“Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” was the first August Wilson play I ever read. I just watched the newly released film of it on Netflix. Not until an hour into the movie did I realize it was Chadwick Boseman playing Levee (his final role I suppose). This is the same man who played T’Challa? That’s impressive dramatic range.

I’ve seen Joe Jack Talcum play a couple of low-profile shows deep here in NJ, including one in an actual log cabin in Manchester Township! I spoke with him about the inspiration for his band’s name. He dispelled me of my long-held misapprehension that it came from Monty Python’s milkman skit.
