OMG, Sorry for the chaos everyone! My laptop crashed right before the show, then it wouldn't detect my mic!
Mary Jones 5:12:46 PM
But at least you haven’t lost power!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:00 PM
Hi Mary! Dear god, I'm having a tidal wave of tech problems suddenly! Thanks for tuning in!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:19 PM
I didn't even get to promote today's show properly with all the tech issues!
Lizbot (host) 5:14:33 PM
@MAry - Yeah, I am HOPING that doesn't happen too!
Mary Jones 5:14:55 PM
🤞
Steve Volaric 5:18:36 PM
RIP, Gift of Gab.
Lizbot (host) 5:20:43 PM
Hi Steve!
Lizbot (host) 5:21:38 PM
@Steve - It's so sad. I just didn't realize how sick he was. I didn't know he'd had a kidney transplant. I saw him perform in the early 2000s in Philly and he blew me away
Steve Volaric 5:23:35 PM
So sad to hear he passed. Too young.
Lizbot (host) 5:25:00 PM
@Steve - Only 50! So crazy.
Steve Volaric 5:27:20 PM
Totally. And DOOM too.
Lizbot (host) 5:28:28 PM
@Steve - I know! Just nuts. Both far too young! Mickey's been playing loads of MF Doom on The Sprawl these past few months
Steve Volaric 5:30:02 PM
I’ve noticed there’s been a bit more hip hop on the station lately, in general. ❤️
Lizbot (host) 5:31:16 PM
@Steve - Good! I love playing Blazing Arrow album in particular. I like to see who picks up the "The Point" sample in the title track! Such a great use of that Nilsson track
Mark 5:32:03 PM
hi lizbot / glad ur over today’s tech issues:)
Steve Volaric 5:32:49 PM
Love that one!
Lizbot (host) 5:33:00 PM
Hi Mark - Oh my god, today has been ridiculous. Internet connection issues, followed by laptop issues. Then Mixxx wouldn't detect my mic and I restarted several times. oof.
Mark 5:33:12 PM
& hope I get to listen to mickey next week his milestone 500 show promises to b great :)
Mark 5:33:34 PM
*You !
Louis F. Caruso 5:33:39 PM
Great album
Lizbot (host) 5:34:17 PM
@Mark - Yes! I love The Sprawl and I normally don't get to hear much of it because I'm always prepping for my show then, but hopefully I can catch a decent amount of his 500th episode!
Lizbot (host) 5:34:27 PM
Hi Louis - Yes! Such a classic
Mark 5:34:48 PM
haha we listeners come to expect tech issues when it gets so ominously dark outside like today !
Alan Pasnyk 5:37:11 PM
Hi Lizbot! Was just waiting for the smoke to clear with u r tech issues to say hi!!
Lizbot (host) 5:37:56 PM
@Mark - Too true, between the heatwave, AC/transmitter overheating issues AND the storms, it's DICEY
Lizbot (host) 5:38:02 PM
Hi Alan!
Mark 5:38:21 PM
i went by glen foerd last weekend becuz of ur mention / didn’t get very far inside to visit as there was a wedding going on
Lizbot (host) 5:38:24 PM
@Alan - Currently, things are working over here! [fingers crossed]
Alan Pasnyk 5:39:01 PM
Dicey but NO commercials... I'll take it!
Mark 5:39:41 PM
was there music event when u visited ?
Lizbot (host) 5:39:45 PM
@Mark - Oh nice! Yeah, they have a pretty big tent out back for receptions and drinks. When we were there there were even free drinks in the tent and pretzels! But I can tell it's gotta be a popular destination for weddings and it WAS June when you were there, more popular wedding month, I believe, or at least one of the most popular
Lizbot (host) 5:40:04 PM
@Alan - Yeah! WORTH it!
Mark 5:41:00 PM
it looked beautiful & i can’t wait to roam the ground and mansion Thanks for mentioning it
Lizbot (host) 5:41:37 PM
@Mark - Big Beautiful Man is the name of the artist. The show was booked by my friend Eugene who works in the UPenn Music Dept and runs a Penn-sponsored org called MUSICA PRACTICA / ELETTRONICA VIVA
Mark 5:42:35 PM
wow !! I have to look that org up now !
Lizbot (host) 5:43:46 PM
Mark - https://web.sas.upenn.edu/electronicmusic/
Alan Pasnyk 5:44:22 PM
@ Mark, (AKA fellow stargazer) It's lookin' good for the summer Perseid meteor shower..moon at thin crescent with Venus in west, August 11, 12, maybe 13.... Get the blankets and mosquito repellent ready!
Mark 5:45:34 PM
haha thanks. to both for the heads up & links :) !!
Mark 5:46:48 PM
my recommendation for anyone in the area the Abington arts center concert series starts tonite & is free as well !
Lizbot (host) 5:48:06 PM
@Mark - The event was called "What is Lost in the River is Found in the River: An evening of Riverside Music" but the guy with the conch shell goes by Big Beautiful Man. He was accompanied by a guy on vibraphone who played in Glenside last night with Michelle Lordi plus a bassist professor from Princeton U Matthew Parrish. The Glen Foerd event began with an electronic set by a woman who I heard while I walked around the estate
Lizbot (host) 5:50:03 PM
This next part of this song is recited by poet Saul Williams and is so beautiful
Mark 5:50:14 PM
yes ! i go to Michelle’s shows in glenside & have gotten to know matthew playing w her she actually curates the AAC concert series too :)
Mark 5:51:11 PM
man i wish i had known about that glen foerd event !
Lizbot (host) 5:53:27 PM
@Mark - My husband was at the Michael Lordi show last night indoors due to the heat! She sang on one of my husband's songs
Mark 5:56:07 PM
darn missed that one too / she is the last show
Mark 5:57:02 PM
at the aac series maybe you could get a fill in & could go !
Lizbot (host) 5:59:33 PM
@Mark - I'd love to get to the Abington series, but I have to be very judicious with getting subs - I generally reserve them for travel, illness or emergencies. Such a bummer the AAC series is always Thursdays
Lizbot (host) 6:02:36 PM
This will be the final song in the Gift of Gab tribute
Mark 6:04:29 PM
oh i understand I’ll prob check in to chat from aac in a little while
Lizbot (host) 6:05:27 PM
@Mark - Is it happening tonight? Too rainy! I guess they move it inside?? I don't know what their protocol is for rainy nights since I never get to go
Mark 6:10:43 PM
yes it’s advertised rain or shine there is a pavilion that’s not the stage area so I’m thinking they will play there if it’s raining
Mark 6:12:36 PM
& great tribute as only the PRB dj’s can do !!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:17 PM
@Mark - ah, makes sense!
Lizbot (host) 6:13:46 PM
@Mark - Thanks! I wish I'd had more time to promote this tribute but tech issues had me scrambling
Lizbot (host) 6:14:45 PM
@Mark - Hattie has taken art classes at AAC a bunch of times and she has some unscheduled time in mid-august, so I might be signing her up for a week or two of classes
Brian D 6:15:33 PM
Blackalicious set was great Liz
Joe Moore 6:19:20 PM

