Threads Cantaloupe Music 2005
written by Princeton’s own Paul Lansky, who describes it as a half-hour long “cantata” for percussion quartet in ten short movements. There are three “threads” that are interwoven in the piece: Arias and Preludes that focus on the metallic pitched sounds of vibraphones, glockenspiel and pipes; Choruses in which drumming predominates; and Recitatives made largely from Cage-like noise instruments, bottles, flower pots, crotales, etc.

🤖 here!
Mark 5:02:04 PM
Present as well though I’m not a 🤖 :)
Lizbot (host) 5:02:29 PM
Hey Mark! How has your snowy day been?
Brian D 5:03:09 PM
O this is wonderful.
Mark 5:03:50 PM
I found an interesting app this week: type in a global city & it pulls up a radio station from there but guess what geography I keep coming back to ?! :)
Lizbot (host) 5:03:53 PM
Hey Brian- Yeah, the station got in one of those Rough Guides collections and RG to Avant Japan is to my taste!
Lizbot (host) 5:04:52 PM
@Mark- I think I have that app- Mine is called Radio Garden or something like that
Brian D 5:05:31 PM
YES! Saw this collection pop up recently too and it is on my radar
Mark 5:06:07 PM
Yes !! Same one just discovered it / keep coming back to Princeton & u can guess the station that shows up :)
Lizbot (host) 5:06:47 PM
There’s another app I have too called Radiooooooo (random number of o’s) where you select a country and a genre of music and it generates something
Brian D 5:07:11 PM
Sinking Ships 1980 – The Cinema Clock and Other Stories…. . That just popped up on the radar too. Looks interesting
Mark 5:07:50 PM
Wow 2 songs in & double plus already out of this world 🌎 !
Lizbot (host) 5:08:28 PM
@Mark- Nice! Yeah, the 1st thing I did when I got that app was check for PRB!
Brian D 5:08:51 PM
Radio apps are fun! What a world. Reminds me of my dad's old 70s era multi band radio with the diff countries listed on it. But better sound! I have checked out Cuba, some of the former Soviet -stan countries in
Lizbot (host) 5:08:55 PM
@Brian - that sounds good! I have to check it out!
Lizbot (host) 5:10:12 PM
@Brian D- I haven’t used that app in a while and I should revisit it, but when I first downloaded it, I spent a good deal of time on former Soviet countries
Mark 5:10:24 PM
Haha I went to Havana 1st / dj Krista mentioned Cambodia then I traveled all the way to Princeton :)
Brian D 5:11:51 PM
Oh Cambodia, Burma, Bali/Singapore/etc would be fun
Lizbot (host) 5:13:01 PM
Yes! Cambodia! Good 60s stuff
Lizbot (host) 5:13:26 PM
@Mark- Nice! Yeah, I think Dylan mentioned that app recently
Mark 5:14:23 PM
I mentioned on another chat my new game is to pair a native radio station w different food I’ve got take out from / so i actually did get Ethiopian from w philly this week :) & pulled up Addis abba
Lizbot (host) 5:15:24 PM
@Mark- Which Ethiopian? My go-to is Abyssinia
Mark 5:15:30 PM
But I don’t even have to leave prb/ this is fantastic
Lizbot (host) 5:15:57 PM
@Mark- Thanks! Yeah, I visit lots of African countries today
Brian D 5:16:07 PM
Brownies are done. House of chocolate on chocolate smell
Lizbot (host) 5:16:14 PM
Sudanese take-out?
Lizbot (host) 5:16:27 PM
@Brian- YUMMMM
Lizbot (host) 5:16:37 PM
Making pot pie tonight.
Mark 5:17:02 PM
Haha I did two : listener jinbeaux suggested Jaffa & I hadn’t been to Abyssinia in ages so I got from both !
Mark 5:19:01 PM
Blind taste test : I liked Abyssinia slightly better / hadn’t had injera in forever
Brian D 5:19:11 PM
Salmon w/honey Aleppo pepper sauce on at the end to glaze. Salt boil taters
Brian D 5:19:46 PM
Wau Wau Collectif & Larry Lewis are my 2 faves of this past week on PRB
Lizbot (host) 5:20:13 PM
Injera is soooo filling and good!
Mark 5:20:16 PM
Stop w ur dinner recipes :) / I don’t know how to cook (yet) !
