Swiss punk band from Zurich- Originally called "Kleenex", this Swiss band had to change their name in order to avoid legal trouble with the tissue manufacturers. This all-girl-band (mostly) with a very energetic and original sound was considered by some as a sort of "the new Slits". After a few records and various personnel and musical changes they split in the early 80's.

Mark 5:24:59 PM
Liz / last post election note : hoping to get down this weekend to get pictures of 4 season landscape / crematorium and adult bookstore which is still doing boffo biz ! :)
Lizbot (host) 5:25:39 PM
In ‘97 I didn’t want to go home for Thanksgiving, so I went with my friend to the Electric Factory on Thanksgiving night for a woefully-named mini-festival called “Skanksgiving”! It had The Specials, The Pie-Tasters, and I don’t remember who else, but afterwards The Specials invited us to their tour bus. We hung out for a bit, but we didn’t want to go drinking with them.
Christine Duffy 5:26:32 PM
How fun!
Lizbot (host) 5:26:53 PM
Mark- Ha! Yeah, Commie Francis went down there! They now have loads of Biden supporters posing in front of their business on a regular basis!😂
Mark 5:29:40 PM
But not as fun a “skansgiving” celebration @ Rlectric factory
Mark 5:30:25 PM

Christine Duffy 5:36:07 PM
I agree: Thursdays on PRB is one of my favorites!
Lizbot (host) 5:38:28 PM

