Good afternoon, everbody! Thank you for coming!
Brian D 12:04:42 PM

Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:05:06 PM
Ha! Hi Brian!
Mark 12:05:20 PM
Hi Jerry thought I’d get in early before this chat room got too crowded :) who was the music under that station ID ?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:05:57 PM
Barrett Martin Group featuring Mehnaz Hoosein
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:06:31 PM
Mark, it's a CD of short little unusual tracks, perfect for IDs
Mark 12:07:22 PM
The ID music is beautiful, might need a different voice to do the Actual ID :) :)
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:07:33 PM
Mark, are you headed to your old hunting grounds?
Mark 12:08:32 PM
No hunkered down inside gotta do my Phil Spector homework before I go next week !
Brian D 12:10:03 PM
Ahh Mr Abrahams & co. The Blodwyn version of Cuckoo
Mark 12:10:26 PM
Just when I thought u ran out of different versions u go and throw a cuckoo curveball !
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:11:08 PM
I'm always on the lookout. Brian D knew this one!
Mark 12:12:28 PM
Shazam struggled for awhile to find / I’m #69 so it’s kinda obscure
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:13:24 PM
This is a goody, not out until next Friday
Brian D 12:15:09 PM
I did not know Blodwyn did that too. Micks old band yes
Brian D 12:15:31 PM
Just recognized melody WHAM!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:15:47 PM
Yes, it has been recently re-mastered
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:16:10 PM
Their first or second album, not sure
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:16:40 PM
You're the real deal, Brian
Brian D 12:17:22 PM
Tasteful gtr & organ interplay
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:17:28 PM
In all honesty, I didn't know this song, I liked this version immediately
Christine Duffy 12:17:53 PM
Hey DJ Jerry 👋 So happy another Serenade To A Cuckoo is underway!
Christine Duffy 12:18:26 PM
Blodwyn Pig: that was a surprise
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:18:34 PM
Thankks Christine
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:19:52 PM
Blodwyn Pig, co-founder of Jethro Tull broke away and formed that group
Christine Duffy 12:20:38 PM
Very interesting.
Brian D 12:31:26 PM
Percussion on last track (Kuroda) reminded me of Future Man from Flecktones
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:33:06 PM
I have to check this Future Man out!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:34:04 PM
This flutist is Andrea Brachfield, she's very good
Christine Duffy 12:35:11 PM
FutureMan is amazing. I saw him and Bela and the band at the Keswick Theater a few years back. 2014, maybe.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:36:18 PM
Can you tell me more about this FutureMan?
Brian D 12:37:16 PM
He stands up and plays a keytar like device that has percussion trigger sounds among other things he does
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:38:04 PM
I see. What is their best album?
Brian D 12:38:50 PM
He is a Wooten brother. Victor plays the bass in Flecktones.
Brian D 12:39:10 PM
Victor Wooten that is
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:40:12 PM
Does anyone know the original of this song?
Brian D 12:40:14 PM
I forget about the album by album.... hmmm. I really like that Sinister Minister track.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:40:45 PM
I'll find it
Brian D 12:41:08 PM
Yes! But I did not recognize melody.... was it Rascals?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:41:37 PM
Yessir/1
the_dude 12:41:53 PM
Loving this organ! Howdy y'all
Christine Duffy 12:42:12 PM
Future Man is a.k.a. Roy Wilfred Wooten. He's an American musician, and has played with Bela Fleck.
Christine Duffy 12:42:16 PM
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Man
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:42:26 PM
Hey Dude!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:42:38 PM
Thank you, Christine!
the_dude 12:42:47 PM
Wooten slaps! (Literally too)
the_dude 12:42:55 PM
Hey Jerry!
Mark 12:43:10 PM
@christine do they come around the keswick on a regular basis / that’s my go to venue
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:43:12 PM
Dude, I love it when a person appreciates the jazz organ. A rare breed!
Brian D 12:43:38 PM
Howard Levy and Jeff Coffin have played w Flecktones too on the wind instr
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:44:02 PM
Who knows this tune?
the_dude 12:44:26 PM
Ha, why thank ya Jerry, I'm sure it's more common in this chat than elsewhere
Christine Duffy 12:44:51 PM
@Mark, The Keswick is (used to be) my go-to theater, too. Hopefully post-COVID too.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:44:56 PM
Yes, but not common enough. Jazz organ once ruled, then disappeared.
Mark 12:45:03 PM
Haha I’ll make u an offer u can’t refuse Jerry
Brian D 12:45:07 PM
I saw them 1996 @ Keswick. Stuffed hippo animal slingshot giveaways ! Flight of the Cosmic Hippos
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:45:53 PM
And the winner is...Mark!
Christine Duffy 12:46:07 PM
😄
Brian D 12:46:47 PM
Saw some great shows in Trenton area 20 25 yrs ago. Bob Smith Organ Trio. Bootsy Barnes and Ritchie Cole and Bo Parker guested at times
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:46:52 PM
This is a CD of Italian themed songs, or songs written by Italians. It's unreal!