Lizbot (host) 5:20:24 PM
Abyssinia takes a while but it worth it
Mark 5:21:20 PM
Haha yes abyssinia has some language barriers but it is really good !
Brian D 5:21:26 PM
Put food on or in stove. Apply heat and flavors to it. Pretty much makes itself
Lizbot (host) 5:21:34 PM
@Brian- Sounds gooood
Lizbot (host) 5:21:41 PM
Other ppl have recommended Kaffa Crossing, but I haven’t tried it yet.
Brian D 5:22:13 PM
This is hypnotic. Gamelan-ish
Mark 5:22:26 PM
Haha ur recipes I could never recreate
Lizbot (host) 5:23:11 PM
You know which West Philly Ethiopian place is really good and lesser known? Meskerem on 45th, right across from Abyssinia. First tried it for a large birthday party group
Lizbot (host) 5:23:50 PM
@Brian D- Funny you should mention- My husband has been on a gamelan listening fest recently.
Mark 5:24:03 PM
I misspelled kaffa/ that was my other & I noticed meskerrm on 45 th too
Lizbot (host) 5:24:55 PM
@Brian D- That last track, the So Percussion one, was composed by Princeton professor Paul Lansky, who made WPRB Station ID “Lansky Letters” I used to play recently back in the olden days of physical studio
Lizbot (host) 5:25:30 PM
Breakbeat here. Reminds me of late 90s Amp show on mtv
Mark 5:25:43 PM
I’m gonna try the real good Indonesian in s philly this weekend & jakarta Radio
Lizbot (host) 5:26:19 PM
@Mark- Nice! I do that too- listen to music from the country whose cuisine I’m eating
Mark 5:26:27 PM
U remember when mtv played music ?! :)
George Korein 5:27:32 PM
This song is by a Philly guy.
George Korein 5:28:33 PM
I met him through Yanni back in 2002. I liked his guitar playing though I don't think he plays guitar on this record
Lizbot (host) 5:28:58 PM
@Mark- Yeah...decades ago!
Mark 5:29:40 PM
I’ve got a good philly author for u lizbot: liz moore if u haven’t read / just starting long bright river
Lizbot (host) 5:29:52 PM
I often forget it exists. Does it still exist??! I used to put on that Amp show to watch that crazy Ronnie Size Paper Bag backwards video 😂
Lizbot (host) 5:30:15 PM
@Mark- Gotta check her out. What does she write?
Lizbot (host) 5:30:45 PM
@Brian D- Re; that So Percussion gamelan-sounding piece- it was pitched sounds of vibraphones, glockenspiel and pipes
George Korein 5:31:16 PM
ah i just looked it up and there's guitar elsewhere on the record, and Aino Soderheim appears on sax
Lizbot (host) 5:31:31 PM
@Mark- We’ll have to add Liz Moore to The Doubleplusgood Book Club! 📚 📻
Mark 5:32:03 PM
Fiction it came highly recommended to me / set in philly & mt airey areas you’ll recognize:)
Lizbot (host) 5:32:04 PM
@George- on Which song? I love Aino!
Lizbot (host) 5:32:40 PM
Also @George- Please preheat the oven to 350
Mark 5:33:04 PM
Book club / u mean double + pop culture guide club !!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:21 PM
@Mark- Ooooh, intrigue in Mt Airy! (I have no idea if there’s intrigue involved, but I’m interested)
Lizbot (host) 5:34:21 PM
@Mark- Speaking of NW Philly intrigue, did you hear there’s a show partially shot around Forbidden Drive/Wissahickon called Mare of Easttown starring Kate Winslet coming to HBO soon?
Mark 5:34:35 PM
Yes I hope to start & finish by next thurs - assume u don’t side track us w another recommendation tonite
Lizbot (host) 5:34:58 PM
@Mark- Yeah- Maybe best to fuse the movie and Book club
Mark 5:36:14 PM
Haha I think I met a couple at south jazz in 2019 while they were filming here / they were doing scenes at divine lorraine building on broad
Mark 5:37:18 PM
Love hiking & biking on forbidden dr i just started this year
Brian D 5:38:19 PM
Heroes by Roni Size and then by the Kruder and Dorfmeister meatgrinder and then further edited by me in Audacity is my alarm ring tone
Brian D 5:39:18 PM
K&D finally released something 20 yrs later a few months ago back in the fall of 2020 and it is so good! I only found out about them in 2017 or so
Teresa Peacock 5:40:10 PM
Does the title of the Gájanas track have anything to do with diamonds? Those Ugric languages don't have a lot of affinities with other European or Scandinavian-based languages but the 'diamánta' part suggests something to do with diamonds...
