U followed a very good PRB dj today : the robot 🤖:)

The robot kicks ass! It is a genetic hybrid of many WPRB DJs.

He/she played Robyn Hitchcock version of visions of johanna right before u / prob my favorite cover of all time !

Sometimes I check out the Spinitron website for a feed of what the other member stations are broadcasting. Most stations are on automation, and most of their selections are fairly mainstream.

I think i heard that most spin stations were still automated that is why I appreciate PRBb sooo much / all these dj’s playing non mainstream great music safely - just fantastic !

Thanks, Dude. I discovered Covet fairly recently. Unlike most math rock groups that focus more on technical chops, Covet still strives for expressive melodies.

Very nice. Sounds like Derek and Warren trading off on slide gtrs here. Each has a diff vocab to their approach. Jimny Herring might be on here too for a 3 gtr army. Sounds like a diff voice for this non slide solo that is going on

Warren Haynes was not given credit for guitar on this track, though.

Indeed. But I am always reminded, when seeing how accomplished Derek Trucks was at such a young age, how little talent I have.

Whether it's the Allmanesque approach or Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, Iron Maiden, Strokes etc. They all did the harmony on gtr a little diff and it sounds pleasing to these ears

Yes evaD , Derek has that gift. Right from head to fingers . Great touch. Great ear as is needed so much for slide gtr and non fretted instruments or 'bone etc

My students turned me on to some of the zillion sub genres of Metal when i taught gtr. Yes the harmony id

Used to donate regularly and sell plasma, so those collection points are tired. My mom is an RN and has donated literal buckets...she has a coffee cup recognizing one "5 gallon club" milestone.

Chick Corea has such an enormous catalog of music. But I'm not sure how I feel about his whole Scientology thing.

One of my missions on The New Abnormal is to introduce people to the field of Rock Progressivo Italiano. It's a rich music, but never caught on in the west. Probably our aversion to foreign language songs here has a lot to do with it.

And Banco del Mutuo Soccorso is one of the giants of RPI.

A few RPI groups tried releasing English language versions of their LPs, but they ended up sounding weird.

I'm so glad I actually got to see Banco live when they played NEARFest

Yes, Brian. The Italians did more than just ape British prog. Their style was largely an outgrowth of their own musical genres.

Dramatic, yes. And I respect that they insisted on singing in Italian when most other European countries were still singing in English to appeal to the UK/USA markets.

Good point. And like you said, it's probably the main reason those bands never caught on in the US.

Yes i think the flow of the Italiano works for the overall mood/ feeling. I could see how that would be lost in translation
