A seamless transition between shows!
Jen (host) 10:02:26 AM
High-five!
the_dude 10:02:43 AM
I totally concur Dave! I was gonna a say the same, I thought maybe Jen was letting your show play out
Mike Lupica 10:02:55 AM
Same here!
Jen (host) 10:03:14 AM
Hahah my secret plan is working!
Mike Lupica 10:04:20 AM
I feel like this song just took a very unexpected turn into 1970s gangster movie theme territory.
Brian D 10:04:22 AM
That was smooth
Jen (host) 10:04:58 AM
@mike it’s so Zorn-y that way. I love it!
Brian D 10:05:03 AM
Yeah I hear the sirens Mike....
Mark 10:06:09 AM
Ha i really thought Dave’s show ran over until i refreshed :)
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:07:13 AM
Yeah, this is exactly the kind of music I would play. And WILL play once I get this compilation!
Mark 10:07:47 AM
thus dave would have run a red light !
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:08:32 AM
Oh, brilliant!
Jen (host) 10:11:42 AM
Ha! I may have to start with avant-garde every week.
the_dude 10:14:12 AM
🐷💥♥️
Brian D 10:14:27 AM
Butterglove lp cover and band name- like like
Brian D 10:15:41 AM
From 20 min songs earlier this week we are pumped for Friday with some cool 1 minute songs!
Mike Lupica 10:16:00 AM
LaDonnas... I remember this record. In 1996, did I realize how much they sound like the Dickies?
Jen (host) 10:16:02 AM
Good morning!
Jen (host) 10:16:29 AM
And yes Mike, you did. Totally forgot about it until last week, though.
Mike Lupica 10:16:41 AM
#whew
Jen (host) 10:16:48 AM

Brian D 10:17:04 AM
Just the right amount of snotty
Ookla the Mok 10:18:31 AM
Ni hao ma?
Brian D 10:19:22 AM
Peachy
Ookla the Mok 10:25:18 AM
love that Avante-Garde Japan album. This is the third or fourth show that has played it on WPRB now
Brian D 10:26:45 AM
Love King Kong! Turned on to King Kong by what station you ask.... ? WPRB! Way back
Christine Duffy 10:28:10 AM
I'm loving this vibe right now.
Ookla the Mok 10:28:40 AM
*head banging*
Jen (host) 10:29:18 AM
This King Kong record has been so top of mind all week! Was it Kimmel who showed it on TV?
Jen (host) 10:30:21 AM
So glad you’re enjoying it!
Mike Lupica 10:30:23 AM
I think it was Jimmy Fallon?
Jen (host) 10:30:40 AM
Fallon! Damn, I can never remember the Jimmies.
Mike Lupica 10:31:01 AM
Hey-ba-hey-ba, hoba-hooba-hobba-hobba...
Brian D 10:31:45 AM
Exactly what I hear in my head when i see thr words King Kong
Brian D 10:32:09 AM
First song i ever heard by them right here
Tom 10:32:48 AM
usually mired in meetings on Friday morning, got a short respite today stopping in for a listen , I see many of the usual suspects are here, hi all !
Jen (host) 10:33:04 AM
I played King Kong for my 4-year-old for the first time last week - big dance party.
Jen (host) 10:33:17 AM
Hi, Tom!
Teresa Peacock 10:33:18 AM
Hi everyone! I've got to say that every time I hear this 2020 Metz without looking at the playlist confirmation, I think 'is this Cop Shoot Cop or Metz?' Do you hear that too?
Mike Lupica 10:33:40 AM
SHIT JUST GOT REAL.
Mike Lupica 10:34:03 AM
And I say that as someone who completely hates Kiss.
Brian D 10:34:32 AM
Straps on boots.... grows 3 feet higher... spits FIYAAHHHHH
Mark 10:35:41 AM
haha raise ur hand if u were expecting KISS this morning :)
Teresa Peacock 10:35:48 AM
@Brian D -- I can see it in my mind's eye now!
Tom 10:36:32 AM
wasnt expecting but sounds really good right now
Jen (host) 10:37:17 AM
@Teresa, I hadn’t, but I will now!