Teresa Peacock 5:41:24 PM
You studied Linguistics, didn't you, LizBot?
Mark 5:42:26 PM
Just looked up mare of east wick / it is the one i was thinking of / shot predominantly in coatesvill & downingtown ;)
Lizbot (host) 5:42:37 PM
@Teresa- Yes! And yes, it does. It means “Floods of Diamonds“!
Lizbot (host) 5:43:40 PM
@Mark- Yes, I was going to add that she complained about mastering what she called a DELCO accent, but that’s not DELCO! And there was a scene in Wissahickon. They shot it last spring I believe
Mark 5:44:17 PM
Fantastic world show so far / b locked on for next 2+ no need for world radio station app tonite
Lizbot (host) 5:44:34 PM
@Brian D- ambitious ringtone! I’d like to hear the new Kruder and Dorfmeister
Lizbot (host) 5:45:00 PM
@Teresa- How’s Mass right now?? Snowing on and off here!
Teresa Peacock 5:45:40 PM
I just googled it too! Neat! I found the definition through this FB group 'Music Sans Frontieres 3CR': https://www.facebook.com/pg/musicsansfrontieres3crmelbourne/posts/
Lizbot (host) 5:46:11 PM
I saw Mark Feldman at John Zorn’s old space with his wife, Sylvie Courvoisier, whose album Y2K/Ocre I love!
Teresa Peacock 5:47:30 PM
Yeah, the snow has crapped out for now but it's supposed to start up again around 9 p.m. according to accuweather. Accuweather is much more invested in this being a bigger snow-event, meanwhile weather.com and weather underground remain unconvinced.
Lizbot (host) 5:48:37 PM
@Mark- I almost lived in a big decrepit building across the street from the then empty Divine Lorraine circa 2001. It was cheap rent and big space but violated maaaaany safety codes and was kinda crazy. My friend lived in the bldg and hundreds of bats used to swarm out of the Divine Lorraine roof at dusk!
Brian D 5:49:51 PM
It is a fun 10-15 seconds. I timed out the little zigs and zags nicely for it to stay in time. I made my wife an edit of Herbie Hancock/Headhunters beer bottle Watermelon Man for her phone ring tone. And some other fun ones for her alarms & notifications. I have a cool set of Hanna Barbera music and they throw on a bunch of snippets that are great for ringtones/alarms (like Jetsons spaceship sounds, Fred F yabba dabba of course, and just some great BLAM!, BWANG!, POP! sound fx)
Lizbot (host) 5:51:22 PM
@Brian D- You should make them available to the public and charge for em! You know which one cracks me up, but I don’t think Hanna barbera made it...maybe...is the ORIGINAL Hulk cartoon song! “The ever-lovin’ Hulk”!
Brian D 5:52:21 PM
I was mentioning in chat a month or so ago (Kat maybe) about David Lynch ringtones that were available 20 yrs ago or so for a short time. One of them was him yelling "GREAT JUMPIN GEORGE!" over and over
Lizbot (host) 5:52:27 PM
Doc Bruce Banner, pelted by gamma-rays, turned into the Hulk- Oh, how un-glamorays!
Lizbot (host) 5:53:38 PM
@Brian D- Oh, god. I don’t think I could handle that as a ringtone
Lizbot (host) 5:53:47 PM
The call is coming from inside the phone
Lizbot (host) 5:54:27 PM
The Hulk song’s charm is in the vocals/lyrics, so prob not the best ringtone
Lizbot (host) 5:55:06 PM
My ringtone has been for many years now the training sequence music in Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out
Brian D 5:55:46 PM
Mine is opening to Pink Floyd's Echoes. The sonar piano note "ping"
Lizbot (host) 5:56:05 PM
Nice! I could see that working well
Teresa Peacock 5:56:58 PM
Lucrecia Dalt followed by La Chica = brilliant pairing!
