Welcome to a melange of election- and people-centered tunes from the American musical landscape. I think music is an apt avenue for recording the human spirit. Today we hear from Nina Simone, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Dave Alvin and Bruce Springsteen, Chet Baker, among others, while we travel lyrically to the Columbia river, the Dust Bowl, L.A., and Harlan County, to name a few destinations. Growing up in San Diego, we'd go as a family to a little beachside enclave south of Tijuana called Puerto Nuevo. Drinking margaritas and eating lobster, my dad would sing this song along with the Mariachi bands...

just got this from wiki: Very Be Careful is a Los Angeles band that plays Colombian vallenato music, a traditional cumbia sound that centers around the accordion, backed with percussion and bass. The group was started in 1998 in Los Angeles by accordionist Ricardo"Ricky G" Guzman and his bass playing brother Arturo "Brickems" Guzman.
