Morning everyone!
Brian D 10:05:29 AM
Good morning
Richard from Rocky Hill 10:05:53 AM
And good morning to you, SB IIIrd!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:07:39 AM
I ended up on the compilation I'm playing from right now searching for a few names mentioned in this very interesting story shared by Mike Lupica: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/dont-call-it-doo-wop-180977950/?fbclid=IwAR1dcEizkcAO76V9-2-AaJQSzbM959wgD2sP5Ykry8XW9cYxMVu393ZiXNE
Mark 10:14:38 AM
wow! fascinating article never knew that place existed / can you help me do my homework before i visit his store ?!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:15:21 AM
"group harmony records" apparently is the preferred nomenclature!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:15:47 AM
I think you're doing your homework right now
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:16:40 AM
!
Mark 10:20:35 AM
haha yes this show is educating & u had a very capable fill in last week too ! :))
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:22:52 AM
Esoterica is one of the best!
Brian D 10:24:27 AM
Perfidia in a "group harmony " arrangement! Cool. You could do an entire show on Perfidia
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:25:10 AM
Favorite renditions, Brian?
Mark 10:28:00 AM
folklore & blues are a perfect combination :)
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:28:29 AM
This super dark, minor key acoustic ballad is such a surprise from Willie Dixion. I wonder how it got recorded - sounds like a demo.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:28:42 AM
I don't know if anyone else has recorded it
Richard from Rocky Hill 10:31:47 AM
I was just on SmileAmazon to buy a few downloads from your major album discovery "Midnite Blues Party." And if it's a bootleg, it's a dang good one! It's reissue sound reproduction is impressive.
Brian D 10:34:03 AM
Ventures in the medley of Walk Don't Run - Perfidia - Lullaby of the Leaves is a fave. I heard a great Cuban version "Theme on Perfidia " on Cuban Jam Session Vol 1. Love the Shadows version too. Nat King Cole. Glenn Miller had famous versions. So many. . .. Brubeck. Bonfa....
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:36:36 AM
Good to know Brian! And I'm not sure if it actually is a bootleg -- a lot of amazing selections on there, may be pulled off of 45s or maybe taken from original masters! I don't quite have the ears to spot the difference. I can't find too much on "Electro-Fi Records"

David Shortell 10:41:00 AM
I never liked the term "doo-wop" either, but--for lack of a better name--used it when I requested the Zodiacs on this past Saturday's Uneasy Listening program.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:43:31 AM
You could say "Group Harmony" but people won't necessarily know what you mean
David Shortell 10:48:51 AM
Yeah, just like I prefer to say the proper "amn't I" instead of "aren't I", but people just look at me weird.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:52:44 AM
I ain't never even thought about that!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:52:55 AM
Or I aren't never
David Shortell 10:54:05 AM
I'll settle for "ain't I", but I ain't never gonna say "aren't I"!
Commie Francis 11:02:08 AM
my dog walter has the blues often, dur dur d'etre chien
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:03:23 AM
ah les blues de chien
David Shortell 11:06:49 AM
The song “Mademoiselle Nobs” (performed in the film “Pink Floyd: Live at Pompeii”) proves that dogs are great blues singers.
Mark Reichard 11:08:34 AM
Since this is developing into an homage to Hippocrates, should we expect an appearance by Dr. John?
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:09:15 AM
Ah! How could I have forgotten that doctor. Alas I'd never hack it in med school.
Mark Reichard 11:10:20 AM
Mmmm, chicken
Mark Reichard 11:11:30 AM
I know a woman who worked as a nurse at Cedars Sinai in L.A. and she said that Dr. John wanted to take her on the road as his nurse.
Mark Reichard 11:13:27 AM
One of my best friends growing up was named Tommy Johnson. Pretty sure he was a different dude, though.
Mark Reichard 11:14:49 AM
One thing about these blues shows is the old songs were pretty short--keeps a DJ on his toes, eh?
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:15:33 AM
Indeed!

Sonny Boy III (host) 11:17:37 AM
hahaha probably plenty of Tommy Johnson's still walk among us
Mark Reichard 11:18:02 AM
Nice article
Elliot 11:23:43 AM
I stepped away for the Bubby Rush. Sad to have missed it!
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:24:12 AM
Thanks for the recommendation!
Brian D 11:29:00 AM
Great version of Walk Right In. If i ever get a chance to play someone's 12 string acoustic gtr the instrument just automatically plays Walk Right In. Made for it
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:29:15 AM

Jimmy Reed. Super cool delivery.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:49:35 AM
Always the smoothest
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:51:03 AM
Big Road Webster Taylor is a bit of a mystery. Why the yodeling? Jimmie Rodgers' influence? Was he white or black?
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:51:31 AM
His instrument is definitely a guitar to my ears but it sounds capoed...
-ᎷяMΔᏞᏨØИᎢΞNᎢ-💀 11:53:34 AM
This show needs four hours. I’m cry.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:54:49 AM
