By 1963, after singing as an amateur for a few years, she became a professional and toured with Sérgio Mendes. In the mid-1960s, the institution of military dictatorship in Brazil led her to sing increasingly political lyrics. Her show Opinião reflected her political beliefs and she had largely switched to political music by this point. In 1964, she even spoke against bossa nova as a movement, calling it "alienating". In 1968, she appeared on the album Tropicália: ou Panis et Circenses, performing "Lindonéia." which has my favorite line on that entire landmark Tropicalismo Movement declaration: But gone Mas desaparecida She appears in the photograph Ela aparece na fotografia On the other side of life Do outro lado da vida

Lizbot here! 🤖 🎶 📻
Lizbot (host) 5:07:10 PM
Yes, I’m playing Zep. I always play That’s the Way and some of their other ballads when I’m driving through the Pine Barrens on the way to LBI, and I felt like mentally escaping to that this week
Mark 5:06:55 PM
Ha don’t ever recall zep on a lizbot show
George Korein 5:08:03 PM
Led Zeppelin is Lizbot’s favorite band
Mark 5:08:09 PM
And I typed b4 you posted - it’s kinda perfect for where I’m listening tonite
George Korein 5:08:21 PM
She also loves kissing tiny flowers
Mark 5:09:27 PM
Hahaha perfect / i was asked by another dj my fave and I answer zep
Lizbot (host) 5:10:18 PM
Hey Mark! Yeah, I avoid it for obvious reasons. They don’t need the press! But I can’t say I’ve NEVER played them...but it’s been so long, I can’t even begin to guess how many years ago
Lizbot (host) 5:11:11 PM
I listen to Zep a LOT in my car...so much, my husband asks me to play something else. I always listen on the way to the shore. I just associate these albums with going down the shore as a kid and me and my brother always playing them in the summer
Mark 5:10:39 PM
I’m gonna find a tiny flower 🌸 to kiss/ listening in the glom at longwood gardens !
Lizbot (host) 5:11:41 PM
Ooooh, are you at Longwood right now?!?
Mark 5:11:29 PM
Ironically after esoterica great show I put on gallows pole
George Korein 5:12:14 PM
Gallup poll
Lizbot (host) 5:12:53 PM
I also listen to Zep when I’m on a stressful drive sometimes. I had to drive to the airport in a hellacious thunderstorm a couple years ago and I blasted Zep all the way there and all the way back (was picking up something in the Cargo City area, not actually flying that time.)
Mark 5:12:17 PM
Yes 1st time ever here : it’s amazing spectacular etc etcetc
Bud Burroughs 5:12:38 PM
This may also have marked the first time in radio history that Slim Whitman & Led Zeppelin were played back to back
Lizbot (host) 5:13:54 PM
Whoa! Okay, so I LOVE Longwood and have been dying to go for their Xmas display like I usually do, but I’m kinda afraid it’ll be crowded. Are there a lot of ppl there right now?
Mark 5:13:25 PM
Hahaha to that comment :) only on PRB:)
Lizbot (host) 5:14:11 PM
Hi Bud! Yeah, probably!
Mark 5:14:27 PM
No that’s the beauty/ I’ve been told at most 30% of what holiday crowd would b
Lizbot (host) 5:16:33 PM
@Mark- I always go to Longwood with my daughter and the past two years it got waaaaay too crowded. I’m glad it’s a lot better now. I think if it was even at 50-70% the usual holiday crowd, it would be too crowded for the current circumstances.
Mark 5:17:19 PM
Yes and there’s kinda secret outdoor charging spots where I’m at w no one within 50 yards :)
Richard from Rocky Hill 5:18:44 PM
Hi Lizbot -- Loved hearing the yodeliscious Slim Whitman! Didn't know about his additional fame as anti-Martian weapon. Too bad he was only a teenager and not yet a recording star in 1938: The folks in nearby Grovers Mill could have slept easier ...
Lizbot (host) 5:19:24 PM
@Mark-Nice! I reeeally miss Longwood. It is tempting to go when the crowd is so diminished
Mark 5:20:10 PM
Last request: go back in time and go heavy on zep in tonite playlist / we did talk a lot la jette/ 12 monkeys on earlierE chat - the time travel is hard but not impossible:)
Lizbot (host) 5:21:29 PM
@Richard! Ha! Funny you should mention that, because I was just watching Radio Days with my daughter, basically for that scene where Bea’s date ditches her when the War of the Worlds broadcast airs
Lizbot (host) 5:22:52 PM
