That is interesting! Makes me dig her even more.

Her autobiography is quite a read. One of her first memories is discovering the body of a dead hobo as a child.

I don't go too far down those pricey reissue paths but I did pick up the Andrew Hill PASSING SHIPS last week....

That vinyl edition of the excellent new Charles Lloyd and the Marvels is tempting though....

In the 90s, that groove organ sound was still very popular, Charlie Hunter packed 'em in with a very similar groove....

Caught the tale end of the neighborhood bar with the Hammond B-3 in the corner in the mid-80s in Philly...

Saw Bob Smith organ trio in Trenton and greater area back in mid 90s. Sometimes guests like Bootsie Barnes, Ritchie Cole and Bo Parker would turn up

Bob Smith Trio rather. As Bob is a guitar player. But ya they are an organ trio. That sound & style

It really fits into the bar scene well. And goes over well w mix crowd of the diff fans of rock, soul, jazz etc. Good grooves

Yeah, I used to DJ in bars regularly, Lou Donaldson's "Alligator Boogaloo" was a go-to....

For that Los Kings cut, did they rip off or cover Fela or did he do the same to them? Same tune on his album with Ginger Baker

I knew it was Fela-like but I didn't know it was a direct cover! I'd assume they ripped off Fela, it's completely his sound and he was popular throughout South America. Always intrigued by the South American/Africa cultural exchange....

I haven't listened to much Radiohead in years but I feel like I got a little with my black midi....

Looks like Monday Krista Habitat stays 7 to 10, Sonny Boy III 10-12 blues, Dan here Noon-3, Ameena Clowntronics 3-5, KPC stays at 5-8, Rosasolis Notebook stays at 8-11, Hot Girl Theory, then Fresh From the Garden into late night Mon/Tues a.m.
