusch's Mystery Train?"
Lizbot (host) 5:46:41 PM
George, he’s def one of, or really THE, all-time BEST. He was going to record a very straight version of this song, but got tired after a buncha takes, got drunk with the band, came back and recorded this crazy version
Lizbot (host) 5:47:28 PM
George, yes! I just hit the send button too soon.
Lizbot (host) 5:47:55 PM
That Japanese plum scene in the motel with Screamin’ Jay & Cinqué Lee in GOLD
George 5:48:24 PM
Yes!
George 5:50:01 PM
The tale of his recording of "Spell" is a good one...and a legend was born!
George 5:50:16 PM
Man, now the Sonics...superb!
George 5:50:29 PM
I wanna see their documentary...if I ever can
Lizbot (host) 5:50:48 PM
I need to rewatch with my daughter now that she’s old enough to delve into the Jarmusch stuff! So excited to show her all these movies
George 5:51:21 PM
Excellent!
George 5:51:43 PM
And what a lesson in music she must have gotten from you!
David Shortell 5:52:55 PM
The term “Heeby Jeebies“ was coined by cartoonist Billy DeBeck, creator of Barney Google and Snuffy Smith!
George 5:53:10 PM
Thanks for the info David! I didn't know!
George 5:53:31 PM
I know that song by Little Richard, who does a great version of Casper the Friendly Ghost theme!
George 5:53:56 PM
And as for other rock pioneers, I'm so glad Bo Diddley has a Halloween song, which was played in this set
Lizbot (host) 5:54:42 PM
George, yes! She’ll appreciate it some day! She was the only toddler to be into The Residents and Pere Ubu when in preschool!
George 5:54:53 PM
Haha! That's great!
Lizbot (host) 5:55:41 PM
David Shortell, thanks, I love learning the origins of slang terms! Hey
George 5:56:26 PM
That was cool from Sparkle Moore, and it's great that we can get some extra info on the artist as you've provided, too!
Lizbot (host) 5:56:28 PM
I think you’d like Toon Lagoon!
George 5:56:40 PM
Oh yeah! More Roky!
George 5:57:38 PM
This song I think must be based on "Curse of the Demon" from 1957
Lizbot (host) 5:57:45 PM
The spirit says BOO! and the paper bursts into flame!
George 5:57:50 PM
Yeah!
Lizbot (host) 5:57:52 PM
Gworge
George 5:58:07 PM
Cool flick, too
Lizbot (host) 5:58:32 PM
Oops! George, yeah, he took a lot of inspiration from B horror movies of his youth! The Creature with the Atom Brain movie too
George 5:58:58 PM
But while I liked "The Alligator People" it couldn't hold a candle to Roky's phenomenal song about it, Cold Night For Alligators!
David Shortell 5:59:07 PM
Although I’ve loved the song “Scream” for many years, I only recently learned that the group hailed from Metuchen here in our state! I heard from one local radio dj that the record label was apparently ran out of somebody’s house there!
Lizbot (host) 5:59:36 PM
I love Sparkle Moore and she just disappeared after a very short but promising career once she had a kid. She was one of the first pompadour-wearing toughs!
George 6:01:56 PM
Very cool! It's too bad she didn't keep recording as well, but as always, it's just great to have what we have, and preserve it!
Lizbot (host) 6:02:22 PM
Exactly!
jimbeaux 6:04:46 PM
Ya slayin' it Killbot!
Krista 6:05:11 PM
I'm so happy that it's much easier to do creative things as mother now. Still not easy, but easier. Also the German Cautionary Tales ARE demented!! My grandma used to tell me some!
Lizbot (host) 6:06:20 PM
Thx, jimbeaux! I intend to continue to slay with sharpened and freshly oiled appendages of doom
Krista 6:07:15 PM
Human fly is my FAVORITE Halloween song
Lizbot (host) 6:08:25 PM
Oh, KRISTA! You and I need to talk about this in more depth some time! My maternal grandmom was German. She & especially my great-grandmom TERRIFIED my mom as a kid, telling her THE SPECIALIST was coming with his white gloves and briefcase if she didn’t go to sleep! What a backwards method- SCARE kids to sleep
Lizbot (host) 6:10:05 PM
Also, Krista, George made a whole song and drawing inspired by The Specialist and other bogeymen from around the world. Look up Wewe Gombel from Indonesia. She’s the only one who sortve PROTECTS children from mean parents. She’s SO maternal, she has breasts that hang to the floor and she carries them up to her nest and holds them there til parents agree to be nice!
