Sometimes I place music in a decade but it's a year off . We did an 80s show for School of Rock and a tune from the B52s "comeback " LP was in the set . I always think of that lp as so "90s" but it sneaked in during 1989

unfortunately i had no vacay! mr. m, sad story. i dropped mint tea on my computer! hahahah

Love Shack was the tune from that lp. Fun bass & gtr parts to go over.

It’s not surprising that a Boston band like the Real Kids covered that song. Around the time that show was recorded, a “Cheers” episode displayed the graffito “God Save the Kinks” on the men’s room wall.

I recently read “Velvet Underground and Nico”, written by Joe Harvard for the 33⅓ book series about classic record albums. There’s a funny bit about the song “Venus in Furs”, named after Leopold von Sacher-Masoch’s 1870 novel inspired by his own kinky private life (and adapted into film by Joel Schlemowitz).

Joe wrote: ‘[It] is thus a song composed by a writer who bases most of his work on his life, based on a book that is based on its own writer’s life. In other words, “Venus in Furs” is art mimicking art mimicking life (or life mimicking art mimicking life, depending on whether you consider songwriting to be “life” or “art”). Just be thankful that Reed didn’t see Schlemowitz’s film and base the song on that, in which case it would have been—well, you get the picture.’

Joe pointed out that the song omits the novel’s character Alexis Popadopolis: ‘Perhaps it was too hard to rhyme much with Popadoplis besides Metropolis. Dangerous territory, even for an English major with a rhyming dictionary who takes so much speed he only needs to sleep every third day’.

I bought that Minutemen double LP when it came out. I remember each of the four sides ended with automobile sounds, which alerted me to flip the record over. I wonder if those sounds were included in the cassette and CD formats.