@Mark- that reminds me, i should show my 12 year-old La Jete. I have that on VHS and I think DVD somewhere in the house. She can see 12 Monkeys afterwards
Mark 5:23:39 PM
Yes she would im sure love it / it’s my all time favorite short
Lizbot (host) 5:24:37 PM
@Mark- My old family friend Drucie McDaniels has a non-speaking bit part in 12 Monkeys, but she actually gets to dance with Brad Pitt. She played a lady in the asylum. She does the Molly Bloom part in Ulysses on Bloomsday at the Rosenbach every June 16th
Mark 5:24:17 PM
I’ll let u know later how the playlist pairs w the lite show
Lizbot (host) 5:26:19 PM
@Mark- Now I’m imagining watching the fountain light show to this Molchat Doma Soviet techno throwback track! It would be a trip to be live-listing my show FROM Longwood Gardens
George Korein 5:26:21 PM
Ah the soundtrack to the upsidedown bat 🦇 party video
Mark 5:25:59 PM
Wow wow wow / kinda familiar w scene as I got obsessed w 12 back this time last year / love blooms day too wish I could go to Ireland to celebrate
Mark 5:26:24 PM
Love the goth bat 🦇 party !
Mark 5:27:21 PM
I was gonna suggest put a playlist together that matches & come here to listen !
Lizbot (host) 5:28:35 PM
@George- Molchat Doma- also, their album cover features Soviet era brutalist architecture
Mark 5:28:35 PM
The beauty of pre record / anxious to hear the next 2+ hours
Lizbot (host) 5:31:12 PM
@Mark- I WISH I’d gotten to Ireland in 2016- the centennial of the Easter 1916 uprising/beginning of Irish Independence for the Republic of Ireland.
Lizbot (host) 5:31:48 PM
@Mark- could STILL go o Ireland for the centennial of official independence in 2022, if it’s safe to travel by then and American passports aren’t still crap then!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:49 PM
@Mark- Hrmmm, that’s a good theme- Garden/music to explore a garden to...
Lizbot (host) 5:33:51 PM
When I was in Ireland in 2019, I visited a few large castle gardens and the rolling hills made me think of Peter Gabriel-era Genesis and Canterbury Scene prog for some reason
Mark 5:35:09 PM
Ha remember u promised an Ireland inspired show that u still owe us loyal listeners/ damn Covid :( !
Lizbot (host) 5:36:54 PM
I knoooooow. I actually piled up a huge amount of music for that Ireland show and needed to edit it down, lest it be 5 shows long, and then I never did it and felt bad about it. It got to be too long since the trip, so I thought I’d save it for St Patrick’s instead, but then Covid happened.
Mark 5:38:10 PM
Ha I would settle for Gabriel music box era & Canterbury:)
Mark 5:39:45 PM
Talk to u when I’m leaving this garden of eden / might b never !
Lizbot (host) 5:40:18 PM
Sounds good. Did you ever see that Musical Box Gabriel-era Genesis cover band? We saw them do Lamb at the Keswick and it was actually really great. Original set pieces/costumes and all. Had PG’s blessing
Bud Burroughs 5:42:43 PM
I've seen the Musical Box do the Lamb & Selling England By The Pound tours. They're pretty amazing. Friends who saw the original tours said it fit their memories exactly.
Lizbot (host) 5:44:58 PM
@Bud- Nice! I missed Selling England. I heard the same thing from old heads who were at the original shows
Mark 5:46:59 PM
Haha don’t know if u remember we used to talk on PRB phone in old timey days about them / they’re one of my all time fave at keswick which is my go to theater/ goodness do i
Mark 5:47:13 PM
Miss it !
Lizbot (host) 5:48:31 PM
@Mark- Yes! I suspected that was you!
Mark 5:49:52 PM
Haha more lamb when u can play / always knew u had a soft spot for Rael /
George Korein 5:52:11 PM
Yeah Molchat Doma got hype on bandcamp and on the WeTransfer art gallery thing, and I can’t help but think it’s largely because people like the idea of Belarusian goth with b+w brutalist building photos
George Korein 5:53:52 PM
Like, the word “brutalist” has probably done as much to fuel the swing of opinion on that architecture as the architecture itself
Lizbot (host) 5:54:34 PM
@George- Agree.
Lizbot (host) 6:01:43 PM
@George- the “Brutalist” term is appealing and I think appropriately descriptive of that style of architecture, but I personally always liked that style before knowing that term- hence my long-running affection for the I-House- R.I.P.
Bud Burroughs 6:05:17 PM
It's an awfully good descriptive term.
jimbeaux 6:07:15 PM

