Lunar Notes is a good autobio by Magic Band member Zoot/Bill Harkleroad.

I've heard Drumbo's book is being reissued soon.

I have to read Drumbo's book. Read Harkleroad"s that was informative on the music details and the "Don torture" details

Drumbo's book is 5 more years of all that.

And the Mike Barnes book too. That was the first I read. My favorite moment in CB bios & documentaries is Ry Cooder's perfect impression of Don on a British made doc that was on You Tube while back. Can't find it now or at least I can't find that section

WPRB was the 1st place I ever heard the Grow Fins box set. They played the rarity Here I Am As I Always Am a bunch when that came out. Love that tuneFrying Pan and Yellow Brick Road too

Listening to 'Her Eyes Are a Blue Million Miles', I can't help but compare it to PJ Harvey's 'His Grace'. It's like Harvey misheard the refrain from Beefheart's song and translated it into 'Let me ride on His Grace for awhile'.

PJ and Don were friends. She's on record somewhere saying she'd play her records for him whenever she'd finish one and take down his comments.

Yeah, she also said that her parents were huge Beefheart fans and that she grew up listening to all his records. As a kid, she thought they were the most awful, tedious stuff ever. Then she had a change of (beef)heart at around age 16...
