7:01 AM		Steve Tibbetts Sunrise Steve Tibbetts Frammis 1977 Tibbetts used an EML 101 synthesizer and the four-track Dokorder 7140.
7:05 AM		Steve Tibbetts The Secret Steve Tibbetts Frammis 1977 Recorded late at night in the Macalester music department's electronic music studio. By late summer of 1976 Tibbetts had enough music for an album but little chance of getting a label to put it out. He did have something he could use for a cover from his work as an art major and a little money saved from a night shift job at Minnesota Public Radio, so he found a pressing plant in Arizona that would manufacture 200 albums for $600 and he sent them his stuff. About a month later they sent him the finished albums.

Been thinking lately about now nuts it is how quickly rock guitar music evolved from like 1960-70

A creative period for pop music.

I've been thinking that it is these recent years, with the internet bringing all music to everybody, that music is evolving at a much faster pace.

Agreed @dave re: the internet. I think it has also turned the term "genre-defying" into a reality instead of largely a buzzword haha. Much less clear boundaries, and arguably less need for boundaries of genre

Anyone ever watch the TV show Stella? With David wain, Micheal Ian black, David Showalter? Funny bit on the genre funk rock

College rock was a more commonly heard term for a while [80s into 90s]. Indie was understandable. But "Alternative" was thrown around too loosely. Sounded like an industry or radio invented thing crow barred into everywhere

Forgot about Stella... Yeah those people are funny. The State / Wet Hot American Summer etc

I am intrigued by cover versions, particularly when they drastically reimagine the original song.

Cover songs can be pretty fascinating. Up until today I never knew that Phish covered the entire Remain in Light album by TH.

BAM - what a morning rush. But yes, the state and the wet hot crew are some of my favorite! Stella is a great show, definitely worth checking out, silly bit smart. The web series before the TV show, also great, raunchy and more mature but some really great music/song choice jokes in there. I've seen Stella live too, very funny show, they're all really nice too. - oh and that last track, my customers had to deal with it being blasted, it ripped!

Angélique also covered the entire Remain in Light LP. Just a year or so ago.

Thanks for that information, DJ Dave. I will seek out her album! I really hope I can see Angélique Kidjo live once more in my life. Her concert was one of the most life-affirming experiences.