Mark 5:40:58 PM

Lizbot (host) 5:47:16 PM
If ANYONE has a copy of the Peter Greenaway film “Prospero’s Books,” from which this song is taken, PLEASE sell it to me! I can only find it as a region 2 dvd these days
Lizbot (host) 5:47:47 PM
I’m always looking for movies that are in the wrong damn region!
Mark 5:48:28 PM
Not unless I beat u too it / I’ve been looking since u mention a few weeks ago !!
Mark 5:49:41 PM
If I find I’ll trade for a couple of other lizbot rabbit holes I’m looking for !
Mark 5:51:38 PM
Never thought I’d hear rob halford do Joan Baez!
Lizbot (host) 5:51:43 PM
Mark! Nice! ONE of these days I will find it. I saw some Greenaway bootlegs on a website that was kinda shady, so I didn’t want to give them my cc! If they had PayPal, then maaaybe.
Christine Duffy 5:51:37 PM
I wish I did; I saw Prospero's Books on cable years ago. Peter Greenaway is absolutely one-of-a-kind, isn't he? Drowning By Numbers is my favorite of his.
Mark 5:52:38 PM
Ha I’ve been looking at local bargain bins that carry obscure plus a few web sites !
Mark 5:53:22 PM
@C I wanna see that one as a liz recommendation
Lizbot (host) 5:55:21 PM
Christine- YES! Cissie Colpits x 3! I love that movie and I love its Nyman soundtrack
Mark 5:55:25 PM
Plus still need to read turtle 🐢 diaries / watch picnic hanging rock etc etc damn u double plus good and ur rabbit 🐇 holes
Lizbot (host) 5:55:54 PM
Mark, I used to find all these rare VHS at the Pennsauken Mart back in the 90s and early 2000s at Movie Mania. R.I.P. the Mart!
Christine Duffy 5:56:20 PM
@Mark, this is why we love Liz Bot! Which reminds me, I should re-read Turtle Diary. 🐢
Mark 5:57:02 PM
I’m kinda afraid to read turtle as I still remember the playlist it inspired / I’m afraid it won’t resonate like that :)
Lizbot (host) 5:57:41 PM
I bought so many movies there and I always had a list of other movies I was looking for for them to set aside for me if they came in. It was all used VHS pre-DVD days. I was such a frequent customer, they had a special list mounted prominently behind the register on the wall labeled “The Liz List”. I can’t bring myself to get rid of those rare and heavily-searched for VHS tapes now, so they collect dust on my shelves
Mark 5:57:42 PM
Hahaha the Liz list/ ❤️ that !
Lizbot (host) 5:58:41 PM
Thanks Christine! Mark, you should read it! It’s so good! It’s also short, so won’t take that much time. Read before seeing the movie of it. The movie is pretty good, but very different from the book
Christine Duffy 5:58:20 PM
Lizbot, thank you again for that one doubleplusgood show that was entirely inspired by or connected to Turtle Diary. That must have been a couple years ago now.
Mark 5:59:13 PM
Didn’t realize there’s a movie : hovan (author?} from Philly right ?
Mark 6:00:13 PM
@C it was probably my most memorable liz show / was scared too get book afterwards
Lizbot (host) 6:00:49 PM
Christine, thanks! Oh yeah, that was several years ago at this point. Russell Hoban was from Philly originally and he and his first wife, Lillian, made those Frances the badger picture books, like Bread and Jam for Frances that I absolutely LOVED when I was a little kid! They both went what is now U Arts
Lizbot (host) 6:03:20 PM
There’s a Russell Hoban line I LOVE in “Best Friends for Frances” where the title badger and her best friend have a fight, and then he announces he needs to go off to the woods alone because he needs to do his “frog and snake work”. I love a good children’s book, and it’s no surprise he turned out to be a great novelist too! He also wrote some pretty out-there plays!
Mark 6:06:25 PM
Just got both Alice books recently from my indie book store/ maybe we should all revisit our childhood faves / looking for some comfort
Steve Volaric 6:07:46 PM
One of my favorite Broadcast songs, or any songs for that matter!
Lizbot (host) 6:08:00 PM
Did any of you hear the bizarre soundtrack to [author of Turtle Diary] Russell Hoban’s play, The Carrier Frequency? It was performed by some avant theatre co-op in London in the early 80s standing in dark cold water for hours! It involves a post-apocalyptic radio signal that offers hints to survivors about the past civilization. It was an underground hit. The soundtrack was never released until this summer! I played it a few times back in August or September
Lizbot (host) 6:08:53 PM
Hi Steve! Yeah, I love this song. R.I.P. Trish Keenan
Christine Duffy 6:09:04 PM
I need to read more Russell Hogan. I read that one book that he wrote in an invented dialect. Ridley Walker. It was tough going, partly because it was taking place in might have been a dystopian England. The language was like a puzzle you had to solve.
Mark 6:10:20 PM
I only remember only from u play / kinda sounded like short wave radio signals ?
Christine Duffy 6:11:04 PM
I never read any of Russell's plays, or heard the soundtracks. I need to!
Mark 6:11:49 PM
Speaking of post apocalyptic could u play some of music from last jette some nite / that was my favorite rewatch last year
Mark 6:12:04 PM
*la
Lizbot (host) 6:14:10 PM
Christine, I have The Lion of Boaz-Jachin and Jachin-Boaz and then a The Hoban Omnibus, which my father-in-law’s friend kindly dropped off on my porch for me one day
Christine Duffy 6:14:27 PM
That's fantastic. 📚 Adding to the list!
Lizbot (host) 6:20:06 PM
I remember when I was about 10 seeing John Irvin’s film adaptation of Turtle Diary with my mom. I didn’t really understand it then. Glad I waited to rewatch the film until after reading the book. My mom took me to a lot of movies that were not exactly inappropriate for kids, but we’re definitely not very relatable to kids! I’m glad she did though, she introduced me to a lot of great filmmakers!
Bud Burroughs 6:21:32 PM
It's just not a Lizbot show without a little Cheer-Accident!
Lizbot (host) 6:22:01 PM
Bud, true!
Lizbot (host) 6:22:13 PM
Cheer-Accident needs more recognition!
Bud Burroughs 6:22:27 PM
And maybe some Sparks is required too, but you already took care of that.
Lizbot (host) 6:22:56 PM
Yup! Sparks & Cheer-Accident are most likely my two most-played bands
Lizbot (host) 6:24:02 PM
We had a Toots & The Maytals cover, a Joan Baez cover by Judas Priest, and now Paola doing Ronnie James Dio
Bud Burroughs 6:24:44 PM
I was trying to figure out why I knew this song :)
Christine Duffy 6:24:19 PM
This may come as no surprise, but LizBot, you playing Cheer-Accident was my first exposure to them! 📻 🎶
Mark 6:24:37 PM
Ha and Adrian Belew & Kate Bush & ... as lizbot faves
Lizbot (host) 6:26:11 PM
Definitely! Would be cool to have the meta-data! Belew and Kate Bush are def way up there!
Christine Duffy 6:27:11 PM
Don't forget Laurie Anderson 😄
Mark 6:27:14 PM
Ha and we only know this cause it’s all the listener faves too
Lizbot (host) 6:28:59 PM
Oh course! How could forget Laurie!
Christine Duffy 6:31:36 PM
When I hear this Monks song, I realize The Fall were doing their homage with "Black Monk Theme."
Lizbot (host) 6:32:55 PM
@Christine- Oh yeah, good point!
Mark 6:34:42 PM
Got any theme shows coming up before year end / esoterica announced her always great glam show today
Bo 6:37:47 PM
Hi Lizbot, how great to hear Kleenex, they were special!
Lizbot (host) 6:37:48 PM
Mark- TBA. Not sure what weeks I’m doing themes yet
Lizbot (host) 6:38:15 PM
Hi Bo! Yes, LiLiPuT/Kleenex were great! I have a lot of the 7” singles
Lizbot (host) 6:38:38 PM
Found a bunch of their singles at the FMU record fair many years ago
Bo 6:39:01 PM
LUUUCKEEY!
Bo 6:41:12 PM

