Jersey fresh! Boogaloo Joe is from Vineland, this was actually recorded in Upper Darby....

Just had great childhood memory revisited last night. Watched Race For Your Life Charlie Brown the animated full length Peanuts film from 1977 where they go to camp and compete in a white water rafting race ha. Anyway there is a great funky soundtrack and theme song. Not the Vince Guaraldi music of past specials which was great of course but they successfully updated the sound for the 70s.

Bogas did music form some of the early Bakshi cartoons too (FRITZ THE CAT, HEAVY TRAFFIC). Funny, I've been wanting to see RACE FOR YOUR LIFE too, after watching A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN (my fave) and SNOOPY COME HOME recently. Great features, they're under-herelded...

I saw it at a matinee whenit first came out

It was fun to see it and hear it all bright and crisp on the big tv. Silly crazy meandering. Snoopy and Woodstock of course are the coolest characters in it. Snoop rides a souped up chopper separate from the kids in their boring schoolbus. Decked out in shades etc w appropriate funky soundtrack

Yeah A BOY NAMED CHARLIE BROWN from 1969 with songs from Rod McKuen has a timely psychedelic style montage at one point...

I need to revisit the Peanuts features. It's been too long. Hearing the Vince Guaraldi soundtracks is like coming home.

Yeah, the features are semi-forgotten but I certainly loved them as much as a specials...

Yeah, I love Guaraldi. When I lived in San Fran I met people who saw him live regularly (he was an S.F.er....)

I was big on the overnight guy, "The Night Train, with Richard Crane..." He seemed to be the guy they really let off the chain, playlist-wise. Lotsa deep cuts by Louis Prima...

I remember Di Bella used to mock them for having old listeners listening to old music.Now Di bella hosts a morning show of old music with old music.

I was forced to listen to DiBella's Zoo at a job back in the day. It kinda filled me with murderous hate for the show and the format.

Endless plays of Bryan Adams' "Hearts on Fire"

I had the A Boy Named CB soundtrack LP as a kid. Loved that. Had a great music teacher in elementary school that would do a 1 man show IN CLASS FOR US ONLY where he'd put the soundtrack LP on and lip sync the ENTIRE THING . With scarf and goggles for the Snoopy character he'd sit on top of the upright piano. He was wild.... oh the 70s!

Funny!

Our music teacher would fold his arms and stand in front of the class and say he could wait as long as we cold for the class to be quiet. Butturns out he couldn't and he'd finally resort to shouting us down...

Dan... for some relief i hope.. a person that looked an awful lot like me as a 20 something year old would torture DiBella w prank phone calls. Nothing nasty or offensive just constant annoyance.... ahhh that was fun... um i mean er it must have been fun for that guy... "John can you play any Lothar and th Hand People....?" Over and over theme and variations on that call. And them stop for a year or 2. Then pounce and call again w that request.... when he least expected it ! And other fun stuf

Years later, worked with a guy who didn't impress me but tried to by bragging that he was one of the creators of MMR's "Zoo" show. I went from not being impressed to feeling like I was working with a war criminal...

Dan same teacher would fold his hands and scold us for talking too. Silence sometimes. And sometimes he woulf fold his hands and just laugh robitically and maniacally "HA HA HA HA HA...." for an entire minute or so until we stopped talking or not....

I recall WPEN "Station of the Stars" fondly because my mother (b. 1934) would always have it on the radio in the kitchen. Growing up, I heard a lot of swing, big band & jazz.

Actually, since my first car, a '66 Volkswagen, only had an AM radio, I drove through my late high school years only listening to PEN. While other kids pulle dinto the school lot blasting Van Halen and AC-DC, I'd slide in blasting Basie's "Jumpin' at the Woodside

...leading to me being susceptible to Miles Davis and Chet Baker record a few years later...

I'd say "wildly overdone" as a covers choice but he's so great at rearranging these things...

@Dan, maybe driving a car with only an AM radio wasn't such a bad thing. You wouldn't have been able to listen to PRB though.

It gave me a schooling I wouldn't have had otherwise, when I started listening to post bop, I knew those standards they were playing, lyrics and all (I also had all of Sinatra's Capitol records).

I got a Pioneer Super Tuner stereo as a graduation gift, leading to a long mix cassette era....

I remember 1570 am in Bucks county had a brilliant short run of.eclectic 70s pop hits.
