The band was formed in 1989 by Rick Eddy and Tim Drumheller, an American duo of multi-instrumentalists who handle keyboards, guitars, percussions, flute and trumpet, although they regularly enlist the contribution of talented guest musicians, in this case Scott McGill (guitar) and Vic Stevens (drums). Heavily keyboard based (especially the piano), their style is a mixture of jazz, rock and classical (symphonic) music.

The show is still being recorded remotely - like our Dear Leader.

the_dude 10:07:40 AM
Cool, yeah are other DJs in studio? And some are remote but live?
the_dude 10:08:21 AM
I've been wondering when I can call in to the studio again...
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:09:52 AM
sᵷui̩ʇǝǝɹ⅁, dude. The WPRB studio is still off limits. All broadcasting is remote. Increasingly, WPRB DJs are live. My show is still pre-recorded.
the_dude 10:14:50 AM
Happy new year to you too! And makes sense, and yeah I appreciate all wprb and the DJs have been doing. I remember when live shows first went on hiatus with the pandemic and it was a shock, I imagine there's a lot of work going on behind the scenes
Mark 10:16:24 AM
Hi dave: where do i find what spinitron stations r still manned by robots 🤖?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:17:31 AM
Yes, loads of work going on by WPRB management.
Mark 10:20:19 AM
We all appreciate the efforts by PRB people to have u all on the air remotely / live or recorded It was great joy to this listener when u all started returning last May :)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:21:35 AM
Spintron.com has a map with stations. They only post what is in their database (i.e. that have the little CD cover thumbnails). I don't think they ever post the obscure things that dierdre finds.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:22:16 AM
Stations on automation have an *asterisk next to the timestamp.
Mark 10:22:54 AM
Do u have anymore terrance McKenna clips to play ? Article in inquirer today about the evolving view on psychedelics 🍄 !:)
kentman 10:24:28 AM
Good 2020 to you Dave, Mark, Dude, got up late, glad to hear you show while the sun shines brightly
Mark 10:23:50 AM
Haha about deidre or dave the obscure too :)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:24:59 AM
I have more McKenna lectures on the one CD with Spacetime Continuum, but have no plans to air them. He should have more online.
kentman 10:25:05 AM
jeez, I meant 2021
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:25:42 AM
It'll take me 10 months to get used to writing 2021.
Mark 10:25:11 AM
Haha I’m gonna seek them out / that was pretty great last week !
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:26:43 AM
@ Mark, I am obscure, but my musical selections not so much. Especially compared to other WPRB DJs.
the_dude 10:28:18 AM
Morning kentman, a good 2021 to you too . And I'm surprised at everything spinitron does have. And digging the metal vibes in this track
Mark 10:28:54 AM
Ur too modest tho I wholeheartedly agree that all the dj’s r amazing in playing so much great stuff that I’m not the least bit familiar/ looking forward to listening to next 90 minutes in bright sunshine ☀️
kentman 10:30:12 AM
Dude, I was wondering if not having the Mummers this year effected you
the_dude 10:31:15 AM
Agreed Mark! A lot of the DJs are so modest in the chat!
the_dude 10:31:53 AM
And you know I decided to just close new year's day anyway so it wasn't that big a deal, thanks for asking.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:32:45 AM
You chatters are too modest. Many of you are musicians and know music much more than I.
the_dude 10:32:54 AM
And I was actually closed last year new year's day so I'm not sure what I missed ( and I've only been here two years) but yeah I'm pretty sure a normal new years day next to Pat's steaks would be pretty crazy..maybe next year...
the_dude 10:34:04 AM
Yeah I'm blown away by how much music people here know, I'm just tryna keep up! And I do appreciate the lack of pretentiousness too
kentman 10:35:22 AM
Dave, I spent tears tracking down a Ralp Towner piece called, "Drifting Petals", on XPN,when the dj announced it I though he or she said"
kentman 10:36:07 AM
"Shifting Pedals", what a wild goose chase
the_dude 10:36:55 AM
Ha aww man so close, I feel like I've been there
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:38:07 AM
Drifting Petals, from Towner's previous LP Solstice.
kentman 10:38:48 AM
that's why I love the posted songfests, saves a lot of footwork and head scratching
kentman 10:39:50 AM
safari grammerly wanted me to write songfest, I meant song list
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:40:01 AM
I searched through Discogs for tracks. Tedious, but possible.
the_dude 10:39:22 AM

