Always good to have some David Sylvian to kick off a foggy autumn morning
Bud Burroughs 10:24:22 AM
... and a cool mashup, to boot!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:25:42 AM
Indeed. ☁ Sylvian's voice is well suited to gloomy conditions.
Bud Burroughs 10:26:01 AM
This is sounding suspiciously like one of those dark shows recorded before we knew the election results...
jimbeaux 10:27:11 AM
olleh evad eht erucsbo !
Liz Bot 10:27:18 AM
Yeah, enjoying this mash-up muchly with my morning muesli
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:27:28 AM
No. Blame my baseline peϟϟimism. I grew up as a left leaning non-conformist in Trump country.
jimbeaux 10:28:01 AM
sames. epicenter.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:29:18 AM
G'morning, Liz, Bud and Jimbeaux. I try not to indulge in my depressive tendencies.
Bud Burroughs 10:36:04 AM
Depressive tendencies often lead to good music!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:36:59 AM
Agreed. But I don't want to bring everyone else down. 😩
Liz Bot 10:41:00 AM
That Änglagård cover looks like a thin slice of ham
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:42:32 AM
I love their covers. This CD is full of great art. They often blend images of faces with nature.
jimbeaux 10:42:37 AM
now i see the face in the ham!
Bud Burroughs 10:43:57 AM
Änglagård was the only band I ever saw that had 3 Mellotrons on stage simultaneously.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:44:42 AM
Discogs samples don't do it justice. The original cover uses some sort of metallic ink.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:45:42 AM
I totally missed their US tour. Didn't get out much. No money and no transportation.
Bud Burroughs 10:47:40 AM
I saw them at NEARFest. They started a couple hours late due to the complexity of their setup. The drums required something like 30 microphones.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:48:51 AM
At least their performance was documented on "Buried Alive". Sounded good to me, but they were in tears thinking it wasn't up to their standards.
Liz Bot 10:48:44 AM
Ack! I cannot under Ham Face
Liz Bot 10:49:21 AM
Bud, were you at NEARFest Apocalypse?
Bud Burroughs 10:52:42 AM
I was! I missed only the first and the 2008 edition.
Liz Bot 10:53:34 AM
I saw Änglagård at NEARFest Apocalypse. I still miss NEARFest and used to dream it would come back, but that was a pre-Covid dream.
Bud Burroughs 10:54:09 AM
Actually, it was 2010 I missed, not 2008.
Liz Bot 10:54:01 AM
Nice! I probably saw you there at some point
Bud Burroughs 10:54:56 AM
It was a wonderful weekend. I'm not a super-deep prog fan, but something about the immersion in 2 long days of it was overwhelming in a good way.
Liz Bot 10:58:22 AM
Haha, cannot UNSEE Ham Face, not “cannot under”. I HOPE to never be under that ham. Sequel to Under the Skin
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:59:29 AM
Yeah, autocorrect is annoying.
Liz Bot 11:01:13 AM
Bud, yeah, it had a really good vibe. I bought a lot of music there!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:12:17 AM
Maybe it's his incorporation of Indian improvisational dimensions, but I can't get enough of Derek Trucks. 🎸
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:25:29 AM
I will misidentify the title of Eberhard Weber's record in my mic break. It is in fact "Little Movements".
Bud Burroughs 11:27:09 AM
I totally agree about Derek Trucks. He's got unique sensibilities that take his playing into some really interesting areas.
Elliot 11:55:10 AM
oh, do I sympathize with the struggle to figure out information on records in languages you can't read...
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:56:18 AM
I was thinking of your show when I said that, too. I like how you unearth unique international recordings.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:58:53 AM
