@Rob - I was on my way back from the shore. LBI was badly flooded when I left the island at 2:15. Lots of traffic. Made it to the middle of the Pineys when the hail started and the rain got so torrential, had to pull over, as did all the cars in front and behind me. Visibility was terrible! Was somewhat exciting though!

Vermont. Burlington and Stowe / Montpelier area. Stop in Woodstock NY for a night on way up... maybe on way back too . Found a nice b&b apartment in country out of town there. We have friend in VT for lodging there but.... probably find hotel or b&b. Gone are the days of couching it...

@Rob - I think it's more like I am down the shore for sometimes an open-ended chunk of a few days, and if the weather gets iffy, I leave. But so does everyone else, hence traffic.

@Brian D - Sounds great! Yeah, we will definitely be stopping in Burlington and probably eating dinner there

@Brian D - I used to think nothing of driving for 8 hours straight, and now I really am kinda stressed about it. My car is old! I think this might be it's final hurrah.

I really wanted to go to MassMOCA for Loud Weekend with Bang on a Can, but it overlaps with my kid's last two days of summer camp, and I'm not about to drive up to Mass, then back to PA, then back to Mass again in the span of two days!

The stopping @ Woodstock halfway point is p exactly my feeling to about straight 7 - 8 hr drives

So many possibilities. Plus my 12 year-old is really into taking deep dives into various bands at the moment, so we might be doing whole discographies of certain very influential bands

I love these guys. They've stayed at our house...two times now when touring from Chicago

Oh no!! used to play this track (Dream Police) EVERY MORNING after wakin up, It used to drive my younger brother nuts!

Alan - Yeah, you're probably right! Haha, the ONE time my parents bought a new car, someone in Maine on one of our family road trips when I was a teen smashed the rear of the car with a log on a logging road we had to pull over on to get to a trail!

And now the final cicada report... One lone cicada heard in Warrington Pa. and another in Plumsteadville, I think they are planning to make the next Brood even more spectacular!

Magicicada's Last Stand

I was listening to this Dustin Wong/Takako Minekawa stuff in my car during part of the hailstorm yesterday. This may as well be the sound of hail pelting my windshield

@Alan - Maybe the two final cicadas can arrange a final tryst at the Regal Warrington for a movie date night before they disappear

@DSM I've heard several annual cicadas in my area

@DSM - I forever associate those annual cicadas with this transformative experience I had lying on my back in a field near the community pool where I used to swim as a kid. The cicada sounds blended with an airplane overheard and an almost air raid siren sound and I have ALWAYS wanted to recreate that sound. I never got over it!

i saw them in Atlanta in 2007 and i was standing next to Jerry's parents. 😥

@DSM, they actually know how to navigate and fly ;-) unlike their bumbling periodical kin. I do see the annuals flying around, usually around the upper half of a tree

@DSM - Yeah, it's this intense formative memory. I don't know exactly how old I was but I'm guessing older than 7 and younger than 10. It honestly haunts me, in a good way! I think I've always chased that sound! Not as elusive, but there was also a dissonant and creepy piece that accompanied an early Sesame Street video about the manufacturing of I-beams that made a huge impression on my when I was 5 and I couldn't find it for years, but eventually someone put that on YouTube

@DSM - Yeah! No problem! I was so psyched when someone finally uploaded that, many years ago at this point. That was my exact reaction to it: frightened but intrigued. Sesame Street didn't shy away from some intense content for the toddlers back then!

Wow, I’m speechless! That was beautiful, can we TV back to that place? That was like an art piece! “Hey cow, I see you now 🎶” I love how the narrator is very sparse and they just let the song breathe, and the cows graze, and the cinematography is actually pretty good too!

@DSM - Srsly! We need more programs like was Sesame Street used to be! I happily still watch their really early episodes. Pretty innovative way out there animation and stop-motion techniques in so many of their episodes from back then as well!

@DSM- I've been going to small, so far entirely outdoor shows, though I might go to some indoor ones on the smaller side soonish

@DSM - Yeah, I so far have gone to a handful of smallish outdoor shows, and then I'm going to King Crimson with Zappa Band the day after Labor Day, and that will be a big crowd, but at least it's at the Mann, so also outdoors

Musica Practica Elettronica Viva show on the Delaware River at the Glen Foerd Estate with Manna Pourrezaei and Big Beautiful Man, one really small Korean percussion show in a park in Queen Village, and a few other little things like that with lots of air between other concert-goers. I only have tickets for one events that indoors and kinda crowded and I think I'm gonna have to skip it. It conflicts with something else anyway

I really gotta keep my eyes open for shows again, didn’t know King Crimson was playing! I bet there’s a bunch I’m unaware of

@DSM - it was rescheduled from June 16th, 2020, which was a Saturday night and my anniversary, so that would've been perfect. I had gotten tickets for that the moment it went on sale, which was of course pre-March 2020

@DSM - I love the Mann. It's a great venue, great vibe in the summer and fall, and I don't have to worry about being in a closed in space

I think i had Nick Cave tickets for the Mann which I wonder if I got refunded?! Forgot all about that!
