Harold and Maude is probly my fave of all time. Saw it at about 10 11 yrs age. Newtown theater a cool old school joint in Bucks Co. Early 1980s. Mom said i HAD to see it. Dropped me off and then... hooked. Watched it 20+ more times on cable in the years just after. Thanks mom!

Brian D 12:34:22 PM
I remember seeing Dave with Ween on local cable access tv (the Nothing Really Show) in 1997. He was new to band. The post Andrew Weiss era began. That was a fun show. They had pale white / grey make up on. Claude had a big mask & had to really scream loud for his vocal parts on Final Alarm.
Esoterica (host) 12:34:34 PM
gotcha...i did watch the depressing film lenny again not too long ago
Mark 12:35:17 PM
ha song title is actually smile at me again/ kk went to oxford too
Esoterica (host) 12:35:26 PM
haha, love that story, bri
Esoterica (host) 12:35:59 PM
yes, mark! i will play from when he was in studio a little later on
Brian D 12:36:45 PM
My band played on the show the month before. That show was great for the local Bucks Co bands. Ween was huge and probably the biggest band they had on there
Liz Bot 12:36:46 PM
Saw Donovan at the Tin Angel 20 years ago and got a photo with him on ye olde disposable camera, which the old Rite Aid that used to be on 15th & Locust LOST...had some epic Halloween party photos on it too. Never got over that one! At least I brought all my Donovan records (swiped from my parents’ collection, ha!) and he signed them all!
Esoterica (host) 12:37:29 PM
beautiful and heartbreaking story as well, lizbot!
Esoterica (host) 12:37:51 PM
nice, bri d! love local access programming
Brian D 12:38:01 PM
Dave's resume is crazy!
Colin McDonnell 12:38:15 PM
I watched that show Bri!
Colin McDonnell 12:38:58 PM
I love digging through youtybe for cable access performances.
Colin McDonnell 12:39:11 PM
but I caught that one live
Brian D 12:39:51 PM
Yeah ha. It was structured like a network late night tv talk show. Intro music, monologue, guests, musical guest etc. John Heitzenrater was the host.
Esoterica (host) 12:40:19 PM
hey colin! welcome
Esoterica (host) 12:40:31 PM
i will look up on the youtube:)
Colin McDonnell 12:42:02 PM

Esoterica (host) 12:42:47 PM
good idea
Brian D 12:43:23 PM
Look up the Ween show at Warrington Roller Rink from mid 90s on you tube. Good time
Colin McDonnell 12:43:28 PM

Brian D 12:50:47 PM
Ha i tied Dave for that
Ookla the Mok 12:50:54 PM
you guys are so sophisticated with your movies. I'm a Crocodile Dundee guy myself
Esoterica (host) 12:51:02 PM

Stevie P 12:51:22 PM
hey, lay off donald fagen!
Esoterica (host) 12:51:39 PM
hahaha i said i knew i was pushing some buttons
Brian D 12:51:55 PM
Leon Redone had Donald beat.... i think Leon didn't listen to anything pre 1920. . Ha
Esoterica (host) 12:52:24 PM
liz you've done a fagen show, right? i do like some steely dan songs... it was just an interview I heard
Esoterica (host) 12:52:42 PM
whoa, bri
Liz Bot 12:53:13 PM
I like the Dan, but I Fagan’s public persona is a bit music snob! He’s also very tongue in cheek, though. He & Becker had a very funny blog 15/20 years ago, around the time of the famed Yacht Rock series of joke videos!
Brian D 12:53:33 PM
I exaggerate... but Leon did feature the early 20th century music mostly
Liz Bot 12:53:44 PM
Erica, I played a tribute for Walter Becker when he died Labor Day weekend a few years back
Liz Bot 12:53:57 PM
But yes, I also whip out the Dan occasionally!
Brian D 12:54:23 PM
Maybe Idiot Wind from Blood on Tracks? Aaron busted that one out before
Esoterica (host) 12:54:24 PM
that was it! right:). it was. agreat show, liz
Esoterica (host) 12:54:41 PM
oooh, nice, bri!
Liz Bot 12:54:58 PM
And George met Walter Becker at the Columbus Circle Wholefoods and told him to “Surf and/or die!”
Esoterica (host) 12:55:24 PM
haha, nice! "you guys are so sophisticated with your movies. I'm a Crocodile Dundee guy myself" ookla. i like electric cowboy! so there
Esoterica (host) 12:55:41 PM
super cool, liz
Mark 12:55:51 PM
ha lizbot i remember that tribute show / it was fantastic- weren’t u near Bard when he died ?
Brian D 12:56:08 PM
Croc D is ok by me. But it's not quite Priscilla Queen of the Desert....
Liz Bot 12:57:28 PM
@Mark- Yes! I was attending my husband’s cousins’ wedding up there that Labor Day weekend. Listened to Steely Dan alllll weekend! drive home was brutal in the LB returning traffic through Nyc. You have a great memory!
Ookla the Mok 12:57:48 PM
hot sauce shop guy in town said Ween is playing with Les Claypool (resch from last year)
Esoterica (host) 12:58:34 PM
cool
Liz Bot 12:58:39 PM
I was there too, and saw Walter Becker in the Wholefoods hot bar and said to G “that is one VERY Walter Becker-looking guy!” and George said that IS WB, and I’m gonna talk to him! Becker was super friendly during short chat and seemed to appreciate George knew his solo stuff (Surf & Or Die is a solo song of his related to his time living in Maui!)
Esoterica (host) 12:59:09 PM
suh-weet
-ᎷяMΔᏞᏨØИᎢΞNᎢ- 12:59:10 PM
DJ Esoterica, very nice interview! Looking forward to the music!
Mark 12:59:16 PM
haha the reason i remember is becuz a woman who went to Bard got me to really understand & appreciate steely dan / I think they are under appreciated
Esoterica (host) 12:59:17 PM

