good morning! live radio, yay!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 7:15:07 AM
Dhafer Youssef - nice choice for mourning.
Krista (host) 7:18:21 AM
such a beautiful song, the man and the horn blend together so well
Mark 7:44:10 AM
good morning & thanks for starting our PRB listening week about what time for the Cardinal nature discussion ?
Krista (host) 7:45:45 AM
hi mark, hoping for 9:00 am or thereabouts
Mark 7:51:20 AM
thanks u already have me looking stuff up / when I checked out necronomicon I’m directed to hp lovrcraft & all that it entails:)
Krista (host) 7:55:05 AM
I really loved Lovecraft Country the TV show. It's gory but also profound. Confronts Lovecraft's racism in a really interesting way and builds off his mythology
Krista (host) 7:56:23 AM
I do, of course, like Lovecraft's writing. At The Mountains of Madness is a very good radio play. Fine as a novella but as a radio broadcast it is stellar, really found its best medium there I think
jimbeauxsonic 8:03:40 AM
Hey Krista, Mark, Dave!
Krista (host) 8:03:59 AM
hey jimbeauxsonic!
Krista (host) 8:04:13 AM
did you add sonic to the end for a special reason?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 8:04:23 AM
Hello Jimbeauxsonic. I like the evolving identities.
Mark 8:05:49 AM
Yeah only found out about lovecraft recently/ the owner of the bookstore i frequent just told me he knew matt ruff the author of lovecraft country in college I’ve never read his or original stuff or seen hbo show / i gotta a lot of discovering to do
jimbeauxsonic 8:06:05 AM
DJs have been appending my name, so i just adopt anything interesting they give me for a while.
Mark 8:07:44 AM
Maybe these dj’s will morph jimbeaux into a new variation! :)
Krista (host) 8:09:16 AM
I gotta check matt ruff out! I read a lot of lovecraft in high school during my "sigh out the window" phase
Mark 8:15:09 AM
Yeah im prob gonna get his book this week from this store/ owner went to cornell w him & he brought his name up when i mentioned all the amazing authors who went there
Mark 8:16:59 AM
hmmm sigh out the window phases never really end :)
Krista (host) 8:21:21 AM
I've progressed into the "yell at the geese out the window" phase, Mark
Mark 8:22:38 AM
Haha find that hard to believe given how beautiful this music been today :)
Krista (host) 8:23:45 AM
I'm saving up some harder stuff, coming up
Brian D 8:26:48 AM
Morning
Krista (host) 8:26:57 AM
Good morning, Brian
Brian D 8:28:23 AM
This is great. Turns o phrase. Getting those syllables shot out like that.
Christine Duffy 8:29:43 AM
Good morning Krista, Brian, and everybody...I hope you're all struttin' like a button! 😄
Christine Duffy 8:30:00 AM
This song has such fun lyrics 👍
Brian D 8:31:52 AM
Cue Eric Idle & Pyhton... I bet they won't play this song on the radio....
Brian D 8:33:20 AM
O that steel...
Krista (host) 8:33:49 AM
Makes me want to take a trip to arizona to see what I can find in those thrift store bins!
Krista (host) 8:34:03 AM
the playing is so immaculate
Brian D 8:34:45 AM
Jerry Jeff Walker RIP
Christine Duffy 8:35:17 AM
Thanks for playing Trixie Mattel & Lavender Country; I didn't know about them!
Krista (host) 8:38:02 AM
just a teaser of woman of snow down mountain, my CD skipped! gotta find my digital version for next week
Brian D 8:39:41 AM
Hidden Cameras lp Home on Native Land is a good one that would fit in well on the show
Krista (host) 8:41:53 AM
I will check it out, Brian!
Krista (host) 8:43:22 AM
the percussion on this is so great. I only understand one or two words
Brian D 8:44:37 AM
Ja. I heard flasche wein (bottle of wine) and langsam (slowly)
Brian D 8:45:30 AM
What was the Greek sounding one on there as a replacment for skipped cd?
Krista (host) 8:47:26 AM
that was aris san, I need to enter it in later because I haven't installed the hebrew keyboard on my computer since the update
Christine Duffy 8:48:47 AM
It's always cool when kids can be heard in the background, and birds, dogs, and cats. 💗 Ambient homegrown radio!
Brian D 8:49:52 AM
Yes! Getting your John Cage on
Krista (host) 8:50:24 AM
but you're right, Brian, it is Greek. Aris San was a Greek Israeli singer
Krista (host) 8:51:19 AM
there's a documentary about his mysterious death called The Mystery of Aris San
Krista (host) 8:53:41 AM
hi Christine! good that you like it, because it would be very difficult to make him be quiet for three hours!
Krista (host) 8:54:42 AM
I challenged myself to find metal I like as I find it to be a very difficult genre (other than hair metal and proto metal) really like this Morowe album
jimbeauxsonic 8:56:39 AM
diggin' metal Polska
Krista (host) 8:56:52 AM
I listened to about 100 hours of metal from 2010-on to see if I really could trick my synapses and turns out I can! Still not a super fan but I find something intriguing about the percussion and of course the guitar here
Brian D 8:58:40 AM
Oo I'll look up Aris San sounds interesting
jimbeauxsonic 8:59:19 AM
Flex Luthor turned me on to Yaotl Mictlan...Mayan-influenced black metal. you might like!