Krista 6:11:05 PM
My grandma told me the grimms unedited stories
Lizbot (host) 6:12:53 PM
Yeah, that stuff is HARSH. My mom, an early childhood lit professor and reading specialist, had an unedited German version of that. It’s brutal.
Krista 6:13:18 PM
I remember arguing with the other girls that cinderella's evil stepmother dies in the end in a barrel full of nails
Lizbot (host) 6:15:01 PM
And of course Der Struwwelpeter is pretty demented. The Czechs have some really scary kids stories too. Little Otik comes to mind. He’s a tree stump baby who eats people. Jan Svankmeyer made a stop-motion/Live-action film of it
George 6:15:10 PM
This is cool, Zombie Walk!
George 6:15:28 PM
I wanted to see Little Otik...have you seen it, Lizbot?
George 6:16:00 PM
I also can't find his newest, final film..
George 6:16:15 PM
Just a sidenote: Otis Brown & The Majestics do a great version of Monster Mash, and Vincent Price does a fun one, too...
Lizbot (host) 6:16:19 PM
Barrel of nails- As it SHOULD be! I’ll take that over the Disney version. Also, not a fan of the Disneyified little mermaid. At least Ursula was based on Divine!
George 6:16:52 PM
That's interesting about Ursula and Divine!
Lizbot (host) 6:17:07 PM
George, yes! I saw that Little Otik on the big screen. Haven’t seen his latest though. I hadn’t even heard about it
George 6:17:33 PM
Newest of Svankmajer is "Insects" I think
Krista 6:17:18 PM
Jimbeaux, is it you who has a spooky French movie recommendation?
George 6:17:59 PM
Cool about seeing his film on the big screen!
Lizbot (host) 6:18:33 PM
I gotta add that one to my list, George. I was told to check out Apples, a Greek movie featured in the 2020 virtual film fest this year, but don’t know the premise.
jimbeaux 6:20:19 PM
@Krista i recommended Raw in chat recently, and Flex Luthor played some of the score on his horror flick inspired tunes show last night!
George 6:21:04 PM
Maybe the person who suggested it wanted to keep the premise a secret. I saw "Phantom of the Paradise" knowing nothing except Paul Williams is in it, and I was very happy with the surprises!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:23 PM
Speaking of Der Struwwelpeter, here’s more Tiger Lillies. They don’t come to the states often, but I saw them at the TLA a buncha years ago and they do the dark cabaret thing so well
George 6:21:45 PM
Very nice!
Lizbot (host) 6:21:45 PM
George, the person who suggested it was Thomas, AKA, Mr. Various,
Lizbot (host) 6:22:05 PM
from the old long-running WPRB show, The Worried Waltz
Lizbot (host) 6:24:51 PM
Mr. Various & I used to attend the live, in-person human Film Festival in the days of brick and mortar movie theaters in the ancient era of 1 year ago and before. I went for 20 years and I am missing this virtual one this year. Not the same watching them on a computer screen, but it’ll have to do
jimbeaux 6:24:42 PM
Oh, i miss the worried waltz!
Lizbot (host) 6:25:33 PM
I need to see Phantom of Paradise
Krista 6:25:17 PM
Yeah, I heard it Jimbeaux. It was a DELIGHT. I felt like I was on wayne's world couch in the best way
George 6:26:29 PM
Attending those the festivals must've been great, and yes, just judging from your setlists, I think you'll like Phantom
George 6:26:35 PM
!
George 6:27:53 PM
How true that not being there just isn't the same...
George 6:28:31 PM
I found a review of Apples..."a full-blooded, absurdist deadpan parable, cut from the finest Greek New Wave cloth."
George 6:28:59 PM
Werewolf/Nowhere Wolf - funny!
Lizbot (host) 6:29:25 PM
I used to take the week off and see 5 films per day from the noon showings to the “danger after dark” films. In recent years I wasn’t able to pull off 5 per day so much with a kid and all, but I never thought those theaters would be indefinitely closed 😖
Krista 6:29:11 PM
WHERE ARE THE KILLBOT STORIES
George 6:29:50 PM
Exactly!
Krista 6:29:20 PM
I was promised a regaling
Lizbot (host) 6:31:06 PM
George, NOWHERE Wolf!! Amazing! It’s actually “Werewolf/No Werewolf”, but I think I like your version better! He’s a real nowhere wolf, living with his...zombie toof?
Lizbot (host) 6:31:50 PM
Haha, Krista! I’ll regale you something good! I am shooting beams of Killbot data to your brain now
George 6:33:43 PM
Cool, I like the new "Nowhere Wolf" already!
