UFOasis Here and Now 1993

Here Ѯ Now backed Daevid Allen as part of Planet Gong. The group grew out of the UK Free Festivals movement in the 1970s, freely giving their services to associated groups, e.g. Legalise Cannabis Campaign, Stonehenge Festival, BIT, Release etc.. For many years they never charged an admission fee to their gigs, instead asking for voluntary contributions towards their costs via an organized collection at each event. Most of their music is self released.

Have a cuppa ☕️
the_dude 10:28:49 AM
Ha thanks, what are you having? I make my own syrups for lattes and my favorite is a cardamom syrup I make, makes for a tasty latte, I don't always have it but I think this day calls for it
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:30:50 AM
Homemade chai. Black tea, grated ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, clove, milk.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:31:43 AM
with raw turbinado cane sugar
Teresa Peacock 10:31:55 AM
Mmmmmm! @the_dude -- I love cardamom too! It is essential to the perfect recipe for a chai latte.
Teresa Peacock 10:33:07 AM
Simple Syrups should be a 1970s prog band name
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:33:51 AM
Yes, Teresa!
kentman 10:37:56 AM
Good VDay to All, any chance of playing Pierre Moerlen's era Gong, Dave?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:39:54 AM
Yes, one song from Gazeuse! at around 11:25. Too much material for just 2 hours. 😕
kentman 10:41:27 AM
Thank You
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:42:06 AM

kentman 10:45:23 AM
Thank You Jerry Gordon
Bud Burroughs 10:44:45 AM
Yeah, most of them were tough to find in the days before reissues, weren't they?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:46:29 AM
Yeah, in spite of being on a major label, reg'lar stores wouldn't stock such weird things.
the_dude 10:48:55 AM
Haha thanks, yeah I second the simple syrups. And that sounds like a tasty chai, I'll have to add a clove syrup to my roster... And enjoying this gong show, great idea for a show, I like learning more about bands this way
Bud Burroughs 10:49:07 AM
I saw the latter-day Gong at NEARFest in 2009. They were still impressive.
Bud Burroughs 10:49:52 AM
Although surprisingly, the Steve Hillage Band played at the same festival and kinda bored me...
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:50:12 AM
I only saw Gong in Phila for their Shapeshifter tour in 1995 or 96.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:51:17 AM
Hillage's solo work has enormous variability. Love some of it, other stuff not so much.
kentman 10:52:30 AM
Very Interesting as they used to say in Laugh In, Now I would've thought Steve Hillage would've been worth hearing too
Bud Burroughs 10:51:53 AM
Yeah, based on the recordings I'd heard I expected to enjoy it.
kentman 10:54:49 AM
Het dude, you're such a foodie, Iam too, thought I'd come down to 9th Dimension cafe before holidays. I think I might wait it ou till after
Bud Burroughs 10:58:37 AM
While in my teens, I found a UK import of Daevid Allen's Banana Moon in a used record bin. I bought it because it looked so cool, and that started my explorations of the Gong family.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:01:08 AM
I believe Banana Moon from 71 is his first solo record.
Bud Burroughs 11:03:44 AM
I think you're right. And the UK cover is particularly trippy.
Bud Burroughs 11:04:46 AM
I'm not familiar with this Clearlight record - very cool!
Mark 11:07:28 AM
I’m late to this gong family tree listening party today it harkens me back to hearing them for the first time on diaspor way back in the day. fantastic show today! Music + latte syrup recipes;)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:08:17 AM
Clearlight had some good material back then. Besides "Symphony", his "Visions" and "Forever Blowing Bubbles" has interesting music.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:09:04 AM
Better latte than never, Mark.
kentman 11:09:59 AM
diaspor,XPN, 3-6pm wasn't it?
Bud Burroughs 11:10:41 AM
Diaspar was 8-11, at least during my listening years in the 80s.
Mark 11:11:06 AM
:):) I have to admit I’d been sucked down the 2,020 countdown for awhile - youre kinda to fault Dave
kentman 11:12:23 AM
I was listening in the 70's, sorry,I'm an Old Head
Mark 11:12:38 AM
@kent 3-6 was when I would listen and hear music like this during my somewhat formative years
kentman 11:13:16 AM
same here
Bud Burroughs 11:14:27 AM
I think Lee Paris had that slot in the 80s.
kentman 11:15:38 AM

Mark 11:19:54 AM
@bud - lee Paris at 2-6am was the best lee Paris
Bud Burroughs 11:21:08 AM
Forgot about his overnight slots - I think that's when I first heard him in my tender youth.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:21:42 AM
Unfortunately I couldn't fit in anything from Planet Gong, or Mother Gong, or New York Gong or Gong Maison. It's all too much.
Mark 11:22:03 AM
I guessed that early on and it’s such a respite / oasis from what I’ve been listening to for the past week!