I drive by Buckingham Green on my way to the pool. Shopping centet right near the Byoak Farm a practice space Ween was using circa Mollusk mid late 90s. Site of where Aaron previewed me & some others a new song on my mandolin he borrowed for a minute. Just sitting on the stoop of the farm house. It turned out to be Ocean Man. Told that story here before but retold for fund drive!
Liz Bot 1:03:46 PM
Yeah, that was a KILLER Notekillers track. Have seen them a handful of times
Ookla the Mok 1:04:46 PM
yes LizBot!
Liz Bot 1:04:48 PM

Haven’t heard High & Dry in a long time. Had a pretty intense fan phase around 1995-98 and got the band to sign my copy of that and a buncha singles and early stuff. In a shiny silver marker, purdy! I guess when Radiohead was all huge from OK Computer I coulda sold it for $$$

@mark, apparently Gypsy Dave died in 2019. Gyp Mills, also known as Gypsy Dave, English sculptor and songwriter, died June 18, 2019 . Interesting about Clem Catini. Gotta look for that interview
Brian D 1:25:10 PM
Ah yes when Donovan invented Led Zep. Some say Alan Holdsworth was lead gtr on Hurdy Gurdy. Or Alan Parker....

I still feel weird about slipping Robyn Hitchcock a drawing of a cake labeled “cake”. I thought he’d appreciate my favorite NY Chinatown pastry- an odd little chocolate cake labeled “cake” in icing. I think he was just confused but he has just so many songs about food, and something he said during his show for the Ole Tarantula tour reminded me of this cake and I drew it during the show and gave it to him when he was briefly at the mercy table

Haha, our ACMe was a 1600s Hicksite (Edward Hicks who painted The Peaceable Kingdom founded the Hicksite Quakers) Friends Meeting House that got bulldozed in the 70s to make an Acme!! No wonder Haddonfield got all uptight about preservation after that. JK, they were always uptight!

Teresa Peacock 1:53:40 PM
It was around 2001, in the wake of 9-11, and we had recently moved to Pennington, NJ, in June, from Brooklyn. The local NPR was beating the drum of support for conflicts in the Middle East. Depressed and fed up, I turned to 103.3 and Art Andrews was playing a Chrome song! My eldest son who is autistic was about 5 at the time. But his favorite band was Chrome (because I listened to it a lot) and he turned to the radio, his eyes got all big, and he murmurred "Chrome" reverently. Hooked I was!
Dana K (DBTF) 1:55:01 PM
@teresa, that's amazing!

Funny PRB memory was hearing 2 djs cracking themselves up by playing a silly song from a Strawberry Shortcake kids LP. Strawberry Rap. The djs would break in and "answer " Strawberry's vocals to "... sing strawww- Strawberry Rap!..." (djs cut the sound and shout STRAWBERRY RAP! in stoner laugh style) and turn on song audio again.... lather rinse repeat. Well a month or so later maybe longer that song i noticed again was a PRB Station ID for the ages!