Lizbot (host) 6:22:08 PM
Hi Joe Moore - Thank you, I felt so bad about GoG's passing
Lizbot (host) 6:22:57 PM
Hi Brian! Thank you! now playing a couple of new release songs about rain though the sky is clearing slightly where I am
Lizbot (host) 6:34:16 PM
This one's for Alan, resident stargazer / listener!
Alan Pasnyk 6:45:59 PM
@ Lizbot: Thank You!!!
Lizbot (host) 6:49:09 PM
@Alan - haha, no problem! It occurred to me as I played it how appropriate it is for your stargazing! This song now is too, a bit!
Alan Pasnyk 6:55:22 PM
@ Lizbot Last night I was listening to "Moon Duo" a CD that I got from WPRB Fundraiser on Readie's Show, Finally the battery went dead and the little window on the player showed ..."Noo" which was part of "Moon" upside down!!!
Kristin Belz 6:55:29 PM

Christine 🛰 7:06:12 PM
Hello Alan, Rob, Kristin, Mark, Brian, Joe, et al 👋
Lizbot (host) 7:06:18 PM
So long, cicada. That needs to be a song
Rob from Maryland 7:06:28 PM
Hi Christine, Liz, and everyone
Rob from Maryland 7:07:28 PM
I'm already scheming to go to North Carolina in 2024 to catch the Magicicadas there
Lizbot (host) 7:07:29 PM
I hope everyone remained relatively dry on this crazy stormy day. How is the weather right now in Maryland, Rob?
Lizbot (host) 7:08:02 PM
Band name Magicicadas is a MUST. Seems like it'd be a psych band with constant cicada drone underneath
Rob from Maryland 7:09:02 PM
Lizbot, I got a quick 1/2 inch of rain. Gusty winds dimmed the lights and knocked out my internet for a couple of minutes. There was a tornado warning for the Annapolis area
Alan Pasnyk 7:09:53 PM
Hi Christine! Hope y'all know about the Perseids in August... Maybe good show to come!
Mark 7:10:21 PM
hey everyone the AAC concert is still about to go on / it got moved into the gallery area if anyone is near by :)
Christine 🛰 7:11:05 PM
@Mark, that's good. The roofed pavilion area at AAC is a good fallback for nights like these.
Rob from Maryland 7:11:54 PM
Marquee Moon never gets old
Christine 🛰 7:12:05 PM
@Alan, you're famous...Lizbot announced your name on the radio! I am looking forward to the Perseids next month 🌠
Rob from Maryland 7:12:19 PM
What is AAC?
Christine 🛰 7:12:44 PM
ARob, Abington Art Center near Jenkintown, PA.
Rob from Maryland 7:12:53 PM
Thanks, Christine
Christine 🛰 7:13:53 PM
They are kicking off their summer concert series tonight.
Lizbot (host) 7:16:30 PM
Have fun, Mark! I'm jealous! I love AAC's grounds and that little sculpture garden next to the building.
Lizbot (host) 7:17:13 PM
@Christine, haha, I realized I was playing a handful of star-gazer/moon tracks, so Alan naturally came to mind!
Lizbot (host) 7:17:45 PM
@Christine - Are you at the AAC show? Who's playing tonight?
Corage Mike 7:19:02 PM
Awesome. Zoe on song that I have not heard since packing the CDs away. Deep cut for sure.

