The Shaggs - Philosophy of the World
The Shaggs Philosophy of the World The Shaggs
Philosophy of the World
The Shaggs are notable for their perceived ineptitude at playing conventional rock music; they were described in one Rolling Stone article as "sounding like lobotomized Trapp Family singers".

Paul Anka (You're) Having My Baby (feat. Odia Coates) Paul Anka
Anka Capitol Records 2011
1978, Anka opened Jubilation, a restaurant and club considered one of the first modern-era nightclubs in Las Vegas; County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani was its first female bartender. His parents were both of Lebanese Christian descent. His father came to America from Bab Tuma in Damascus, Syria, and his mother was an immigrant from Lebanon.

Richard Harris - MacArthur Park

"MacArthur Park" was written and composed by Jimmy Webb in the summer and fall of 1967 as part of an intended cantata. Webb brought the entire cantata to the Association, but the group rejected it. The inspiration for the song was his relationship and breakup with Susie Horton. MacArthur Park, in Los Angeles, was where the couple would occasionally meet for lunch and spent their most enjoyable times together. At that time (the middle of 1965), Horton worked for Aetna insurance, whose offices were across the street from the park.

The Beatles (The White Album)
In 2012, the NME's website editor, Luke Lewis, argued that the Beatles had recorded "a surprising amount of ropy old toss", and singled out "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da" as "the least convincing cod-reggae skanking this side of the QI theme tune".

Kevin Federline - Popozão
Kevin Federline Popozão Kevin Federline
Popozão - EP

Federline appeared on WWE programming to promote his album, Playing with Fire (on which Popozão is not included due to its poor reception), and participate in an angle. He first appeared on the October 16, 2006, and October 23, 2006, editions of WWE Raw, in which he got into physical altercations with WWE Champion John Cena. The following week, he came to the ring to aid Johnny Nitro in his match against John Cena. After Cena got in Federline's face, Federline slapped him hard. He appeared again during the November 5, 2006, pay-per-view event Cyber Sunday, hitting Cena with King Booker's World Heavyweight Championship belt and helping Booker win the Champion of Champions match that was organized between Cena, Booker, and Big Show. The next night, November 6, 2006, he challenged Cena to a match at the New Year's Day edition of Raw, which Cena accepted.

In 1973, NASA used the song to wake up members of its space crew. The crew was allegedly so distracted from the shock over the course of the day that NASA forbade the use of the song for that purpose ever again, effectively banning the song from space.

Greatest Hits
In a poll for Q magazine in 2003, a panel of music writers voted "Agadoo" as the worst song of all time, saying: "It sounded like the school disco you were forced to attend, your middle-aged relatives forming a conga at a wedding party, a travelling DJ act based in Wolverhampton, every party cliche you ever heard."

An intriguing theme, Sara. What criteria did you use to select the 'worst of all time'?

I'm prepared for some truly execrable music. Hit us!
Teresa Peacock 10:38:09 AM
Good morning everyone!!! Berlioz's opera based on the Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini may be awful, but I can't recommend Benvenuto Cellini's autobiography enough! I had to read it -- in the original Italian -- for one of my last undergrad classes at NYU. Cellini can be credited with the "vanishing wax mold" innovation in creating his small and intricate bronze and gold statues and objets, but what is really great about his memoirs is that he was a truly horrible person and one of the least
Teresa Peacock 10:41:09 AM
reliable narrators of all times! He claims to have had the bubonic plague twice; the second time, he was cured by vomiting out a very colorfully spotted, psychedelic caterpillar(!) He also fatally stabbed at least one unlucky individual over some petty, perceived slight. But he escaped from the notorious Castel Sant'Angelo prison by hurling himself out a window and breaking both legs in the bargain. Yet, he lived to tell the tale!

Thanks for providing that insight, Teresa!
Selecta Jerry 10:55:35 AM

Christine {¤_θ}° 11:04:53 AM
Good morning, Teresa...that is quite the fantastic tale! 📖
Selecta Jerry 11:04:55 AM
I think i have heard this one on the sonic bloom! 😂🤣😂
sean burns 11:05:58 AM
Technically, I don't think this shagg's LP was awfully received at the time of its release. It seems it never had a real release, with the 200 or so copies that are out there sitting in their dad's garage. And when people did finally become aware of it, thanks to some Boston station that got a hold of a copy, it was pretty much hailed as an outsider masterpiece
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:06:05 AM
Yes, Selecta Jerry, I have heard the Shaggs on several WPRB shows.
sean burns 11:06:26 AM

ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 11:07:24 AM
Yeah, sean burns, this is cringe-worthy.
Christine {¤_θ}° 11:07:58 AM
Wild. Here's a New Yorker article on the weirdness of The Shaggs: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.newyorker.com/magazine/1999/09/27/meet-the-shaggs/amp

Much more enjoyable than Paul anka That's for sure
sean burns 11:14:02 AM
I hated this music and wondered what the heck was going on when it came out. My tastes have changed since then and can now enjoy musique concrete and discordant avant-garde stuff much more than in my youth
Mark 11:27:14 AM
haha the lyrics r great in a kitschy way ! :)
sean burns 11:30:18 AM
Well he certainly put his heart into singing this. I can imagine him down on one knee, head bowed, grimacing with a hand in the air

it might be the epitome/definition of camp :)

sean burns 11:44:40 AM
If you have the 1988 rounder records three issue of the shaggs LP with the extra cuts, their version of paper roses and give me that ding etc, I would venture that "Shahg's own thing the vocal version" is the worst thing they put down on vinyl
sean burns 11:45:24 AM
It is their father and their brother doing a terrible duet arguing about the young guy sneaking out with the other guys girl. It truly must be heard
connor 11:45:49 AM
so glad i'm catching this set
Christine {¤_θ}° 11:47:00 AM
Wow.
Mark 11:54:32 AM
any t bone burnett bad is offset by the great stuff he did for coen brother soundtracks
Mark 11:57:12 AM
