Steve Tibbetts - The Secret
Steve Tibbetts The Secret
Steve Tibbetts Frammis 1977

Recorded late at night in the Macalester music department's electronic music studio. By late summer of 1976 Tibbetts had enough music for an album but little chance of getting a label to put it out. He did have something he could use for a cover from his work as an art major and a little money saved from a night shift job at Minnesota Public Radio, so he found a pressing plant in Arizona that would manufacture 200 albums for $600 and he sent them his stuff. About a month later they sent him the finished albums.

Been thinking lately about now nuts it is how quickly rock guitar music evolved from like 1960-70
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:12:25 AM
A creative period for pop music.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:19:48 AM
I've been thinking that it is these recent years, with the internet bringing all music to everybody, that music is evolving at a much faster pace.
esoterica 8:22:11 AM
good morn, dave! my husband was driving at 7:23 am and texted that you played some incredible tood rundgren prague rock song? maybe he was mistaken. i don't see todd on your plkaylist

Chef Emeril "WPR-BAM!!!" Lagasse 8:25:56 AM
Agreed @dave re: the internet. I think it has also turned the term "genre-defying" into a reality instead of largely a buzzword haha. Much less clear boundaries, and arguably less need for boundaries of genre
Brian D 8:26:00 AM
Missed that one too. (Yes cover) have to check it out later
Christine {¤_θ}° 8:26:39 AM
How's everybody doing? 🛰 Did anyone see the ISS fly over early this morning?
the_dude 8:26:54 AM

esoterica 8:28:15 AM
haha i just realized my hubby had a typo there (prague = prog). a simple mistake
the_dude 8:28:25 AM
I used to be very into specific genre identifying, kinda fun, but agreed Chef, the boundaries blur a lot, no space station over here either , idk I'd the city lights would allow
esoterica 8:28:26 AM
must have been that yes cover
jimbeaux 8:28:40 AM
yodelly-ho everyone! saying hi before my day is consumed by hecticity.

I just saw those bees, so cool!
Brian D 8:31:41 AM
My buddy first heard the term "Indie rock" in the late 90s early 2000s. He thought at first it had to do with the country of India.
the_dude 8:32:21 AM
Haha, I think it should go back to that, indie is too catch all
esoterica 8:33:40 AM
thx, jimbeaux.
esoterica 8:33:58 AM
are those "bees" brood x?
the_dude 8:34:23 AM
Anyone ever watch the TV show Stella? With David wain, Micheal Ian black, David Showalter? Funny bit on the genre funk rock
Brian D 8:35:18 AM
College rock was a more commonly heard term for a while [80s into 90s]. Indie was understandable. But "Alternative" was thrown around too loosely. Sounded like an industry or radio invented thing crow barred into everywhere
Brian D 8:36:32 AM
Forgot about Stella... Yeah those people are funny. The State / Wet Hot American Summer etc
esoterica 8:37:59 AM
i will have to check out stella.
Brian D 8:39:58 AM
Very short run as a show .. but i see they toured too
Christine {¤_θ}° 8:40:26 AM
@the_dude, I never saw the tv show Stella. I'll have to look that one up.
esoterica 8:46:43 AM
hey dave, i bet todd covered heart of the sunrise, too. therein lies ward's (my husband) confusion. checking...
esoterica 8:48:23 AM
not that you are that concerned about this issue.;). haha
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:48:45 AM
No, I'd be interesting in hearing that. Doesn't seem to be the sort of song he'd cover.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:51:33 AM
I am intrigued by cover versions, particularly when they drastically reimagine the original song.
Christine {¤_θ}° 8:55:28 AM
Cover songs can be pretty fascinating. Up until today I never knew that Phish covered the entire Remain in Light album by TH.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:57:02 AM
So my good deed for the day is done already.
Christine {¤_θ}° 8:58:20 AM

ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:58:22 AM
But I think I like Angélique Kidjo's cover better.
Christine {¤_θ}° 8:59:40 AM
Oh, I really like Angélique. 💜 But I never heard her cover the Talking Heads.
the_dude 8:59:44 AM
BAM - what a morning rush. But yes, the state and the wet hot crew are some of my favorite! Stella is a great show, definitely worth checking out, silly bit smart. The web series before the TV show, also great, raunchy and more mature but some really great music/song choice jokes in there. I've seen Stella live too, very funny show, they're all really nice too. - oh and that last track, my customers had to deal with it being blasted, it ripped!
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:02:02 AM
Angélique also covered the entire Remain in Light LP. Just a year or so ago.
Corage Mike 9:02:19 AM
Wanted to be astute. Phish on PRB.!
Christine {¤_θ}° 9:06:36 AM
Thanks for that information, DJ Dave. I will seek out her album! I really hope I can see Angélique Kidjo live once more in my life. Her concert was one of the most life-affirming experiences.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:16:33 AM

ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:26:14 AM