Christine Duffy 6:42:37 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:43:50 PM
Thanks, Bo!
Bryon Mollica 6:45:24 PM
don't slander me
Bo 6:46:02 PM
Hi Christine, Agreed!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:31 PM
That last song, Smokescreen, was by a band with the greatest DIY ethos slogan ever “IT WAS EASY! IT WAS CHEAP! GO AND DO IT!”- Desperate Bicycles
Bo 6:50:43 PM
LUV IT!
Bryon Mollica 6:50:53 PM
never heard this and I love it
Bryon Mollica 6:52:08 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:53:26 PM
@Bryon Mollica- Glad you like it!
Bo 6:53:36 PM
How do you find all of this amazing music, blowing my mind dude?!
Lizbot (host) 6:53:51 PM
@Bo- Decades of collecting!
Lizbot (host) 6:54:35 PM
I come from record & book-collecting parents...hoarders of lesser known pop culture!
Lizbot (host) 6:54:57 PM
Now it’s Shonen Knife covering The Kinks
Bo 6:57:16 PM
I'm a HUGE Kinks fan, AND Shonen Knife, BIG up's to your folks!
Bryon Mollica 6:58:51 PM
so much to learn at the school of Lizbot
Bo 6:58:47 PM
YAS!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:18 PM
@Bo- I’ll be sure to let them know!
Lizbot (host) 7:00:31 PM
@Bryon, haha, my daughter SOMETIMES feels that way, but now that she’s in middle school, she spends a good deal of time rolling her eyes at my suggestions...but I win because later I hear her listening to the same songs in her room! Bwahaha
Christine Duffy 7:01:25 PM
Mom knows best 😄
Lizbot (host) 7:01:36 PM
Christine- YES! Tell her that!
Christine Duffy 7:06:43 PM
How cool: we get to hear Desperate Bicycles again at 8:00 pm when Dana K plays "Don't Back The Front!"
Lizbot (host) 7:07:27 PM
I don’t think I took my parents’ musical tastes for granted! I was always taking their records! They’re ooooold though, older than most of my peers’ parents, so they had collections very different from my friends’ parents, both in terms of time period and types of music.
Lizbot (host) 7:07:51 PM
@Christine - Yeah, I always get that song that in my head!
Christine Duffy 7:07:27 PM
What an education that must have been. 💡
Lizbot (host) 7:09:02 PM
I don’t play “Don’t Back the Front” even though I love that song cuz I know I’m about to hear it on Dana’s show! Great way to start the show
Mark 7:09:11 PM
And to follow up that lizbot daughter comment / ill never forget Liz dramatizing the PRB psa about kids and not wanting to hear what did u do all day and hear in retur : nothing !! Lizbot stretched it out and it’s my favorite psa of all time :) !
Lizbot (host) 7:10:00 PM
@Christine- My parents had some overlap in their collections, but you could ALWAYS tell my mom’s copies from my dad’s because my dad’s were pristine and my mom’s looked like they were used as coasters!
Bo 7:10:04 PM
No kiddin' Christine, if it were a school I'd never miss a day!
Lizbot (host) 7:10:53 PM
Haha. Thanks, Mark! I MISS that PSA. It was my favorite to read, as you can plainly tell!
Mark 7:11:38 PM
Haha if I recall u were back from a trip in sleep 💤 deprived mode and your extended rendition was fantastic !
Bo 7:12:30 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:13:50 PM
Haha, Mark- Sometimes my SLEEPIEST mentals states yield the best shows! But also, my hyper modes!
Bo 7:16:01 PM
Another amazing cover version, damn I miss this band.
Mark 7:16:19 PM
Ha I think I read recently about travelers doing transatlantics and back in short time frames just to get away/ not that I’m recommending :)
Mark 7:18:24 PM
Great show and we STILL have dana and ameenas distinct sounds to come !
Mark 7:19:59 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:26:22 PM
I actually unintentionally woke up for the rebroadcast last week about 5 minutes before it started and then realized it was on and left it on as I tried to fall back asleep, but I couldn’t, so I heard most of it. It was all a blur! Felt like the weekend!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:04 PM
@Bryon- Nice! I love her “I Conjure Series” too. Rimsky to the Rescue is one of my favorite Scout Niblett songs
Lizbot (host) 7:28:53 PM
@Bryon- Yeah, I gotta check out that My Echo album
Lizbot (host) 7:29:46 PM