connor 6:26:42 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:27:56 PM
@Connor- huh, I wonder who said that
Lizbot (host) 6:28:48 PM
@connor- I was having a lengthy discussion last week on here about Robert Fripp’s playing on Roches albums and other early 80s projects he played on when he moved to NYC
connor 6:29:27 PM
wait... did you say it about another DJ? the days/weeks blur together
Lizbot (host) 6:31:38 PM
@connor- nah. I guess it was another DJ about me like you said. I just wonder who
Brian D 6:36:07 PM

Brian D 6:37:29 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:41:02 PM
Yeah, don’t forget Martha’s song about Loudon!
Lizbot (host) 6:42:36 PM
It was Suzzy and then of course before that he was married to Kate McGarrigle, who I’ve been listening to a lot this week on that Chieftains Bells of Dublin album from the late 80s
Brian D 6:43:26 PM

Brian D 6:44:19 PM
Love that family album from early 2000s 2 Green Rocky Road on it
Lizbot (host) 6:45:15 PM
Dave Von Ronk does a great version of Green Green rocky Road on the “...and then the tin pan bended” collection
Brian D 6:45:21 PM
And That song reminds me of Dave Van Ronk
Brian D 6:45:30 PM
Ha beat me
Lizbot (host) 6:46:14 PM
Kate & Anna McGarrigle sang on Il Est Né/Ca Berger on that Bells of Dublin Chieftains album, but i mispoke- it was ‘91, not late 80s
Brian D 6:46:15 PM
Great bio Mayor of Bleecker Street
Brian D 6:47:22 PM
And Llewellyn Davis film. Base on Dave VR
Lizbot (host) 6:47:35 PM
Love that bio! I saw Van Ronk in the early 90s at the Left Bank with my parents! His voice was so rough from endless smoking. He signed my CD! Was very nice to chat with, not an a-hole then, anyway, despite some accounts!
Lizbot (host) 6:48:04 PM
That Cohen Bros movie based on him certainly makes him out to be a complete jerk
Lizbot (host) 6:48:26 PM
He probably mellowed a lot
Brian D 6:49:10 PM
Salty. A good word maybe. But ya I love him
Brian D 6:49:36 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:50:13 PM

Brian D 6:50:48 PM
And of course his Garden State towns song!
Brian D 6:51:16 PM
Dave's ode to the map of New Jersey
Lizbot (host) 6:53:15 PM
He could’ve joined in on the Is Central Jersey real debate were he still alive! I emphatically am in the Yes camp on that issue!
Brian D 6:54:18 PM
Yes! It has an accent or several for fex sake
Lizbot (host) 6:57:13 PM
And it’s own distinct identity and breakfast meat! I can’t actually eat it, but proudly embrace that Taylor Pork Roll is from Trenton. My grandmom always cooked it. She was used to weird cheap meats like pork roll and spam. Had to cook with that stuff during the war. I associate it with her, but I cannot stomach it. Once in a blue moon I get it for nostalgia’s sake
connor 7:00:34 PM
I even argue that there should be North, Northwest, Central, South
connor 7:00:40 PM
haha
Rick Webb 7:00:13 PM
I'm happy to hear 3 songs in a row that are obviously performed by robots disguised as humans.
Lizbot (host) 7:01:30 PM
@connor- no Taylor Ham, here! Only pork roll. Taylor Ham usage indicates a misguided North Jerseyian!