Krista (host) 8:59:56 AM
Aris San was also a close personal associate of Moshe Dayan
Mark 9:00:09 AM
difficulty of lyric understanding here is high / polish language growl :)
Mark 9:02:19 AM
Just noted yaotl mictlan/ that sounds interesting !
Krista (host) 9:07:08 AM
Sounds cool, Jimbeaux, I will check it out
Brian D 9:08:36 AM
O i like this
Krista (host) 9:10:02 AM
I think it's the same label Elliot mentioned on his show this week Radio Martiko
Brian D 9:10:29 AM
Like mid east meets pong / video game sounds
Krista (host) 9:11:24 AM
He has an interesting keyboard on the cover, I'm not sure what type
Krista (host) 9:12:39 AM
This Silver Leaf just got re-released
Krista (host) 9:13:17 AM
1986 is when it was originally released
Mark 9:20:58 AM
Nice start to our listening week / i emailed pics to ur gmail of possible nature topic :)
Krista (host) 9:21:34 AM
Thanks, Mark
Brian D 9:22:38 AM
I looked at a bigger image of the Hany M lp cover. It is a Farfisa 'Professional'
Krista (host) 9:23:28 AM
ah, from "woolly bully"
Krista (host) 9:23:59 AM
that was a trivia question at music night back when I could go to trivia
Krista (host) 9:24:19 AM
I don't just have an encyclopedic memory of farfisa facts
Krista (host) 9:26:15 AM
the wikipedia on the farfisa is fascinating
Krista (host) 9:26:18 AM
Richard Wright's use of the Farfisa Compact Duo was integral to Pink Floyd's sound, the organ being his main instrument on the albums The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, More and Ummagumma. By 1970, he had started to use a Hammond Organ onstage and alternated between that and the Farfisa, depending on the song.[6] The Farfisa was last used on "Dogs" from Animals,[citation needed] but Wright reintroduced it to his keyboard setup on David Gilmour's 2006 tour, featured on the Pi
Krista (host) 9:26:30 AM
(from the wikipedia)
Christine Duffy 9:27:30 AM
Cool Farfisa facts! Thank you. 🎹
Brian D 9:27:58 AM
Richard Wright more Turkish Delight. Was the bandmates kidding utterance referring to letting Rick go off on his keys to stretch out the songs live.
Brian D 9:28:27 AM
He liked using some interesting modes / scales
sara 9:28:42 AM
I relate to the runny egg and metal music challenges
Krista (host) 9:31:07 AM
hey sara!
Krista (host) 9:35:32 AM
I've avoided the Turkish Delight treat entirely thanks to the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe
Krista (host) 9:36:28 AM
My 3rd grade teacher read that book to our class and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth at a certain beheading in the book. Looking back, that's a weird AF choice to read to a bunch of 8 year olds
Mark 9:38:15 AM
Thanks for the nice show and inspiring further lovecraft exploration:)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:38:39 AM
We read that book in our class as well, and all took a recipe home to make Turkish Delight. I recall it being awful.
Krista (host) 9:38:55 AM
enslaved for a snack and the snack isn't even good???
Krista (host) 9:40:52 AM
That's such a let down, Dave
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:41:47 AM
Yeah, I was wondering what the fuss was about.
Brian D 9:46:41 AM
Terry and Gaye Woods great musicians. Terry was in Steeleye Span and The Pogues 90s era
Pethie 9:47:04 AM
Enjoying the show, in between boring work things!
Christine Duffy 9:47:30 AM
Hey, all *waves* A friend of mine made Turkish Delight a couple months ago, and I thought it was interesting, but the texture was a little weird. It was really sweet.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:49:26 AM
Yes, Christine. Like Pixie Stix jello infused with rose water. Blech. Practically needed a shot of insulin.
Brian D 9:49:36 AM
Loved tLtW&tW book. 5th grade memory. Too much cornstarch coating on the Turk D'lite makes it terrible. But the inner candy part was like a soft gumdrop when we made it back then. Not great
Krista (host) 9:51:52 AM
Hey Pethie. And you all are reinforcing my lifelong boycott
Krista (host) 9:53:04 AM
Am I the only one here who gives a shit about the rules??? read a book about getting enslaved to a snack and yinz run out to eat the snack
Christine Duffy 9:53:16 AM
Dave & Brian, I agree. It was interesting to try, but I'm not going to become a fan. When I read the book, I always imagined that it must have been INCREDIBLE for Edmund to sell his family into slavery for it.
Christine Duffy 9:53:43 AM
@Krista, LOL! You're the only smart one.
Krista (host) 9:55:24 AM
relevant lyric from Mother of God: Now to embrace the plague of everyday
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:55:36 AM
This is aMurrica! Where we're free to make diabetes inducing sweets.
Christine Duffy 9:55:46 AM