George 6:33:54 PM
But glad to know the real spelling, too

Quick Sonics Story...I first read about The Sonics in a book by Tom Hibbert called "The Perfect Collection" and the description of their sound intrigued me...and it turned out that the first song I heard from them, "He's Waitin'" perfectly fit the description of them in the book, as it was certainly wild! THE END
George 6:34:36 PM
I dig these Gothic Archies
George 6:35:09 PM
And Martian Hop!
Lizbot (host) 6:36:06 PM
George, The Gothic Archies are yet another project of Stephin Merritt, songwriter/founder of The Magnetic Fields
Lizbot (host) 6:36:54 PM
Gotta check out that Tom Hibbert book! I’ve heard of it before
George 6:37:38 PM
"yet another project" indicates he's a very busy bee, with more than 2 bands going, ha cool...and yes, that book is very cool!
George 6:37:49 PM
It includes the evil one from roky
George 6:37:57 PM
in the perfect collection...as it should
Lizbot (host) 6:39:38 PM
He also has Future Bible Heroes, The 6ths (though they only had one album,) and has scored a number of plays
George 6:40:53 PM
Interesting!
Lizbot (host) 6:43:27 PM
I’ve seen him live many times and he released a triple-album for his 50th birthday with one song about each year of his life a few years ago and recreated his childhood bedroom on stage. Great show. My husband and daughter went to the NYC show too and my daughter got to meet Claudia Gibson from The Magnetic Fields who then introduced her to Neil Gaiman, and she was super into Coraline the book at the time, so she was psyched!
George 6:44:07 PM
What an excellent day that was!
George 6:44:32 PM
How cool! Both the album, the stage, and the multiple meetings!
George 6:45:13 PM
I'll have to check out how he describe the 1st year of his life
George 6:45:28 PM
For starters
Lizbot (host) 6:47:54 PM
One of his best songs was about the year his mom joined a cult where they weren’t allowed to listen to music and he only had 2 books to read so he formed a band with the other cult kids
George 6:48:04 PM
There's another movie I have not seen...The Astro-Zombies
George 6:48:45 PM
That does sound interesting, sad of course, but I hope the band he had turned out good at least
George 6:49:05 PM
talk about making lemonade with lemons
Lizbot (host) 6:50:11 PM
His mom is his only fam member- no dad and no siblings. She moved them around a lot and had some crazy adventures, but they are good friends. She painted the album cover to that 50 Song Memoir album
George 6:51:00 PM
Glad they still get along, and very nice about the album artwork
Lizbot (host) 6:52:04 PM
I have gone on a tangent of a tangent of a tangent! Do you feel REGALED, Krista?!
Lizbot (host) 6:52:49 PM
This Meredith Monk “Skeleton Lines” songs sounds like beaten bones and sharpening of knives
Lizbot (host) 6:57:15 PM
Buckethead came to the North Star Bar when I was living 2 blocks away
George 6:57:29 PM
Where'd everybody go? I know it's not Jason's
George 6:57:55 PM
I hope you were able to attend the gig
George 6:58:12 PM
And the story doesn't and with, "but I was out that night"
Lizbot (host) 6:58:15 PM
Sucked into a void under a burial ground
George 6:58:28 PM
Typical, ha
George 6:58:36 PM
aka I hate when that happens!
Lizbot (host) 6:58:58 PM
But I was SICK that night 🧟‍♀️
George 6:59:10 PM
Oh, so there was a catch :(
George 6:59:22 PM
But you went anyway?
George 6:59:51 PM
The emoji things are a cool addition
Mark 7:01:05 PM
Wow i drove home for awhile and just looked at this chat - will spinitron be able to handle the volume ? ;)
Mark 7:02:15 PM
Typical lizbot show sending everyone done rabbit holes !
Mark 7:04:00 PM
Care to give us a few of ur favorite horror films- any order - desert island watching ?
Gary 7:05:37 PM
In the spirit of Halloween, could you play a non-commercial Smashing Pumpkins song? Maybe the title track from Oceania, or something else?
Lizbot (host) 7:07:36 PM
Mark, that is my intent!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:19 PM
I could be the lover of anything but butter...
Mark 7:12:53 PM
Ha i think loyal listeners could guess but I would like to hear what first pops out the robot 🤖 brain 🧠!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:21 PM
When, Mark? When first booted up?! Many things all at once, vying for attention!
Lizbot (host) 7:15:51 PM
Krista, is this the creeping dread you didn’t know you needed tonight?