So that brings me to: WHAT should I do for the Thanksgiving show?!? I’m still mulling it over. Not sure if I’m gonna do a theme or not...
Bo 7:33:24 PM
Just do 'yo thang', forget about TD.
Lizbot (host) 7:35:56 PM
Thanks, Bo!
Christine Duffy 7:35:22 PM

Bo 7:36:32 PM

Bo 7:36:53 PM
And why not!
Mark 7:36:59 PM
Ha with the rules against commingled dinners/ double plus good might be the highlight for some of us between 5/8 pm !
Lizbot (host) 7:37:13 PM
Or Bobby Zanksgiving - All Bobby Zankel with the warriors of the wonderful sound.... Isle of Manxgiving- only Manx bands...
Mark 7:37:47 PM
@CD lol except it won’t be at electric factory haha 😆
Bo 7:37:55 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:37:58 PM
@Mark- Good! The challenge will be attempting to eat dinner and live-list simultaneously!
Lizbot (host) 7:38:28 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:39:12 PM

Mark 7:40:01 PM
Mayor Kenney May have every one in separate rooms anyway / wow it’s going to be a weird one no matter how everyone “celebrates”
Lizbot (host) 7:40:15 PM
@Bo- Don’t worry, I’m just messing. I swear I won’t do an all Manx, Tony Banks and Bobby Zankel show next week!
Lizbot (host) 7:41:16 PM
Yeah, Mark. This may be the one year everyone’s home alone with their radios on Thanksgiving. I don’t think there’s even a parade...At least there shouldn’t be!
Bo 7:41:33 PM
Don't let me stop ya Lizbot, I'd be all ears!
Lizbot (host) 7:41:41 PM

Bo 7:43:08 PM
I think there's gonna be a MAGA Parade
Mark 7:43:33 PM
Can u play old John facenda recordings / various incantation of the autumn wind is a pirate
Lizbot (host) 7:43:39 PM
I’ll be getting gravy all over my phone as I respond to listener chat next week! Looking forward to the challenge! This will make this year’s weird no-relatives Thanksgiving about a hundred times better cuz I’ll be busy on here instead of dwelling on missed traditions!
Lizbot (host) 7:44:02 PM
Oooh, Mark- I think that MIGHT just happen! Good call
Lizbot (host) 7:44:21 PM
And that reminds me- I wonder if the Wanamaker’s (it’ll
Lizbot (host) 7:45:04 PM
And that reminds me- I wonder if the Wanamaker’s (it’ll NEVER be Macy’s to me,) light show will even be happening this year. They always packed in a huge crowd. No Facenda there any more anyway!
Mark 7:45:32 PM
Now I think we’re all starting to show signs of sleep 💤 deprivation haha
Lizbot (host) 7:46:04 PM
Mark, ha! This dude has nothing but loooong songs. I feel
Lizbot (host) 7:46:24 PM
I feel like he has an Ian Anderson voice
Lizbot (host) 7:46:44 PM
Nick Podgurski
Mark 7:49:07 PM
Ok let’s all meet back here on Thanksgiving/ in my younger days we celebrated a “misfit” thanksgiving early as all the friends were bar / restaurant workers who had to work that night
Bo 7:51:10 PM
I resemble that, great idea!
Christine Duffy 7:52:42 PM
I second that emotion.
Lizbot (host) 7:54:37 PM