Christine Duffy 10:37:19 AM
Was this song always this tempo? I remember it being faster.
Brian D 10:37:23 AM
Lizbot played Ooh Child by Five Stairsteps month or so back. I looked up the song. Few days later googlo-ryhtm news let me know that there is a new cover of said sweet soul song. By mr Paul Stanley .... oof. Well it sounded note for note by the few seconds i heard
Brian D 10:38:00 AM
It was neither bad nor great cover
Teresa Peacock 10:38:30 AM
Funny I was thinking the same thing, @Christine! Plods along don't it?
Jen (host) 10:38:44 AM
Totally does!
Jen (host) 10:38:52 AM
@Mark ha!
Christine Duffy 10:39:17 AM
@Teresa, I'm glad it wasn't just me. It clumps along in 5" sparkly dragon boots...
Mike Lupica 10:39:25 AM
Confession: I had a KISS lunchbox when I was in 1st Grade.
Teresa Peacock 10:39:56 AM
Yeah, you gotta be careful in those platform boots -- twisted ankles, broken hips...
Jen (host) 10:40:18 AM
After hearing punk covers of Cheap Trick, I always felt like they plodded too. 70s were slow, apparently.
Christine Duffy 10:40:31 AM
@Mike, that's a collector's item now.
Jen (host) 10:40:31 AM
@Mike, jealous!
Brian D 10:40:46 AM
The "Let Me Get This Off My Chest" compiled Paul Stanley live song intros are fun for a while.
Teresa Peacock 10:41:24 AM
Not at all familiar with the post-KISS solo stuff by Stanley and his ilk. Must check those out!
Mike Lupica 10:42:06 AM
@Christine, yeah, I know. This is the one I had. https://tinyurl.com/wtvdvbed Crazy $$$ on ebay.
Mike Lupica 10:42:11 AM
ALAS.
Teresa Peacock 10:42:42 AM
That one is a true classic, Mike Lupica!
Brian D 10:42:54 AM
It is an unofficial fan made mash of his over the top way of hyping up the songs he and crowd have heard thousands of times
Teresa Peacock 10:43:16 AM
Oooo, Jake, my buddy! ❤
Brian D 10:43:45 AM
"... Chest..." that is. Guy has eenthusiasm i guess
Brian D 10:44:32 AM
This Jason L kicks!
Jen (host) 10:47:04 AM
I love that Jason L record!
Jen (host) 10:47:45 AM
Good ole Thou coming in to spoil the mood...
Jen (host) 10:49:27 AM
Who else had a music lunchbox as a kid? I had Snoopy. Pretty sure my parents had never heard of Kiss.
Ookla the Mok 10:50:49 AM
lol my parents thought Kiss were satan worshippers
Ookla the Mok 10:51:01 AM
along with every other heavy metal act
Mark 10:51:15 AM
spoil the mood ?! Was Emma the vocalist there ?
Brian D 10:51:22 AM
I think I had a Fat Albert lunchbox
Jen (host) 10:51:28 AM
That someone pitched putting Kiss on lunchboxes to begin with is kind of hilarious.
Mike Lupica 10:51:38 AM
How many other bands were on top of their merch game as Kiss was?
Jen (host) 10:52:00 AM
@Mark, yes, that was one of the collabs with Emma Ruth!
Mike Lupica 10:52:11 AM
I believe I convinced my mom to throw down for it (at K-Mart) on my assurance that they were just monsters.
Jen (host) 10:52:14 AM
Fat Albert, yes!
Jen (host) 10:52:27 AM
Hahahaha monsters with sparkles
Mike Lupica 10:52:38 AM
In hindsight, I wish I'd had a James Gang or Cheap Trick lunchbox.
Brian D 10:52:42 AM
Band members Blood in the comic book ink. Marketing gold there. Even if not true.
Teresa Peacock 10:52:57 AM
I grew up in a strictly classical music only household so my lunchboxes were gingham-print. We searched and searched at Caldor but, alas, there were no Mozart lunchboxes to be had!