Mark 12:47:08 PM
Yes Christine I wish I could post a picture of their coming attractions from last year / I had about 5 shows lined up there late March into May
Mark 12:48:21 PM
Haha i could quote lines from GF 1&2 all day long :$
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:48:49 PM
Brian D, that is Will Constantine Jr's favorite subject. I cannot tell you how many times he told me about shows he witnessed in Trenton, including this Bob Smith guy. He speaks about these shows, and ones with Richie Cole, so lovingly!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:49:42 PM
Dude, more organ for you!
Christine Duffy 12:50:00 PM
I miss Will Constantine Jr.
Mark 12:50:58 PM
Ditto ditto ditto :(
the_dude 12:51:44 PM
Haha thanks, I am locked in. Trenton jazz shoes sound like so much fun
the_dude 12:52:00 PM
Anyone ever been to a place in fishtown called drummers?
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:52:26 PM
Please do tell!
Mark 12:52:29 PM
No do tell about drummers
Brian D 12:53:03 PM
How is Will? I l know him from prb as well as the music scene (John & Peter's back in day)
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:54:03 PM
Will is good. He doesn't have the computer equipment we need to do these shows during covid. He is not into technology or spending for technology.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:54:47 PM
He still works his ass off as a Chef at Whole foods on Route 1
Brian D 12:55:18 PM
Give him best. Saw him last at his workplace 3 yrs ago when I was teaching gtr in Princeton area
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:55:32 PM
He misses doing his show but doesn't complain. He will return when we are allowed back on Princeton campus
Brian D 12:55:57 PM
That is the workplace! I had kick azz tacos thanks to him
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:56:38 PM
He has been a chef his whole life. He is passionate about cooking, but more passionate about jazz.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:56:59 PM
And playing a million different instruments.
Mark 12:57:06 PM
Yes let will know we all miss BB&B / I used to say to him I should get CE credits for listening to some of his complex shows !
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:57:54 PM
I will. Dude, what about this venue you mentioned?
Brian D 12:57:56 PM
He used to do a real lively version of Down San Diego Way by Arthur Bythe but rearranged retitled.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 12:58:25 PM
BTW this is Vic Juris who often played with Richie Cole
the_dude 12:59:25 PM
Oo, love to. So percussion focused jazz spot. Very much not online so hard to find info, like it doesnt have a website and the address was hard to confirm from random Facebook pages, but found out about it from a sangeet concert announcement, a classical Indian musician was playing there and it was a magical show. Great great space, I forget her name but the owner is a jazz drummer and lives there too so likes to keep it low key but because of that it's such a comfy space with great acoustics
the_dude 12:59:38 PM
Just popped in my head when thinking about great jazz venues.
the_dude 1:00:38 PM
Highly recommend seeing any show you can there..
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:01:59 PM
Thank you, dude
Christine Duffy 1:02:02 PM
Thanks, Dude. I'll add Drummers to my "Post-vaccine live music tour"
the_dude 1:02:53 PM
Happy to share it with all of you, I have wprb to thank for finding it!
Bud Burroughs 1:04:35 PM
Just tuning in and looks like I missed some good stuff, including more Blodwyn Pig!
Mark 1:09:19 PM
@dude / just checked drummers FB page : looks like they moved from Norris St Fishtown to West Chester /they had big moving sale right before world shut down last March
the_dude 1:09:49 PM
Nooooo
the_dude 1:10:29 PM
So coincidentally not covid huh.. shucks, I bet it's still great in West Chester, but it was a funky spot there
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:10:35 PM
Hi bud, how are you?
Sangeet Wprb 1:11:25 PM
😿 Just aired David Darling on Wednesday, and hadn't known he passed away on January 8th.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:12:15 PM
Hi Sangeet, how are you? So pleased to hear from you.
Bud Burroughs 1:12:22 PM
Doing good, especially now that my meeting is over and the radio is back on!
Mark 1:12:33 PM
The FB Norris st pictures look pretty amazing / I would think the sound more suited for urban than w Chester ?!
Sangeet Wprb 1:12:46 PM
I'm well, Jerry. Enjoying your show as always.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:13:41 PM
Sangeet, I didn't know all that much about David Darling, and got a chance to explore him more this week. I was very very surprised by his post ECM output
Bud Burroughs 1:14:05 PM
Do you know local saxman Ken Ulansey? He just posted some excellent tracks on YouTube that he recorded with David Darling 30 years ago.
Sangeet Wprb 1:15:42 PM
I also was not aware of his post-ECM work. Saw a few of David Darling's CDs in PREX' NewAge section.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:16:46 PM
I do know him, Bud. A tremendous player. His band played at my daughter's Bat Mitzvah!
Bud Burroughs 1:17:39 PM
Nice, his band has such fantastic players in it!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:18:24 PM
Sangeet, David Darling augmented field recordings. Lots of different deep musical approaches.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:18:46 PM
Yes, Bud, reall Philadelphia all-stars!
