No child of mine is gonna complain about subtitles!

Hahaha yes the geography error / if watch 12 the dvd extras r fantastic / Gilliam walks thru the whole process and how he almost didn’t put name on the movie when they wanted lots of changes

Just wanted to drop in to say HNY & thank you for playing the band Copiers a couple weeks ago, which is now my #1 favorite record. And also 100% on the Miyazaki (esp. Nausicäa)

First studio screening had disastrous audience response :(

Castle in the Sky is near the top of my Miyazaki list for The haunting portrayal of the decaying floating island, althoughI could do with less of the humorous bad guy chase scenes

@sean- The only movie my daughter put the kibosh on was Laurel & Hardy “Tin Soldiers On Parade”, which...fair enough. That one is kinda off. I had never seen it, and we didn’t get more than 10 minutes in. I just remember liking the movie where they join the Foreign Legion and sing Shine On, Harvest Moon

@Sean- My favorite Miyazaki/Ghibli films are, in no particular order: Spirited Away, Totoro, Ponyo, Whisper of the Heart, Only Yesterday (which practically has a WPRB-esque soundtrack!!), and The Wind Rises

Oh god, and Howl’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Mononoke, which has a white wolf to rival my own white wolf dog!

@Mark- YES! It figures Deirdre would like that movie. It is great. I have it on VHS I bought 20 years ago, but need a DVD or to find it on streaming. DEFINITELY one I want to show Hattie (my kid) I love Svankmeyer. The Brothers Quay (who went to UArts) were very inspired by Svankmeyer and all that Czech stop-motion animation (the Czech government funds its artists!)

My dad named me after the John Wayne character in The quiet Man. My grandfather was a boxer, one generation removed from Ireland. I guess the movie made an impact on him in 1954

Graham Linehan also made The I.T. Crowd. But my current Irish favs are MOONE Boy with Chris O’Dowd, set in Roscommon in the 90s based on his childhood (it ended a couple years ago) and Bridget & Eamon!

Chris O'Dowd is so good. Reminds me of a musician friend a bit (lookswise)

Also, I heard The Young Offenders is good. Show is set in Cork, based on the movie which I saw and that was funny! All Cork actors trained at Trinity.

@Sean- Oh wow. My dad is 1st generation (I can gave Irish Citizenship/EU citizenship if I ever bother getting my paperwork together,) and he always talks about the quiet man! He was born in ‘39, so that movie was big when he was a teen!

My paternal grandmom is a McConnell from Cashel Glebe in Donegal, Granddad was from just outside Galway City.