@Lizbot, no, I'm not at Abington Art Center tonight. I don't want to miss Michelle Lordi's concert in August. Sadly, I will have to miss your show that Thursday. 😞
Christine 🛰 7:30:43 PM
Daniela Cotton is performing tonight at AAC. I bet the energy is 💯
Lizbot (host) 7:32:03 PM
@Christine - I sadly have to miss ALL the AAC shows because they're on Thursdays...I wish they'd change the night, at least for one summer!
Lizbot (host) 7:33:22 PM
@Christine - My husband and daughter have gone to a bunch of the AAC shows without me and since my husband usually sees Michelle Lordi shows, he'll probably be at that one in August...depending on if it's while we're on our New England road-trip...when is that one?
jimbeaux 7:36:03 PM

Christine 🛰 7:42:23 PM
Hi, DSM
DSM 7:44:10 PM
I actually saw one of the annual, or common cicadas emerging from the ground while on a hike last week, up out of Brood X territory. Not sure the name of the ones that come out yearly,
jimbeaux 7:44:31 PM
I wouldn't sleep either if i were a periodic cicada. Would party like it's 2004.
Rob from Maryland 7:45:26 PM
@DSM I heard a couple of annual cicadas last weekend, in two different places.
Rob from Maryland 7:46:42 PM
@DSM but seeing one emerging from the ground is pretty neat
Lizbot (host) 7:46:52 PM
@DSM - yeah, I've been wondering for weeks what the regular annual cicadas are called. I should know by now but a quick google search didn't yield definitive results.
DSM 7:47:07 PM
Makes the passing of Brood X a little easier. Not much tho
Lizbot (host) 7:47:21 PM
@ROb - Seeing them emerge from the ground feels a bit Night of the Living Dead
DSM 7:48:00 PM
I’d only ever seen their shells before, so I was quite excited. They seem more elusive than BX
Rob from Maryland 7:48:03 PM
Most annual cicadas (at least in Maryland) are in the genus Neotibicen
Lizbot (host) 7:48:15 PM
The annual cicadas aren't as majestic and exciting, so perhaps they aren't magicicadas?
Lizbot (host) 7:48:20 PM
Thanks, Rob!
Christine 🛰 7:48:35 PM
We need an entomologist in the chat!
Christine 🛰 7:48:50 PM

DSM 7:49:26 PM
Christine, I think Rob is close by now!
Lizbot (host) 7:49:30 PM
I saw the annual cicadas' shells stuck to tree trunks in my backyard in Jersey every summer growing up. I like the actual bugs more than their shed husks, still clinging to the trees
Rob from Maryland 7:50:32 PM
Annual cicada sounds here, scroll down to find them https://www.cicadamania.com/cicadas/cicada-songs-audio-sounds-noise/
Lizbot (host) 7:50:59 PM
My old indoor-outdoor cat used to bring those Neotibicen cicadas (thanks for the term, rob!) into the kitchen from our yard and bat them around to his endless delight. I kept thinking they were finally dead and then they'd buzz again 5 minutes later and he'd descent upon them again - the perfect toy for holding a cat's interest I guess
Lizbot (host) 7:51:15 PM
@Rob - Cool, thanks! I'll check it out post-show
Lizbot (host) 7:51:28 PM
@DSM - Yeah, I love Future Days!
Rob from Maryland 7:51:36 PM
Annual cicadas are boring cicadas since they aren't magicicicadas?
DSM 7:51:38 PM
Excellent resources Rob!
Lizbot (host) 7:52:31 PM
@Rob - EXACTLY. As Shania Twain would say, ""that don't impress me much"

Lizbot (host) 7:56:18 PM
@Rob - One zoomed onto my husband's red shirt in Princeton. I don't know if they actually see color, but I wonder if the red attracted him or it's just that there were so many dang cicadas in Princeton at the beginning of June that it was inevitable.
Rob from Maryland 7:56:30 PM
I'm digging the outdoor sounds on this Can track
Rob from Maryland 7:57:32 PM
@Lizbot, I don't know. I suspect that there are/were just so many dang cicadas that a dozen could end up landing on a person
Lizbot (host) 7:57:59 PM
@Rob - Yes, make $$$ writing that book with a interested potential buyers once every 17 years!
Lizbot (host) 7:58:22 PM
There actually was a nicely illustrated cicada children's picture book in Jazam's in June!

I imagine it’s good luck for a cicada to land on you, blessed really
Rob from Maryland 7:58:58 PM
@Lizbot, your friend does need to make that movie. And you could star in it.