Bud Burroughs 1:21:13 PM
Here are the Ulansey/Darling tracks - well worth a listen:
the_dude 1:21:15 PM
Yeah mark, I checked out the pics too, very intimate space, the pics do it justice. Definitely agreed it fits the urban spot more but c'est la vie. I gotta find out the owners name ..

the_dude 1:22:26 PM
Oh it's like a loft/barn out there, looks cool too. And adding that to the playlist bud!
Mark 1:23:14 PM
That’s My favorite quote from Will & add in: the universal language of mankind ! :) :)
Brian D 1:24:23 PM
Enrico Calamari Soul Sauce!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:24:48 PM
Haha
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:25:19 PM
Hes the best!
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:25:42 PM
... and Sangeet!
Brian D 1:27:33 PM
I love that sound Cal Tjader got. That is solid groove on Soul Sauce
the_dude 1:29:22 PM
Which dj always closes their show with that quote...
the_dude 1:30:14 PM
I can hear his voice..
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:30:26 PM
Will Constantine Jr. Was always Thursdays at 11 am.
the_dude 1:31:12 PM
That's right, and now the chat makes more sense
Mark 1:34:11 PM
And Will last hour of music of his show was salsa type as he went under an incognito:) he did some memorable shows in the first 3 months of last year
the_dude 1:35:50 PM
Haha yeah! What was it, mambo tango y mas?
Mark 1:35:56 PM
And I used to love how mr jerry Gordon & him would team up during the fund drive week/ I really do miss how the station conducted its fund drive
the_dude 1:36:20 PM
Haha yeah, only station where I miss the pledge drive
Mark 1:36:48 PM
@ dude yes I think that’s how he labeled it / jerry: what was his alias !
Brian D 1:37:18 PM
Montuno mambo y mas... tango might've been in there too
Mark 1:37:54 PM
YES all other drives r obnoxious / PRBs was sooo great w dj’s teamed up !
Brian D 1:38:20 PM
That was my earlier Enrico Calamari post's meaning
Mark 1:38:45 PM
Haha yes now I get it !
Brian D 1:39:54 PM
But I think it was just the M words to keep the alliteration like Blues Bop And Beyond
Mark 1:45:16 PM
Haha i remember him saying he was getting some feedback that some thought he was going too beyond rather blues& bop/ actually remember a fair amount of Zappa on show last year
Brian D 1:45:55 PM
Eugene Wright. Couldn't remember Brubeck alum that passed. Had to look it up
Bud Burroughs 1:46:54 PM
That was an interesting outtake - very different from the released version
Brian D 1:48:22 PM
Yeah I was down in FLA on vacay just before the world closed and I remember hearing Will and Jerry do some great live shows on prb as I drank coffee on back porch of our rental right on the Intracoastal Waterway looking out at the water..... seems like long ago
Christine Duffy 1:49:11 PM
@Bud, I agree. Almost like hearing the song from a very similar but alternate universe.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:49:48 PM
I agree, very different version, tempo
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 1:51:36 PM
Will is one of the nicest people I know. Thank you for mentioning the fundraisers. We look forward to it every hear. We don't get to hang out like we would like to.
Anthony B. Creamer III 2:04:10 PM
Black Pearl .
Bud Burroughs 2:06:21 PM
Ronnie Spector wrote a remarkably gracious tribute to Phil. It's pretty amazing considering how badly he treated her.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:07:20 PM
Hey Anthony. Yes, Black Pearl, not until next week. That and the Wake World
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:07:48 PM
Bud, where was that?
Mark 2:08:10 PM
Perfectly worded intro ... complicated is such an understatement
Bud Burroughs 2:09:26 PM
She put it on Instagram. I'll try to find a link. She acknowledged both his genius and his evil.
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:10:07 PM
Bud, perhaps I can google it

My favorite quote from it: "he was a brilliant producer, but a lousy husband."
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:12:50 PM
Thank you, Bud!
Charlie Neibel 2:25:23 PM
Great show
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:25:42 PM
Thank you, Charlie, appreciated!
Brian D 2:31:24 PM
Goodfellas single cam long walk shot
Mark 2:34:18 PM
Yes i think that’s everyone’s association/ brilliant music & film shot
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:43:44 PM
My memory is defective. I don't even remember it in Goodfellas
Brian D 2:48:37 PM
Continuous shot for sevaral minutes where Henry & Karen go to a sold out show @ the club, see the line outside, sneak through the kitchen, right onto floorin front of stage & a table & chairs instantly appear for then
Brian D 2:49:25 PM
1 hand held camera no cuts
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:49:47 PM
I remember the scene, will have to look out for it
Serenade to a Cuckoo w/Jerry Gordon (host) 2:51:51 PM
Thank you, Brian
Christine Duffy 2:55:46 PM
Thank you, DJ Jerry! Another tremendous show.
Mark 2:56:02 PM