Lizbot (host) 7:03:55 PM

connor 7:07:31 PM
What is Root Beer Lake??
Lizbot (host) 7:08:23 PM
Yeah, I need to know too!
Brian D 7:09:10 PM
Not sure where it was in The Pineys. But the plant life stained the water deep brown
Lizbot (host) 7:09:29 PM
I swam in the lake at Batsto in the Pineys. I remember naked hippies in that lake on a particularly hot summer day when Don mcLean was playing for free outdoors nearby 😂
Brian D 7:09:37 PM
Natural not pollution
Lizbot (host) 7:09:59 PM
@Brian D- I don’t remember what all those lakes were called, but they were cedar water- looked like iced tea!
jimbeaux 7:10:27 PM
Iron rich water of the Pines! Lake Atsion also called "ice tea lake"
Lizbot (host) 7:12:25 PM
My summer camp was Matollionequay in the Pineys. YWCA camp. My Girl Scout troop was in Indewendawin. As a teen I joined the trailblazers troop and camped up the Mullica River- the water was too low after no rainfall for a long time, and our canoes with all our fresh water supplies and sleeping bags went into the river. We had to sleep in a mosquito-y bank with no fresh water and all I could think about was that lake being REAL iced tea and desperately wanting to drink it!
Lizbot (host) 7:13:01 PM
My mom and the Pineys go way back! She was a councilor at Matolly in the late 50s/early60s
Brian D 7:13:17 PM
Yep that's it or them definitely
Lizbot (host) 7:13:29 PM
She was a councilor there with PRB DJ Julia Factorial’s mom!
Lizbot (host) 7:14:02 PM
@Brian D- I got LEECHES on me climbing outta that lake once. They were all clinging to the dock. Straight outta Stand By Me!
Lizbot (host) 7:14:47 PM
We had water ballon fights from our canoes! I was pretty good at steering and water balloon fighting simultaneously, if I do say so

I heard Radiohead for the first time through the wall of a replica Noah's Ark at Camp Luther, deep in the woods of Wisconsin
Lizbot (host) 7:19:16 PM
@Krista- Wow! Spoken like a true Midwesterner! I haven’t thought of cheese curds since visiting my friend Mary in Madison, WI
Brian D 7:19:18 PM
It sounded like a smoke alarm but i really just set off a steam alarm i think. So much boiling, baking and microwaving going on
Brian D 7:19:39 PM
The stove hood is raining
connor 7:19:03 PM
Clean Yr Room was a huge favorite of mine back then. I still remember their japanese plinky bed music
Brian D 7:20:30 PM
NY State style oversalted boil taters
connor 7:20:05 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:20:45 PM
@Connor-my parents took us and my mom’s friend from England to Batsto during a horrendous heatwave for a concert (the don McLean one) and my mom’s British friend, unaccustomed to heat and jet-lagged, PASSED OUT
Brian D 7:21:04 PM
Salmon& broccoli time to et
Lizbot (host) 7:21:15 PM
My parents also dragged this poor friend to a Phillies game and Pat’s Steaks in the abject heat
Brian D 7:21:27 PM

