Good morning!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:04:25 AM
Good morning, dude! Welcome to the chat. I'm glad you were able to catch Marvin's great program(s).
the_dude 10:13:46 AM
Of course, I try to tune in literally all the time 😎. I caught what I could of his marathon, I thought it'd be fun to wake up in the middle of the night catch what was on at 3 am but that didn't happen
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:15:39 AM
Same. Marvin didn't play anything too rousing overnight. 😴💤
the_dude 10:22:02 AM
Oh well alright, feel ok about sleeping instead then. And what instrument did you say this was, steel / sliding guitar? Good to hear it outside of country indeed
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:22:52 AM
Pedal steel. An under appreciated instrument.
kentman 10:31:56 AM
the piano, bass & guitar playing are superb
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:32:36 AM
Ah, 70's era ECM records all have that quality.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:36:15 AM
Speaking of which, here's another one.
Bud Burroughs 10:49:57 AM
I'm tuning in late - looks like I missed a lot of good stuff so far!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:51:21 AM
Yup. I try not to waste my 2 hours with mediocre stuff.
Bud Burroughs 10:51:47 AM
Well I'd appreciate it if you could focus on mediocrity when I'm not listening.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:52:47 AM
Had I only known...
Bud Burroughs 10:52:13 AM
I have to admit, sometimes Hiromi leaves me cold, but I'm enjoying this track.
the_dude 11:06:38 AM
See that's the trick Bud - Always Be Listening (taps head) ...
Mark 11:09:06 AM
Haha how long does this lecture go for ?!
Mark 11:10:36 AM
I was expecting a psa that this isn’t an endorsement of psychoactive agents:) !
kentman 11:10:31 AM
pyschobabble indeed
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:11:18 AM
2 more minutes of propaganda.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:11:56 AM
After all these years, humanity still didn't progress.
Mark 11:11:56 AM
Haha I wanted it to last forever:) !
Brian D 11:14:03 AM
When I first heard the voice I thought it was 1 of the members of Negativland.
Bud Burroughs 11:14:06 AM
And the little animated gif in the playlist was a perfect fit for the lecture :)
Elliot 11:14:24 AM
what a transition!
Bud Burroughs 11:14:54 AM
Brian, I totally thought it was Negativland's "Weatherman" at first, too!
the_dude 11:14:35 AM
Beat me to it Elliot, killer transition!
Mark 11:14:42 AM
Agreed on the ozric transition !!
Brian D 11:15:28 AM
Yes! Either David Weatherman or Mark Hosler
the_dude 11:14:53 AM
Does anyone have hope of progress for the future?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:15:52 AM
Never noticed the similarity, but it's true. McKenna=Weatherman.
Brian D 11:16:01 AM
Not many of orig Negativland crew left in mortal form sadly
Mark 11:15:28 AM
@dude yes w psychoactive agents ! :)
Brian D 11:17:39 AM
Just watched the Errol Morris doc about Tim Leary's wife. Interesting but grains of salt required
kentman 11:17:15 AM
there's hope if you're a virus
Brian D 11:18:53 AM
If You's A Virus parody of If You's A Viper queued...
jimbeaux 11:19:15 AM
Greetings, Abnormals!
Mark 11:19:28 AM
@brian what’s the wife’s story other than being married to him ?
Mark 11:19:51 AM
Why’s she interesting?
the_dude 11:22:05 AM
2021 pyschoactive viruses!
Brian D 11:23:48 AM
His Euro wife Joanna Harcourt. Intrigue, on the run w him in diff countries after he escaped, said even she herself was not sure if she was set up to get him brought back to US custody etc... free love , drugs, skipping effortlessly from scene to scene w no money...
Brian D 11:25:23 AM
Interesting in that she believes her crazy stories so i thought why not sit back n watch the doc w open mind but i don't have to believe all of it
Mark 11:24:58 AM
Hmmm sounds kinda interesting / always wanted to learn more about the escape & what he was all about : they say his dee
Mark 11:25:37 AM
Deepness was a ruse / now I gotta watch - thanks :)
Brian D 11:26:28 AM
Yes. It's titled My Psychedelic Love Story or some silly title like that
Bud Burroughs 11:28:10 AM
Never heard of Loituma before, but this is cool!
Mark 11:28:06 AM
Only on PRB would a discussion on psychedelics occur on a tuesday morning / thanks Dave for the year of music & whatnot :) !!
Brian D 11:29:19 AM
Yes. Like a gentler subtler hammer dulcimer. Great sounding instrument. Never heard this
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:29:25 AM
Loituma are another gorgeous Finnish group. Not all their music is quite this ambient. Most tracks have those tight Finnish vocal harmonies.
Brian D 11:31:29 AM
I remember on the Fargo film dvd extras they talked about the Scandinavian fiddle used in soundtrack. Had sympathetic strings like a sitar that added extra droning harmonic tones
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:32:09 AM
Hardanger fiddle, yes.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:32:35 AM
Thanks, Mark. But it's Wodensday.
Brian D 11:33:15 AM
Sounds like a great instrument to add to one's collection
Bud Burroughs 11:32:43 AM
The Swedes have the Nyckelharpa, another cool variation on the fiddle theme.
Mark 11:32:52 AM
Haha I just noticed/ gotta modify my psychoactive dosage :)
Brian D 11:34:28 AM
Wodensday. Day of the Woden. The ancient Scandinavian cult of drones and daylight shortage
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:36:49 AM
Yers, Nyckelharpa is even more complex. That might be the one from the film.
Bud Burroughs 11:40:46 AM
It's got keys, so it's more like a bowed hurdy-gurdy. The first time I ever saw one, it was being played by a cherubic blond 12-year-old girl. It was like being entertained by a magical forest sprite, or some such Scandinavian prattle.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:44:04 AM
Never saw a Nyckelharpa performed live. 😞
Mark 11:47:40 AM
Thanks @bud now I finally understand what the Donovan song is all about !
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:52:42 AM
Some Balanese Monkey Chant thrown in by O Yuki Conjugate.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:54:21 AM
Balinese, rather.
Bud Burroughs 11:57:43 AM
Thanks for another fine show, Dave!
the_dude 11:58:30 AM
Thanks for the awesome music, see you all next year 🤣
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:57:54 AM