Esoterica 7:18:31 PM
Cheers and happy halloween, killbot!
Mark 7:18:14 PM
Favorite horror film is what I asked ? - just a few !
Esoterica 7:19:15 PM
you ROOOOOCCCCKKK in the scariest way possible, of course!
Gary 7:25:32 PM
With so many people WFH, there should be Read Receipts for everything work-related. It can be difficult to tell who turned a blind eye or if the message even made it through. Or if the person writing back is actually that person.
Lizbot (host) 7:27:47 PM
Happy Halloween, Esoterica!!! Miss your in-person iteration and your costumes!
Lizbot (host) 7:28:12 PM
Gary, yeah i
Lizbot (host) 7:28:34 PM
Yeah, I second that. Need sub-threads
Richard D. Smith 7:29:35 PM
That's an amazing spooky arrangement of the Hank Williams country classic "Six More Miles (to the Graveyard)." And I thought Ralph Stanley's mountain-style bluegrass version was the only one that would give me chills ...
Lizbot (host) 7:30:25 PM
Mark- That’s a very tricky one, but first impulse, (and I’m gonna chest and go for a tie) is Suspiria and John Carpenter’s Halloween. I grew up in Haddonfield, FFS! Watched it every Halloween night with my brother growing up. Debra Hill went to my high school!
Lizbot (host) 7:32:01 PM
Exuma was an actual obeah practitioner. Truly “the obeah man”
Krista 7:32:10 PM
I just heard this album for the first time this week and it has been blowing my mind
Krista 7:32:30 PM
And I missed it!!! I had to run and feed meyer his dinner and then clean up a mess
Mark 7:32:42 PM
Yes i remember u mention how the town is actually haddonfield !! ffs is right term
Krista 7:34:03 PM
This song has amazing ribbeting in there.
Krista 7:34:31 PM
I never was able to collect the ribbet I wanted from the frog in my yard.
Mark 7:36:31 PM
RIP Debra Hill - what a big part of the films
Lizbot (host) 7:39:16 PM
Too bad Sam Hinton isn’t still alive to provide us with more ribbet impressions! Did you have that “Whoever Shall Have Some Good Peanuts” album as a kid? He was a folksinger AND a herpetologist!
Lizbot (host) 7:40:19 PM
Mark, yeah. I think she wanted revenge on the popular girls she went to Haddonfield Memorial High School with! She has said she identified with bookish, shy Laurie in Halloween
Lizbot (host) 7:43:09 PM
There you go, Krista. I worked you into this show today!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:03 PM
For a less realistic but equally entertaining ribbet, we need to invoke the spirit of Clarence Frogman Henry in “Ain’t Got No Home”
George 7:46:29 PM
Good choice! Good news: He's still with us!
Lizbot (host) 7:47:13 PM
I hoped so, but couldn’t get a moment to check! 🐸
Krista 7:47:15 PM
Yes! I'm famous!!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:45 PM
Yeah Mark, Debra Hill also produced a movie I loved when I was 10, “Adventures In Babysitting,” and I only JUST noticed this year when I showed that movie to my daughter for the first time that she used John Carpenter’s Halloween score in one of the early scenes where Chris Parker, (Elisabeth Shue,) is in the living room of her wards’ house!
George 7:52:42 PM
Lizbot, are you familiar with album Bull of the Woods by the 13th Floor Elevators? Roky isn't on all the songs, but I thought guitarist Stacy Sutherland did a really nice job on the songs he sang..."Rose and The Thorn" especially! Anyway, thanks for another great Halloween show! Cheers! Happy Halloween everyone!
Mark 7:53:31 PM
Great show - great lively chat Next years show can’t come soon enough - now there’s only this little inconsequential election to preoccupy us :)
Lizbot (host) 7:55:21 PM
Mark, my NEXT show next week airs two days after the election, but I need to decide the tone way sooner than that and plan it out and it’s a real conundrum! But of course it could be drawn out way past Tuesday
Lizbot (host) 7:55:48 PM
Thanks, George! I love 13th Floor Elevators! Thanks for hanging out!
Mark 7:56:16 PM
Wow wow I never thought about that hazard of pre record - will u be residing in Ireland 🇮🇪 by time it airs ? :)
Lizbot (host) 8:00:37 PM
Haha, Mark. Maaaaybe. I wish I got my papers in order! I need those non-GMO veggies and fresh milk and free healthcare! But really, probably never. I’m the last generation in my family that can move back and be an E.U. citizen
Lizbot (host) 8:00:58 PM
GOODNIGHT EVERYONE! Thanks!!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! 🎃