Jen (host) 10:53:28 AM
@Teresa hahahaha oh wow, Caldor!!
Mark 10:54:01 AM
haha I would have believed urban legend of red ink was their blood 🩸:)
Brian D 10:54:02 AM
Mom can i have a Flower Travellin Band lunchbox? Son, you haven't heard of them yet, not for 30 years or so. ....
Teresa Peacock 10:54:34 AM
I remember that my classmates also decorated their KISS lunchboxes 'Clapton is God' stickers
Mike Lupica 10:54:44 AM
Hahaha... Keiji Haino lunchbox.
Teresa Peacock 10:54:47 AM
*with
Brian D 10:55:09 AM
Woolco. Some gem records in the cheap bin at Woolco.
Brian D 10:56:52 AM
My mom & I bought 3 of the classic Steve Martin stand up lps from the cutout bin @ Woolco one day. Lots of laughs
Colin McDonnell 10:56:58 AM
Cool comet yo. Is it usually on fire?
Brian D 10:58:38 AM
First time i saw the Rutles album cover was at Woolco. On cassette. What IS this? It looks familiar....
Jen (host) 11:00:03 AM
Was Woolco the same as Woolworths?
Ookla the Mok 11:01:52 AM
i remember Woolworth at the Oxford Valley mall
Brian D 11:05:21 AM
Yep Woolworth at OVM had a great record section too! My friends had a price tag switching game their . They'd switch double lp price tags out, buy them for 2 , 3 bucks. Sell them to me for 7 or 8 still a deal. Woolco was at the "mini mall" Lincoln Plaza right nearby
Mark 11:06:17 AM
had to look up to refresh my woolco memory/ Woolworth started woolco then closed them in 82
Brian D 11:07:38 AM
*there . Sears at OVM had record (cd tape) section and audio equip til early 90s too. Bought some great stuff there as they sent me a sears card! Welcome to credit young'n
Ookla the Mok 11:07:45 AM
the OVM had 3-4 CD/music shops at one point. I remember the one next to Walden Books had black furry stuff on the outside decor
Mark 11:07:54 AM
looks like Walmart biught a lot of stores & that’s how they got started in areas / one mans trash another mans treasure:)
Brian D 11:09:44 AM
Yes ookla. Wall to Wall Sound and Listening Booth were the standalones (plus dept stores that had record sections) . Then Wee Three Records came in. They bought out W2W & LB. Then there were 3 at once
Jen (host) 11:09:49 AM
All I want to do right now is bury myself in some dusty cheapo record bins. I guess there's one case a mask might actually be nice.
Ookla the Mok 11:10:35 AM
im remembering those long rectangular boxes CD used to come in - what a waste of cardboard they were
Ookla the Mok 11:11:00 AM
Positively Records is prob still all dusty and gross lol
Ookla the Mok 11:11:33 AM
as a child that store scared me...now I love it
Brian D 11:11:33 AM
Then in the 90s there was just FYE . Last one standing. I have not entered the mall in 10 years
Ookla the Mok 11:11:52 AM
The Wall/FYE *barfing*
Jen (host) 11:12:39 AM
Malls still give me hives. And those CD cases - oh man, what a blight on civilization those were!
Brian D 11:13:04 AM
Cats walking across the records ookla! I remember when Mitch (positively) was in I 95 Marketplace
Ookla the Mok 11:13:51 AM
*phew* totel rewind today. Glad my memory still works :)
Brian D 11:14:27 AM
Rainbow Records on Rt 1 by Highland Park was great . They had a good club member deal .
the_dude 11:14:33 AM
Hell yeah kid dynamite!