kentman 10:41:17 AM
Exactly, Dude
kentman 10:42:57 AM
Yes, Solstice, very unsung guitarist
Bud Burroughs 10:43:24 AM
Google is supposed to support "humming" a melody now, but it doesn't seem to work very well.
kentman 10:46:40 AM
I find Discogs a very confusing marketplace
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:47:55 AM
I end up using Discogs a lot to get info on discographies, plus record dates and tracks and labels.
kentman 10:48:47 AM
My complaint is that it takes eons for a seller to acknowledge a purchase
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:49:05 AM
I've never tried to purchase anything there.
Bud Burroughs 10:49:22 AM
I think it depends a lot on the seller. I've had good and bad transactions there.
kentman 10:50:01 AM
My last transaction was good, a seller from Canada
kentman 10:50:44 AM
much prefer Bandcamp's website
Bud Burroughs 10:52:12 AM
I don't know how easy it is for sellers to use, but that's probably because I can't seem to bring myself to actually sell a record once I own it...
kentman 10:53:26 AM
The first place I'd go is Princeton Record Exchange
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:53:27 AM
My home away from home. I should set up a cot in back where it's quiet, under the classical shelves.
Bud Burroughs 10:54:40 AM
Yep, nothing beats in-person shopping!
kentman 10:55:42 AM
been there, It'a amazing how inexpensive classical cds are there. In Tower records day I could only afford maybe two
Bud Burroughs 10:57:51 AM
Unfortunately it's about an hour away for me. I have to make do with Siren records in Doylestown, which is a lot closer.
kentman 10:59:07 AM
love Steve Tibbetts.Another underplayed guitarist
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 10:59:47 AM
Indeed, I am a Tibbetts completist. I try to air his stuff every week or two - because nobody else does.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:00:38 AM
Except maybe Jerry, once, when the CD is just released.
kentman 11:00:45 AM
my favorite is the one he did with the Tibetan monk
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:01:04 AM
There are two. Cho and Selwa.
kentman 11:01:26 AM
Cho is divine in my opinion
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:02:35 AM
Indeed. very unusual.
kentman 11:03:16 AM
if Mark is still in the chat, you'd love Cho by Steve Tibbetts
Mark 11:06:01 AM
Just got back on : was driving for a bit / gonna pull that up kentman later on !
Mark 11:07:19 AM
Hahaha about tim & scratchy vynal / he is the master!!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:08:22 AM
Yeah, Tim's shows are terrific.
kentman 11:08:38 AM
it would go with that article
the_dude 11:09:43 AM
Selecta Jerry? Does tibbetts have some Caribbean tunes? And I've heard the largest discogs seller is located in South Philly, but it's a small record store itself so you can't really peruse the collection in person
kentman 11:10:00 AM
Dave, am checking out California Guitar Trio
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:10:41 AM
Tibbetss uses no jamaican rhythms.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:11:32 AM
California Guitar Trio has some good tunes, sometimes proto-math rock.
the_dude 11:11:33 AM
Ah oh Jerry Gordon
kentman 11:12:15 AM
your show still sends me scrambling
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:12:34 AM
Yes, Jerry Gordon hits as many new jazz releases he can. But he gets swamped so manages to sometimes only play one song.
the_dude 11:14:00 AM
I love this bass
Mark 11:15:09 AM
@dude what’s the s philly record store i might seek it out in person soon ?!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:16:32 AM
Richard Sinclair on bass. Ex Hatfield and the North. And Camel. And Caravan,.
kentman 11:18:25 AM
Covet is amazing!
the_dude 11:18:11 AM
Beautiful world syndicate. It's not the biggest but my friend works there and just does discogs all day for them. I have another friend who owns his own record store in collegeville, since you seem to be in the burbs
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:19:04 AM
Indeed, Covet is great. I just got their latest from 2020 and will air some in the coming weeks.
the_dude 11:19:00 AM
Oh cool, thanks for the info Dave
kentman 11:20:44 AM
where are they from?
kentman 11:24:17 AM
The first thing I'm gonna do when I get back in Philly is get an expresso at the Dude's shop
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:26:20 AM
Covet is from SanFrancisco. Typical of California math rock like Chon and Floral - more pretty and less metal.
Mark 11:32:43 AM
Thanks @dude i kinda straddle city and suburban areas so I can get to both pretty easy / I’m definitely gonna check both out / where the espresso shop be ?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:38:05 AM

kentman 11:38:45 AM

Hey thanks guys! I'm at 1309 s. 9th Street in South Philly, right near Pat's steaks, just listen for prb being blasted.. I'm the only employee here so just mention you're from the chat!

I’ve also mentioned on other chats prb is within listening range of Biden summer White House / can see him groovin to this in the summer or at least SOTC on his summer Saturday’s :)

ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 11:44:55 AM
Yeah, the band was short-lived. But without intelligible lyrics, what is there to object to?
Bud Burroughs 11:45:21 AM
Well, they sound kinda subversive...
the_dude 11:44:48 AM
Oh and Dave, if you ever make to my shop, chai tea, or whatever you like on me

the_dude 11:53:24 AM
