I think she was into the French Medieval style, Chanson. That's the name of the album from Hanna Hergova, and I've got a little more of the modern chanson style coming up with a new release from Deradoorian called "Monk's Robes"

Radio in bedroom always on PRB will be listening

I fell down that rabbit hole a little this week, it's a fascinating genre. I haven't quite gone down far enough to explore the stringently accurate style where only medieval instruments and some sung in Frankish, but I'm sure that will happen this week or next.

I don't know how familiar you are with Thai country music, Luk thung, but the song I played was a fantastic blend of it with synth! I love country/rural music from around the world

Mor Lam is what I heard first, because of my Laotian friends in Saint Paul. It's interesting you brought it up because it reminds me of Chanson! Written around a poem, accompanied sparely (the origins of it anyway, it got much lusher later). The Khene is an instrument I've only seen once in real life, but it is worth seeking out a performance!

It could be argued that Mor Lam musicians invented drone, since the khene is VERY drone and also was invented in the Bronze Age