Jen (host) 11:14:48 AM
@the_dude it had been a while. ;)
the_dude 11:14:51 AM
Drummer used to be my girlfriend s boss at trader Joe's lol
Brian D 11:15:28 AM
The cases and the huge plastic security frames that made it impossible to stock and rifle through the cds
the_dude 11:15:35 AM
And yeah thou, and this whole set, has been enhancing my mood for sure
Brian D 11:17:44 AM
I would go into Rainbow Records and the nice staff would ask me if i needed help every 5 mins. I had to tell them "hi i am fine, i will be here for about 5 hours, look at everything several times, thank you". Not an exaggeration
Brian D 11:19:03 AM
They had a headphone booth too. But only stocked w latest releases and staff picks. A nice touch tho
Ookla the Mok 11:20:46 AM
memory lane
Jen (host) 11:21:50 AM
@the_dude, awesome! @Brian_D, I'm sure you weren't even the only one hahhhahh
Christine Duffy 11:22:44 AM
Yeah, Heatloaf!
Brian D 11:23:52 AM
Bose 301s and a Sony amp/receiver bought at Sears OVM about 30 years ago. Still working. Amp could use some contact cleaner spray tho
Jen (host) 11:23:58 AM
It's such a nice record! Though I admit that I may be enamored of their name.
Jen (host) 11:24:26 AM
Ha I bought my first receiver and record player at Sears! Babysitting money!
Mark 11:24:56 AM
shazam now starting to recognize heatloaf too !
Brian D 11:24:59 AM
Yeah they have it going on Jen. Like the melodies. And vocal harmonies
Brian D 11:26:04 AM
I JUST bought a replacement remote for the amp off eBay for 10 bucks. 29, 30 yrs of service job well done
Ookla the Mok 11:26:18 AM
yeah you got your $$$'s worth
Ookla the Mok 11:26:34 AM
"they dont make 'em like they used to"
Christine Duffy 11:27:57 AM
Heatloaf into Eno! Fantastic.
Jen (host) 11:28:03 AM
Wow on the remote AND Heatloaf+Shazam!
Brian D 11:28:16 AM
In the world of "no you gotta upgrade " i am not a stubborn luddite or anti tech , i love all the advancements. But i just stick with things that still work. Why not
Brian D 11:29:31 AM
And find a way to incorp all the new computers, tvs etc along the way to still work w the old audio
Ookla the Mok 11:34:49 AM
the new stuff is cool though. Playing 24bit FLAC is kind of awesome
Brian D 11:39:05 AM
Yes i agree! I have a lot of that . Some great vinyl rips
Ookla the Mok 11:43:23 AM
great show. Lots of bands ive never heard of. thx Jen
Mark 11:43:46 AM
Great fun show perfect for friday morning start to the weekend;) !
Mike Lupica 11:44:19 AM
Gotta peace out for now. Thanks for the great sounds this morning! I'll be back tonight at 8, filling in for Ameena. See y'all later.
Jen (host) 11:45:29 AM
thanks for joining, Mike! Catch you this evening!
Brian D 11:46:22 AM
I listen to more digital than vinyl these days. Gott get the turntable fixed. Well mostly WPRB really! Can't seem to get away from them
Jen (host) 11:47:00 AM
If you listen to WPRB, you're indirectly listening to tons of vinyl. ;)
Brian D 11:47:38 AM
Exactly! There it is. My vinyl needs satisfied
Bo 11:48:57 AM
Hi Jen! Loving your show today!
Brian D 11:49:11 AM
Slightly regret getting rid of the cassette collection and tape deck. But only 24/7/365 etc. Music listening pie chart just did not warrant those anymore
Jen (host) 11:51:14 AM
@Bo thank you! Glad you're here!
Jen (host) 11:51:49 AM
@brianD -- I actually have 3 boxes of cassettes on my floor right now waiting to get ripped before they disintegrate...I'm sure you did the right thing!
Bo 11:52:01 AM
Yep, thanks, lurking in the background.
Christine Duffy 11:55:47 AM
Thx, Jen!
Teresa Peacock 11:57:48 AM
Thank you, Jen! Great show as always! Have a glorious weekend! <3
Brian D 11:58:10 AM
Great show Jen!
Mark 11:58:18 AM
minute men for all of us bloomies! :)
Jen (host) 11:58:40 AM
Thanks for being here, everyone! That was a blast!
Bo 11:59:30 AM
Tanks Jen, great stuff!
