Esoterica (host) 10:27:19 AM
oh agreed, mark. hi, good morning, bri!
Brian D 10:32:02 AM
Great progression and arrangement on this Korner track . Wild changes. I see this guy's name in just about every bio book of the classic UK rock bands
Esoterica (host) 10:32:32 AM

Fab job subbing this morning for SBW IIIrd, Esoterica,. Very enjoyable. And what a command of blues and early jazz you also have. Thanks!
Esoterica (host) 10:59:58 AM
Hi Richard! Thanks for tuning in...I do love this music (of course, I do consult a cheat sheet, but please don't look behind the curtain!). haha

Esoterica (host) 11:13:36 AM

Richard from Rocky Hill 11:15:01 AM
Oh MYYYY! Miss La-Vell flat out SCORCHED that one! Another of the many pleasures of 'PRB -- the fabulous music talents rescued from undeserved obscurity by your airplays (and the user-friendly play lists, guiding our listener ways further).

Mark 11:29:26 AM
article is in princeton alum weekly for those who didn’t see
Brian D 11:29:54 AM
Love the Miles version of "Surrey..."
Esoterica (host) 11:30:11 AM
aw me, too
Esoterica (host) 11:30:27 AM
i will have to relisten to the miles version
Brian D 11:37:02 AM
Yeah the "---in' With the Miles Davis Quintet' series with various dropped-g verbs at front of the lp titles. The Legendary Prestige Quintet Sessions collects them but i like the original track list orders. Either way good listening!
Mark 11:37:42 AM
great album art to this sharkey music !
Esoterica (host) 11:37:48 AM
true
Brian D 11:39:14 AM
Cookin', Relxin', Workin, Steamin'. Oh and just plain "Miles" title too forgot about that one. Keely & Louis Prima were so great alone and together.
Esoterica (host) 11:39:23 AM
true
Esoterica (host) 11:39:39 AM
keely had her cross to bear with louis, apparently
Mark 11:43:08 AM
great sounds today ! & we’ll get to hear ur former show neighbor dan soon :)
Esoterica (host) 11:43:22 AM
yes! will intro him
Brian D 11:44:51 AM
nice Leo Cohen cover
Brian D 11:47:36 AM
We had the Leonard live from London version on the wedding play list. Other friends that got married a month earlier did the same . Knew we chose well & kept it on our list too.
David Shortell 11:48:09 AM
Skip Baker records figure importantly in Terry Zwigoff’s “Ghost World”. The soundtrack album (padded out with tracks from Zwigoff’s personal record collection that aren’t really heard in the movie) has curmudgeonly liner notes by the blues purist Zwigoff, damning Cream and their version of “I’m So Glad”!
Esoterica (host) 11:48:18 AM
so sweet!
Esoterica (host) 11:49:11 AM
haha that is great info, david. you also told me zwigoff used all his own 45s for the ghost world soundtrack. thanks for checking in!
David Shortell 11:49:35 AM
78's, I think!
Esoterica (host) 11:49:46 AM
right!
Daniel Buskirk 11:50:22 AM
Crazy sounds!
Brian D 11:50:36 AM
Ghost World is a fun time. Skip James and others on the soundtrack. Love the whole 78 record collector curmudgeon angle in there
Esoterica (host) 11:50:54 AM
i need to watch GW again!
Mark 11:51:41 AM
@David I’m def gonna check out those zeigoff liner notes
Esoterica (host) 11:52:18 AM
thx so much for stopping by! have a great week. and see ya Thursday, hopefully! and check in with SBWIII next week:)
Brian D 11:52:26 AM
I often bring up the BLUES HAMMER! fake request joke in Sonny Boy III's show haha
Esoterica (host) 11:52:47 AM
lol
Mark 11:52:55 AM
sounds like he b a bit snobby i think their version is great
Brian D 11:53:02 AM
Rings so true.
Brian D 11:53:53 AM
Yeah Mark. I love the Cream version
Daniel Buskirk 11:54:22 AM
Nothing to add, except I want to see what my new icon looks like...
Esoterica (host) 11:54:26 AM
hi, dan! just have you a shout out. just discovered this album. def inyour musical vein.
Esoterica (host) 11:54:36 AM
*gave you
Brian D 11:55:06 AM
The UK bands that were into the blues made me go out and buy the blues artists records and read about them
Daniel Buskirk 11:55:23 AM
Yes, I'm a fan. I believe Tony Malaby is partners with Princeton prof/pianist Angelica Sanchez...
Brian D 11:55:43 AM
And US bands too ( Dead , Allmans, etc)
Esoterica (host) 11:56:00 AM
wow, that is cool, dan
Esoterica (host) 11:56:50 AM
figured an apt transition song to your show....:)
Brian D 11:57:25 AM
Yeah this is interesting... Great mood and interplay
Daniel Buskirk 11:57:53 AM
Indeed, opening with a nice piece from Jeanne Lee's recently reissued classic, CONSPIRACY....
Esoterica (host) 11:58:14 AM
i will listen! thanks
David Shortell 11:58:21 AM
Zwigoff is a buddy (and bandmate in the Cheap Suit Serenaders) of cartoonist Robert Crumb, of whom he directed the 1994 documentary film. Crumb’s another old grouch who hates electric blues-rock. He even claims to dislike the Rolling Stones! Which is rather fishy, considering he created a character named “Jumpin’ Jack Flash”.
Esoterica (host) 11:59:04 AM
haha interesting anecdote. i love the crumb doc...
Esoterica (host) 11:59:25 AM
sad, depressing yet affecting
Mark 11:59:46 AM
haha tho i guess we also do need ultra purists too for their pov
Esoterica (host) 12:00:10 PM
have a great show, dan!
Brian D 12:00:23 PM
See y'all in Dan chat
Brian D 12:00:30 PM
Good time Eso!
Esoterica (host) 12:00:40 PM
thx! have a great week.