Brian D 5:57:12 PM
And for notifications I made a sculpted mash up of Jimmy Page's slide gtr descending chorus riff and theremin howls from Whole Lotta Love. But it is a bit too long. And I never have my notifications ring tone on. It would distract
Lizbot (host) 5:57:34 PM
I think I don’t get tired of the chiptune original NES soundtrack stuff because I a) have positive 3rd-5th grade associations with it and b) heard those songs 100,000 times when playing those games, so they are deeply ingrained and don’t grate on me
Lizbot (host) 5:58:03 PM
@Teresa- Thanks! Yeah, really digging both this short album and Lucrecia’s outtakes- even her outtakes are great!
Brian D 5:58:12 PM
I gave my wife a Hanna Barbera BWANG! for her notifications. It's great She loves that.
Brian D 5:58:31 PM
A thud on a tympani it sounds like
Lizbot (host) 5:58:47 PM
BWANG is good! I don’t leave notifications on either
Brian D 6:01:35 PM
Heatloaf is fave of last couple weeks. Who was it... Capt Ahab maybe said to buy off Bandcamp on Fridays because all proceeds go to artists rather than them taking a cut.
Lizbot (host) 6:02:07 PM
Yeah, and it’s Pax’s band
Brian D 6:02:27 PM
Yeah I heard about that so cool!
Lizbot (host) 6:02:33 PM
Bandcamp Fridays is only on the 1st Friday of the month
Brian D 6:02:50 PM
OK cool good to remember that
Mark 6:03:22 PM
I’ve mentioned before this music is so great even wo the pax PRB ties!
Lizbot (host) 6:04:16 PM
@Mark & Brian D- Yes! Such a good album
Rob from Maryland 6:04:22 PM
Good evening all. The La Chica song was great!

Christine Duffy 6:06:53 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:07:10 PM

Mark 6:08:51 PM
Tina is great / @christine don’t start the dinner recipe/ it makes me so envious :)
Lizbot (host) 6:09:29 PM
...the late 90s of mostly home-recorded 4-track stuff from bands in this Trenton scene. The comps were called Droppings. I gotta ask Wilbo if he remembers this band, because I don’t know much about them
Christine Duffy 6:09:57 PM
@Mark, I am always envious and impressed at the high bar set re: dinner in the chat. Don't worry, I'm just having leftovers.
Rob from Maryland 6:10:10 PM
Hi Lizbot!

Christine Duffy 6:11:35 PM
I'll chime in to say I miss Wilbo, too.
Rob from Maryland 6:11:43 PM
Cool. Back when I was into British and Scandinavian folk almost to the exclusion of everything else.
Christine Duffy 6:12:38 PM
@Liz Bot, WW pot pie sounds delicious!
Teresa Peacock 6:13:10 PM
Does this singer remind anyone else of Jonathan Richman?
Mark 6:13:41 PM
Haha I gotta go now / got a book review to complete by next thurs/ I think they mention weavers in it !
Lizbot (host) 6:14:11 PM
@Christine- I miss Wilbo of The Physical Studio! But good news is, Mike Lupica was just in touch with him today and he’s fine! When asked if he had a message or question for the rest of the station, he said “What’s the Frequency, Kenneth?” Which led to me reading Dan Rather’s wiki page
Lizbot (host) 6:14:50 PM
@Teresa- Huh, now that you mention it, a little. I listen to both a lot and never thought of that before. Sounds like early Modern Lovers Jojo
Lizbot (host) 6:14:57 PM
Like Pablo Picasso jojo
Brian D 6:15:20 PM
Oh yes brave brave Sir Robyn
Mark 6:15:34 PM
@therse now that u mention it yes to j r / I met him once when he played my friends bar awhile back / very strange guy

@Mark- Nice! ❤️ Weaver’s Way! Where is the review gonna be?
Brian D 6:16:11 PM

Victorian Squid is one of my fav Robyn Hitchcock songs!
Lizbot (host) 6:16:56 PM
@Mark- I’ll get cracking on that!...eventually
Lizbot (host) 6:17:42 PM
I mulled over maybe buying a Robyn Hitchcock painting but decided against it. It was a little too pricey for me! I kinda like his art though

Lizbot (host) 6:27:27 PM
I hope Ardmore MH survives!
Christine Duffy 6:28:23 PM
I hope so, too. The Philly Prog Cabal needs to organize and make sure it does!
Lizbot (host) 6:29:23 PM
@Christine! Yes! Long Live the Philly Prog Cabal!

