Dhafer bin Youssef bin Tahar Maarref was born on 19 November 1967 in Teboulba, Tunisia. His grandfather was a muezzin. He developed an interest in jazz at an early age and clandestinely listened to it during his education at a Qur'anic school. He calls the radio "the most important school" for him. He later left Tunisia to start a jazz career and has lived in Europe since 1990.

Dün came from Nantes in France, an instrumental sextet with a goal of uniting all types of prog. Dün were the bastard offspring of Frank Zappa and Magma, with a heavy dose of RIO sensibility. The result was a mix of Canterbury-, Zappa-, RIO-, Zeuhl- and symphonic prog. "Eros" was the group's only album, recorded in 1981 and self released, limited to 300 copies and sold only at their shows.

The Ed Palermo Big Band is a New York City-based ensemble that has been active since the late 70's, playing the compositions and arrangements of their leader, New Jersey born saxophonist Ed Palermo. The band is best known for Palermo's arrangements of the music of Zappa, but they also perform and record compositions by many others.

Mōggio was issued on Zappa's "Man From Utopia" LP in 1983.
