@Steve - It's so sad. I just didn't realize how sick he was. I didn't know he'd had a kidney transplant. I saw him perform in the early 2000s in Philly and he blew me away

@Mark - Oh nice! Yeah, they have a pretty big tent out back for receptions and drinks. When we were there there were even free drinks in the tent and pretzels! But I can tell it's gotta be a popular destination for weddings and it WAS June when you were there, more popular wedding month, I believe, or at least one of the most popular

my recommendation for anyone in the area the Abington arts center concert series starts tonite & is free as well !

@Mark - The event was called "What is Lost in the River is Found in the River: An evening of Riverside Music" but the guy with the conch shell goes by Big Beautiful Man. He was accompanied by a guy on vibraphone who played in Glenside last night with Michelle Lordi plus a bassist professor from Princeton U Matthew Parrish. The Glen Foerd event began with an electronic set by a woman who I heard while I walked around the estate

This next part of this song is recited by poet Saul Williams and is so beautiful

@Mark - My husband was at the Michael Lordi show last night indoors due to the heat! She sang on one of my husband's songs

@Mark - I'd love to get to the Abington series, but I have to be very judicious with getting subs - I generally reserve them for travel, illness or emergencies. Such a bummer the AAC series is always Thursdays

I actually saw one of the annual, or common cicadas emerging from the ground while on a hike last week, up out of Brood X territory. Not sure the name of the ones that come out yearly,

I wouldn't sleep either if i were a periodic cicada. Would party like it's 2004.

@DSM I heard a couple of annual cicadas last weekend, in two different places.

@DSM but seeing one emerging from the ground is pretty neat

@DSM - yeah, I've been wondering for weeks what the regular annual cicadas are called. I should know by now but a quick google search didn't yield definitive results.

Makes the passing of Brood X a little easier. Not much tho

I’d only ever seen their shells before, so I was quite excited. They seem more elusive than BX

Most annual cicadas (at least in Maryland) are in the genus Neotibicen

The annual cicadas aren't as majestic and exciting, so perhaps they aren't magicicadas?

I saw the annual cicadas' shells stuck to tree trunks in my backyard in Jersey every summer growing up. I like the actual bugs more than their shed husks, still clinging to the trees

My old indoor-outdoor cat used to bring those Neotibicen cicadas (thanks for the term, rob!) into the kitchen from our yard and bat them around to his endless delight. I kept thinking they were finally dead and then they'd buzz again 5 minutes later and he'd descent upon them again - the perfect toy for holding a cat's interest I guess