Lizbot (host) 6:30:09 PM
Hello Anne! Thanks!
Lizbot (host) 6:30:36 PM
@Anne- I hope you had a good snowy day!
Anne Lopez 6:31:44 PM
Yes, it was not too bad! Did my wfh and some chores. In Baltimore it was really not too bad, thankfully.
Lizbot (host) 6:32:32 PM
Nice!
Mark 6:37:02 PM
And I just read about whisper of the heart / another add to my list :)
Lizbot (host) 6:40:53 PM
@Mark- That’s one of my favorite Studio Ghibli films! It’s very earnest and hopeful. The director was Hayao Miyazaki’s protégé and was slated to become creative director of Ghibli, but he died a few years later 😭
Lizbot (host) 6:49:51 PM
Good 🍗 pot 🥧! Dinner done, minimal food got on my phone screen. A+
Brian D 6:54:10 PM
For those that can't see emojis....hmmm? This is dreamy mesmerizing! My wife & I were just saying we love when you get all synthy in the playlists
Brian D 6:54:54 PM
The Space Lady has that split second yodel lilt
Lizbot (host) 6:55:30 PM
@Brian D! Haha, yeah I didn’t have THAT for dinner. My local co-op doesn’t sell everything! Chicken pot pie!
Lizbot (host) 6:56:04 PM
The Space Lady had a show at PhilaMOCA that I REALLY wish I hadn’t missed! Loveeeeeed PhilaMOCA
Lizbot (host) 6:57:04 PM
Ah, now this is a band from Lisbon that features old friend Helena Espvall, who used to live in Philly for many years and was in the band Espers
Teresa Peacock 6:57:07 PM
I love The Space Lady's cover of this song! Also -- it reminds me of a really great German language tv series Rob and I watched about 2 years ago -- 'Deutschland 83' -- that had the Schilling song accompanying the opening credits.
Teresa Peacock 6:59:33 PM
Wonderful to hear new projects from the former Espers personnel! Again -- beautiful juxtaposition of Beautify Junkyards following a Space Lady track!
Lizbot (host) 6:59:47 PM
@Teresa- Yeah, I think this is my fav cover by her! I have to check out that show! If not for the current state of the world, we were originally going to be going to Germany in August of 2020 to visit my cousins on my mom’s side, and stay with them in a cabin near Singen. I like getting German tv/movie recommendations from them. I still hope I can do that trip at some point. Been fighting the airline to let me extend my cancelled flight credit!

Christine Duffy 7:00:16 PM
Let's all hope that The Space Lady will visit Philly in 2022 (or late 2021). PhilaMOCA is an interesting venue, but I've never seen live music there. It was a really cool film from Japan.
Lizbot (host) 7:01:02 PM
@Teresa- Yes! I love this Beautify Junkyards album. Helena sent me a copy! So good
Lizbot (host) 7:03:34 PM
@Christine- I’ve seen a lot of great live shows there and it has such a nice vibe, perfect size, not too big and perfect shape- you can always see the stage! If t gets too crowded downstairS, like at the Chromolodeon reunion show, I just head for the balcony. Saw a good number of movies there too- including the Hayao Miyazaki documentary, “The Neverending Man”- so good! New recommendation for ++Good Movie Club!!
Teresa Peacock 7:04:59 PM
Sooooo good!!! Truly! I've got a ton of German language tv show recommendations for you, if'n you'd like. I haven't been to Germany since 1986/87. But I was a German lit major in college and I like to try to keep up my language skills here and there. So Rob and I watch a ton of Italian language and German language tv shows, mostly police procedurals...
Lizbot (host) 7:06:06 PM
@Teresa- I watch Spanish language movies and shows for the same reason- trying to stay sharp. I picked up a little Italian. I woefully never learned German except so curses from my cousins when we were teens!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 7:07:45 PM
@Teresa - I am assuming you would have seen "Tat Ort"?
Lizbot (host) 7:10:43 PM
👋 Dave
Ian Smith 7:10:55 PM
Magnetic Fields always hit like a breath of fresh air to me. Like your shows! Which are hard for me to catch on my distant time zone schedule, but a fabulous time and favorite!
