Ah, I should have researched a bit more.

A ghazal is a poetic love song set to music, with lyrics typically in Urdu. A ghazal may be understood as a poetic expression of both the pain of loss or separation and the beauty of love in spite of that pain.

Ghazals come in styles ranging from westernized pop to semi-classical. Farida Khanum’s ghazals are usually semi-classical, usually based on ragas, and are analogous to thumris, but with more emphasis on lyrics.

There is a story attached to it. Thyagaraja goes to a temple during noon and the priest says "sorry lunch time" and closes the curtain. Then the composer sings this song, "Can't you open the curtain?" Miracle! The curtain opens. That is the lore. Another more realistic take is: "Can't you open the curtain of my ignorance?"

A "Tappa" is a form of Indian semi-classical music. Its specialty is a rolling pace based on fast, subtle and knotty construction.

It is believed that Tappa was derived from folk music of Punjab and Sindh.

Interestingly there are not that many practicing Hindustani classical musicians from the Parsi community. May be they drifted to Bollywood. Zarin is one and Firoze Dastur is the other I recollect

Yes. Parsis are generally a highly cultured community, but not well represented in classical music.

Zubin Mehta and his dad chose Western classical music

Bhatiali is a form of folk music in both Bangladesh and West Bengal. Bhatiali is a river song mostly sung by boatmen while going down streams of the river. The word 'bhatiyali' comes from 'bhata' meaning "ebb" or downstream.

A 'javali' is associated with classical Indian dance.

All your information is correct. Also Paras is also known as Paraju

Shantala is the sister of the famous child prodigy Shashank (flute)

"Swarna Jayanti" is in a raga created by Ravi Shankar, similar to Raga Bhatiar.

You are exactly correct, dude. I LOVE the dhrupad style.

But dhrupad pieces usually clock in at over 1 hour. That's hard to fit into a radio show.

A Tillana or thillana is a rhythmic piece in Carnatic music that is generally performed at the end of a concert and widely used in classical indian dance performances.

Drupad was the earlier form of Hindustani music before Khayal style took over. I too like Drupad - more meditative
