Kurinji is an interesting song. Its scale ends in D: S N3 S R2 G3 M1 P D2

Sometimes Indian classical music can get hectic.

Wasn't aware of the peculiarity with the structure of Raga Kurinji.

Good thoughts have their own potential positive effect

Which relates to our next piece. According to legend, the Mallik family of singers were rewarded for ending a drought by singing that raga.

Manirang is another auspicious raga. This song represents the coronation of Rama. Manirang and Shri are allied ragas

Oh Pattabhirama, whose name Rama is glorified by victorious Maruti, please protect me.

Lord Kodandarama, your feet are soft, like the tender leaf. Your form is of dark blue in hue. You have lotus-like eyes.

Digging this piece a lot. - yeah it kind of did just end there

I think that sitar piece was a bonus track, trimmed to fill out the cassette to 60 minutes.

The Indian music industry is dominated by cassettes. Even on CD, notice how all the pieces can be divided neatly into 2 sides.

Interesting, never knew. Yeah, how would you recommend learning more about Indian music, like differentiating between ragas, and I'm not even sure what else

There are tons of books. But the main way is to listen to the music a LOT. Like hearing the same raga performed by different artists.

This show is an education unto itself! Began listening 20 yrs ago.
