Welcome friends! Thanks for joining the chat this morning!

I was fortunate to have caught the annular eclipse 🌒.
Brian (host) 10:24:19 AM
Welcome Dave! Where did you see it from??
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:24:47 AM
For ONCE, the clouds cooperated. Usually, clouds interfere with everything (Venus transit, meteor showers, comets).
Brian (host) 10:25:47 AM
I know! Honestly this is the reason it is hard for me to plan ahead for these things. I thought about driving to the beach to see the eclipse, but the risk of waking up at 4:30am to see only clouds discouraged me.

I scoped out a location in advance in Plainsboro. We have some farm fields at the edge of town, where the grove of trees are distant enough to block only the first few minutes of sunrise.
Brian (host) 10:27:18 AM
That sounds like a great choice. Farmland is reliably flat and tree-free.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:28:18 AM
It was cool to see an orange crescent sunrise.
Brian (host) 10:29:56 AM
I bet! I was happy to at least see a chunk taken out but I didn't realize when I went out how fast the shadow would move away. in 20 minutes, I think it went from >70% coverage to ~30%.

I'm looking forward to the discussion of exoplanets. Even having taken 1 astrophysics class in college, I have trouble understanding how we can infer anything definite from the transits of these distant exoplanets. I mean, even with modern telescopes, the stars are still just tiny points of light.
Brian (host) 10:51:08 AM
Exoplanet scientists have become more and more clever... You need more than one way to verify their existence, too!
Mark 11:04:46 AM
hi brian welcome to the sunday schedule! are you archiving your shows i didn’t see them on the tvr2 web site
Brian (host) 11:20:23 AM
Thanks Mark! I'm glad you found me :) So far I have been too busy with other things to post the shows, but I do have recordings so maybe can begin if there is popular demand
Mark 11:22:53 AM
ok thanks if u don’t post them only gives us more incentive to b listening all the time :) i missed the expansion discussion:(
Brian (host) 11:24:00 AM
Sorry to hear it, but I'm glad you're here now!
Mark 11:26:50 AM
ha thanks ! maybe we can form a group of tvr2c listeners who can discover an exoplanet! :)
Brian (host) 11:46:04 AM
You all ought to! It would be a WPRB-based science publication
Brian (host) 12:00:03 PM
Thanks everyone for tuning in today!