connor 7:20:52 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:21:58 PM

Brian D 7:22:02 PM
Deep east coast injection on the foreigner
connor 7:22:33 PM

There was Mixtape Maker/Heartbreaker, Clean Yr Room, Born Inflamed AND Jetty on the Rocks from Julia!
Lizbot (host) 7:26:52 PM
@Brian D- haha, yeah, she might’ve done better in the extreme cool, but who knows?! She was horrified by cheesesteaks!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:46 PM
Overheated muddy Pinies badgered Don mcClean to play American Pie over and over while medics helped my mom’s friend. A memorable afternoon!
Brian D 7:28:26 PM
"There was Mixtape Maker/Heartbreaker, Clean Yr Room, Born Inflamed AND Jetty on the Rocks from Julia!" <------ Love
connor 7:28:15 PM
A pseudonym to fool him, She couldn't have made a worse move
Brian D 7:29:50 PM
My wife is gonging along to this fine soundtrack. Great overtones!
Lizbot (host) 7:31:06 PM
Ha! I mistyped “Mixbream” earlier! That’s something else entirely...a dream mix? Quit dreaming and get on the beam!, as Bill Nelson would say
jimbeaux 7:32:31 PM
Jetty is Julia Factorial? News flash!!! Sneaky DJs.
Lizbot (host) 7:33:07 PM
@jimbeaux- Yup!
Brian D 7:33:11 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:34:24 PM
@Brian D- Ha! Mixbream! I need to alert Julia to this thread!
Lizbot (host) 7:35:11 PM

jimbeaux 7:36:46 PM

Lizbot (host) 7:36:54 PM
@Brian D- Thr world can ALWAYS use more gonging! I’m glad to hear it!
Brian D 7:38:02 PM

Mark 7:39:53 PM
Lovely playlist to accompany the longwood light show / probably gonna use a zep ballad playlist to accompany my hour + ride home
Lizbot (host) 7:41:14 PM
@Mark- Glad to hear it! 🍃
Lizbot (host) 7:42:06 PM
@Mark- Did you watch the big light show with the main fountain area, or the smaller fountains that light up? Or both? Did you go in the treehouses? 🌳 I want to go back!
julianc 7:41:47 PM

Brian D 7:42:28 PM
3 dog comment ya Liz!
Lizbot (host) 7:43:30 PM
@julianc- Thanks! I appreciate that
Mark 7:43:53 PM
Yes yes and yes tho it was getting surprisingly crowded when I left few minutes ago after 8 hours there !
jimbeaux 7:44:58 PM
Speaking of lightshows, there's a chance of seeing the northern lights in central/north jersey tonight. Has happened before!
Lizbot (host) 7:45:51 PM
@Mark- Most people come at night for the lights at Christmas time, so I’ve always found it way more crowded then
Mark 7:45:37 PM
A lot of late strivers & a lot of service dogs/ maybe bring the parrot as a service animal :)
Mark 7:46:00 PM
*arrivrs
Lizbot (host) 7:46:48 PM
@jimbeaux- I would love to see them, but I need a spot with little light pollution—- seems I never see cool celestial events!
Mark 7:47:17 PM
Jupiter and Saturn 🪐 very close visually this month / closet since 1200s
Lizbot (host) 7:48:05 PM
@jimbeaux- EXCEPT when I was in Arizona with zero light pollution/a no streetlights area and when I was in Priest Lake, Idaho in my uncle’s cabin and saw a falling star over the lake! Then I dropped my hotdog in the water
Lizbot (host) 7:49:42 PM
@Mark- Whoa!
Lizbot (host) 7:51:27 PM
@Mark- Whoa! Service Fripp! 🐦 he’d like that IF he weren’t averse to cold! His species is from Brazil. He likes it WARM
Mark 7:52:00 PM
Great show like I said on earlier chat : RIP Harold Budd :( :( :(
jimbeaux 7:54:10 PM
Perseid meteor activity coming soon along with planetary convergence that mark mentioned! Best aurora I've seen have been in Minnesota & Saskatchewan. Light pollution terrible here :[
Lizbot (host) 7:54:42 PM
@Mark - Thanks, Mark. Sad about Harold Budd. Put show together before that news 😢
Lizbot (host) 7:56:01 PM
@jimbeaux- Best night sky I ever saw was outside Tucson, and on top Haleakala in Maui! Absolutely gorgeous. Fhere’s a NASA observatory on the peak of Haleakala
Lizbot (host) 7:57:38 PM
@Mark- Thanks for updating me on Longwood and letting me vicariously experience the garden tonight!

Christine Duffy 7:59:50 PM