Teresa Peacock 7:11:02 PM
Oh yes! I watched it regularly while I was living in Hamburg (1986/87) and now, we're watching 'Tatort: Borowski' which takes place in Kiel (due North of Hamburg). We also watched most of 'Tatort: Lindholm' which takes place in Hannover (I think?) but the plots became too ridiculous.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 7:11:13 PM
👋🏽 Lizbot
Lizbot (host) 7:12:04 PM
@Teresa- I’d like to know some of the other German shows you watch! And Italian ones. I watched that HBO Italian show about the two friends last year. I mostly watch Italian movies and don’t know that many Italian shows
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 7:12:24 PM
Those Tatort programs are refreshingly different from the USA cop shows.v
Lizbot (host) 7:13:30 PM
@Ian- Thanks and Hello! What time zone are you in, out of curiosity? The Magnetic Fields tour for this Distortion album I saw in NYC shortly after my daughter was born- a rare night out for me back then!
Bo 7:13:58 PM
@Lizbot, you know I'm wearing a Cramps T-shirt today?!
Lizbot (host) 7:14:20 PM
Hi Bo! Ha!
Ian Smith 7:14:28 PM
Alaska. not so far away, but with kids and work I can't stay glued to the radio like I'd like to
Lizbot (host) 7:14:57 PM
@Teresa- “My Brilliant Friend” is the HBO show I’m thinking of. Of course there was also The Young Pope
Teresa Peacock 7:16:06 PM
I agree. Although I consider the Tatort franchise to be roughly the German equivalent of the 'Law and Order' franchise in its duration and its concentration on various detective teams. In Germany, there is also an East German variant called 'Polizeiruf 110'. Now it takes place in places that were formerly part of the DDR.
Lizbot (host) 7:17:07 PM
@Ian- Oh, I get it! My daughter is reading a homework assignment out loud to me as I listen and type right now!
Teresa Peacock 7:17:26 PM
My mother LOVES the Elena Ferrante books that 'My Brilliant Friend' portrays. She loved the show as well.
Lizbot (host) 7:18:09 PM
@Teresa- I’m sure my cousin Mathias know Kiel. He and his wife are in Hamburg. The rest of my fam is much farther south, near Stuttgart
Lizbot (host) 7:19:10 PM
@Teresa- I never finished the show. I did something I never usually do and watched it a bit out of order. Just would stumble upon episodes as they aired
Lizbot (host) 7:21:28 PM
@Ian- I’m sure you know how memorable the few nights out you get when you have a baby! That was that Magnetic Fields “Distortion” show for me. I’d seen them many times before and I’ve seen them many times since, but that one was special!
Lizbot (host) 7:21:54 PM
@Teresa- Maybe I should check out the Elena Ferrante books
Teresa Peacock 7:22:03 PM
I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen it. I hear it's really terrific. We spent many months watching 'Ispectore Montalbano' based on the mystery books by Andrea Camilleri -- most highly recommended! You can find the series on the tv channel mhz and on amazon prime. We just finished watching another series on amazon prime called 'Rocco Schiavone: Ice Cold Murders'. Despite the cringy title,
Teresa Peacock 7:22:18 PM
it was really good!
Lizbot (host) 7:22:54 PM
@Teresa- I’m glad it’s on Prime! I have to add it to my list!
Teresa Peacock 7:23:11 PM
*'Ispettore (oops) Montalbano
Lizbot (host) 7:23:30 PM
Ah
Ian Smith 7:24:26 PM
Oooooh yes. We lived in a big east coast city before kids and went out a lot. now it's been a while 🤣
Ian Smith 7:26:28 PM
This likely sounds a bit silly, but the chat is so thrilling. You. WPRB djs are my cultural anchor and send great joy over the internet
Lizbot (host) 7:26:30 PM
@Ian- I am maybe 3ish years or so from being able to go out without getting babysitting! When she was little, though, it was so hard to get anywhere without just bringing her and I couldn’t go to loud shows or stay out late. The worst was how little my non-parent friends understood this! They wanted to do dinner together at 10 pm! Ha. My pre-parenthood schedule!
Lizbot (host) 7:27:19 PM
@Ian- That’s so lovely, thanks! The chat has been a surprising and fun edition to the station this year!
