Sangeet Team (host) 10:02:55 AM
Okay, I know this Ronu Majumdar piece isn't strictly Indian classical. But it still fits the format.
Sangeet Team (host) 10:03:44 AM
Jon Hassell's trumpet almost sounds like a bansuri.
the_dude 10:20:41 AM
Good morning Dave!
Sangeet Team (host) 10:22:08 AM
Good morning, Dude! I hope you're abiding.
the_dude 10:27:42 AM

Sangeet Team (host) 10:35:25 AM
Thanks for checking in with the chat. It's good to know we aren't broadcasting just to the void.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:35:38 AM
I love the music you play. So peaceful.
Ram Ramaprasd 10:35:07 AM
Kurinji is an interesting song. Its scale ends in D: S N3 S R2 G3 M1 P D2
Sangeet Team (host) 10:36:24 AM
Sometimes Indian classical music can get hectic.
the_dude 10:37:59 AM
Happy to alleviate that concern, love the show, just unfortunately busy at work!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:38:08 AM
Hare Krishna
the_dude 10:38:21 AM
I like when it gets hectic
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:39:00 AM
Same i love hearing it all. Doesn't matter.
Ram Ramaprasd 10:38:31 AM
Makes it more interesting and challenging. You keep enlarging your knowledge base
Corage Mike 10:39:10 AM
Always a fun trip on Saturday mornings.
Ram Ramaprasd 10:39:13 AM
And stress release also
Sangeet Team (host) 10:40:40 AM
Wasn't aware of the peculiarity with the structure of Raga Kurinji.
Ram Ramaprasd 10:43:45 AM
You are playing auspicious ragas today - Kurinji and now Shri. May it bode well for the world
Sangeet Team (host) 10:45:29 AM
If only Ragas had that superpower...
Sangeet Team (host) 10:46:04 AM
If singing Raga Megh could bring rains to extinguish wildfires...
Ram Ramaprasd 10:47:47 AM
Good thoughts have their own potential positive effect
Sangeet Team (host) 10:47:58 AM
Which relates to our next piece. According to legend, the Mallik family of singers were rewarded for ending a drought by singing that raga.
Ram Ramaprasd 10:49:12 AM
Told you, there is some merit to this line of thought
jimbeaux 10:53:00 AM
Good morning Sangeet family!
Sangeet Team (host) 10:54:20 AM
Welcome, Jimbeaux! And Corage Mike!
Ram Ramaprasd 11:01:51 AM
Manirang is another auspicious raga. This song represents the coronation of Rama. Manirang and Shri are allied ragas
Sangeet Team (host) 11:02:47 AM
Oh Pattabhirama, whose name Rama is glorified by victorious Maruti, please protect me.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:03:07 AM
Lord Kodandarama, your feet are soft, like the tender leaf. Your form is of dark blue in hue. You have lotus-like eyes.
Ram Ramaprasd 11:03:10 AM
You got it
the_dude 11:09:34 AM
If you will it dude, it is no dream
Sangeet Team (host) 11:10:56 AM
🤔
the_dude 11:16:30 AM
Digging this piece a lot. - yeah it kind of did just end there
Sangeet Team (host) 11:18:38 AM
I think that sitar piece was a bonus track, trimmed to fill out the cassette to 60 minutes.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:19:45 AM
The Indian music industry is dominated by cassettes. Even on CD, notice how all the pieces can be divided neatly into 2 sides.
the_dude 11:55:05 AM
Interesting, never knew. Yeah, how would you recommend learning more about Indian music, like differentiating between ragas, and I'm not even sure what else
Sangeet Team (host) 11:56:57 AM
There are tons of books. But the main way is to listen to the music a LOT. Like hearing the same raga performed by different artists.
jimbeaux 11:57:53 AM
This show is an education unto itself! Began listening 20 yrs ago.
Sangeet Team (host) 11:58:50 AM
That's nice to hear, Jimbeaux! Thanks!
Sangeet Team (host) 12:00:04 PM
