Morning, DJ Jen & all! Negativland was one of the musicians/groups I listed on the WPRB survey as ones I was turned into here.

Dave the obscure told me to run here, but I'm still late! Morning Jen! Digging this ex eye track, and nice choice on the survey Christine, maybe you should request they release the survey results on your survey!

there wasn't enough room on the survey to list the hundreds of bands I discovered, so I just listed the first new band I heard 29 yrs ago on air!

I think the first band that PRB turned me on to was a local hardcore band that covered the "Gilligan's Island" theme song. Turned out the legend of that song LOOMED LARGE in the station's history... http://www.wprbhistory.org/jeff_feuerzeig/

Probably one of my first adolescent college radio experiences. cruising the dial on my 80's boom box, and like what is this?

WTSR was the station I remember clearly.

Gotcha. Bob Conrad was also DJing a Saturday morning punk show at that time.

I would record staticy shows right off the radio on cassette to take with me on the school bus Walkman

We traveled to non existent rreggae shows more than once thanks to incorrect date/ month etc announcements from WTSR

I'm really loving this memory lane stroll. And how much radio has meant to SO MANY of us.

@Brian, haha! Many years after the fact, I do consider myself lucky to have seen so many classic reggae acts still-sorta-in-their prime thanks to that show. Sister Carol, The Wailers, Eek-a-Mouse, Yellowman.

Damn that's so cool, what were old school reggae shows like?

One was a reggae sunsplash fest non existing WAY up at Waterloo Village in N Jerz. Hmmm no rasta colored stickers on cars, no parking lot hacky sackers . . Hmmm no hang outers at all. Go to box office. They look at us strangely. Are we here for the show? Yes? We think? What show is it we ask.... ohh it's Regis And Kathy Lee! They had a music variety show that toured late 80s early 90s . We left

That was a LONG drive. But we explored & found some things to do

@the_dude, as I was like 17 years old when all of this happened and was catching a LOT of 2nd hand ganja smoke, the details are kinda hazy.

Best was a Bob Marley Day in Fairmount Park in Phila. Festival on grass. Lots of music, vendors, jerk goat/chicken, low police presence. Great time!

@mike L, I do remember that Conrad show on TSR! There was a third show I don't remeber the name but the dudes played a lot of west coast dark thrashy stuff.

And sounds like some good times everyone, I can imagine with those details alone, wasn't plugged into reggae shows as a kid but I wish I was, one day I'll get to go to one!

@dante She has a lot of moods - but funny that this song was around the same era! I haven't listened to her new stuff at all but am now curious.

@mark so funny! I used to love John Zorn "Spillane" for the long breaks.

@Mark, I can't isolate it down to a specific year, but at some point, I think the generally-understood smoke break song switched from "In a Gadda Da Vida" to "Marquee Moon".

Presently, I think we are witnessing the realtime transition from "Marquee Moon" to Olivia Neutron-John.