Ian Smith 7:27:51 PM
yes! that sounds amazing. what age is that cool to do? I have a 4 yr old and 19 months, so it seems like maybe never
Ian Smith 7:30:27 PM
Been listening to the station since living in Ptown in the 90s, but the pandemic sort of supercharged my fandom
Lizbot (host) 7:32:36 PM
@Ian- Who knows these days?! I think it varies drastically, but in a few years, my kid will be 15, so I think that’s fine! But my parents left us home alone in the 80s when we were 10ish? It was definitely more lax then!
Anne Lopez 7:32:36 PM
I really like the chat too even though it's often a busy time for me to join in. Reminds me of chat rooms in like 1995 :-)
Lizbot (host) 7:33:33 PM
@Ian- Yeah, I grew up in South Jersey, then moved to Philly and discovered PRB in my early teens! Thank goodness for this station!
Ian Smith 7:33:46 PM
Anne, yes! Reminds me of when the internet was fun and exciting
Anne Lopez 7:34:21 PM
@Ian right!!
Christine Duffy 7:35:36 PM
Nahawa Doumbia 💜💜💜 I love that she has a new album out!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:19 PM
@Anne & Ian- Yes!!! And I’ve been listening to other DJ’s shows even more than usual during the pandemic. These are DJs I used to see in person, some of them every week, so it’s been nice being in touch this way! I love this listening community!
Lizbot (host) 7:36:33 PM
@Christine- Her album is so good!
Christine Duffy 7:37:23 PM
Thank you so much for playing it. Her voice and her music is a world treasure.
Lizbot (host) 7:40:51 PM
@Christine- No problem, it’s a gorgeous album
Mark 7:41:07 PM
@christine agreed / I’m trying to keep my post Ash Wednesday vow to stay off my screen & try to finish my book backlog/ just started the one i mentioned earlier & it should b an easy finish by next thurs if I stay off this iphone:)
Lizbot (host) 7:43:38 PM
@Mark- You gotta finish it for our book blog! Get on that!
Mark 7:45:24 PM
Ha except this show : chat too compelling/ i house u just said is former Penn international house on chestnut?
Christine Duffy 7:46:08 PM
Thanks, Liz Bot for another enlightening show. Thanks, chat peeps! I feel a lot less isolated with PRB and our chats.
Lizbot (host) 7:46:18 PM
I-House in Chestnut, yes. It’s closed now. They’re debating what to do with it. The movie series, Lightbox Film Center, moved to the Y
Lizbot (host) 7:47:10 PM
@Christine- Same here! Big help staying connected! So glad the station started the Listener Chat! Great to hear from you!
Mark 7:47:29 PM
Very interesting building tho not the most attractive / I remember seeing g interesting film series there back in the day
Lizbot (host) 7:48:02 PM
@Mark- The I-House is special to me. My parents’ wedding reception was there in 1970. I love the building- great example of brutalist architecture!
Mark 7:49:27 PM
Haha I’m going to have to do a closer inspection on next few weeks / awesome show see u next Thursday
Lizbot (host) 7:50:33 PM
@Mark- I and many of my fam members worked at Penn and spent a lot of time at I-House. A few friends worked in the I-House. I was the DJ for I-House’s Lightbox Film Center grand opening party with Allison Anders as guest! I love her. They screened Gas, Food, Lodging, which had just gotten the Criterion release treatment! I-House’s Film series had just been rebranded Lightbox and our old PRB DJ Jesse Pires heads it. Now it’s at the Gershmann Y
Lizbot (host) 7:51:02 PM
@Mark- See you next week! Read your book!
Lizbot (host) 7:52:06 PM
Haha, this song would have been a good time for me to have eaten my dinner rather than when I was playing a bunch of short songs around 6:15 and getting pot pie on my computer, updating the playlist!
Mark 7:56:41 PM
Just looked up Allison & first thing pops up she was prod asst on paris Texas / one of my all time faves!
Anne Lopez 7:57:48 PM
Great show! See you all next week.
Lizbot (host) 7:58:34 PM
@Mark- Nice! Yeah, she was a music critic and was and still is a radio DJ too. She and her daughter have a radio show together. She also has a website about how she bought Greta Garbo’s record collection and proceeded to update it with reviews of her collection and fun stories!
Lizbot (host) 7:58:41 PM
Thanks, Anne!
Lizbot (host) 7:59:15 PM
@Mark- Check out “Gas, Food, Lodging” some time!
Lizbot (host) 8:00:08 PM
And it takes place in a gorgeous desert!
Brian D 8:02:54 PM
Good night Lizbot and all
