Arkham Eve's Eventful Day (Part 3)
Arkham Cuneiform 2002

Arkham are an early 70's prog band that featured keyboard player Jean-Luc Manderlier who would later join Magma, drummer Daniel Denis who would also move on to Magma as well as Univers Zero, and bassist Patrick Cogneaux. This all-instrumental trio (keyboards, bass and drums) never actually recorded any official album, although tapes of their many shows and rehearsals between 1970-72 resulted in the compilation of this CD, released in 2002. The sound is more Canterbury than proto-RIO.

Live (Remastered) Seventh records 1975

6121925171c85.jpg

Founded by Christian Vander in Paris, France in 1969, disbanded in 1983. Magma created its own influential subgenre of prog rock, called 'Zeuhl'. The band doesn't clearly fit in any other progressive subgenre, though avant-prog might be a good fit. "Zeuhl" is typified by swirling riffs in odd time signatures, theatrical choir arrangements (in their own made-up language), heavy and distorted pulsing bass guitar, bombastic and minimalistic (sometimes both at the same time), dark and brooding, adventurous and angelic, jazzy or classical. http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=11

WPRB listeners have all been conditioned to panic every time we hear this song; the signal that something has gone terribly wrong - again.

Out of bed a half hour ago and I must say this is perfect morning music. That last piece had me wondering if I was still in Dreamland

Nice Local 58 gif. Their videos are uniquely strange.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:33:34 AM
Good morning, Andy. Yes, Local 58 videos are a treat. The story arc they presented was indeed strange, and a bit disturbing.
Andy Wing 8:35:54 AM
Nice Michael Brook track. First heard him on Echoes in the 80's when they interviewed him. That infinite guitar technique is beautiful.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:37:50 AM
Yes, Andy, Michael Brook has a good amount of gorgeous music.
Kentman 8:40:02 AM
looking at all eight musicians of Magma they could be the Arkestra of prog rock
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:41:30 AM
Interesting observation, Kentman. Magma does have a similar otherworldly cultish image.
Andy Wing 8:45:25 AM
If you like Brook, you'll like Chas Smith's Santa Fe release. Very hypnotic guitar work, though probably more suited for Music With Space.
Christine 🦊 8:46:35 AM
Good morning Dave the Obscure & all the Abnormals 🌄
Kentman 8:48:03 AM
good morning DTO, are you keeping this time slot?

Brian D 8:53:27 AM
It's all happening at the Zeuhl
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:56:37 AM
It's kind of a long performance, over 30 minutes, 2 album sides. But worth hearing.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 8:57:12 AM
And young Didier Lockwood on violin, only 19 years old.
Christine 🦊 9:03:05 AM
Impressive. Didier Lockwood was so young, and already so accomplished. 🎻
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:05:34 AM
Indeed. There a great story about how Stéphane Grappelli gave his violin to Jean Luc Ponty, who then passed it on to Didier Lockwood.
Christine 🦊 9:07:40 AM
I love that: passing the torch. I hope that story is true.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:14:48 AM
It's actually an even better story. https://luisdias.wordpress.com/2018/03/04/adieu-didier-lockwood-1956-2018/
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:15:46 AM
Violinist Michel Maurice Armand Warlop gave his violin to Grappelli first. And then it was passed down. 🎻
Christine 🦊 9:21:25 AM
Thanks for the link. That's even more amazing. Maurice Armand Warlop > Stéphane Grappelli > Jean-Luc Ponty > Didier Lockwood 🌠
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:22:57 AM
Not sure if Didier Lockwood managed to pass it along. His death was unexpected.
Andy Wing 9:23:54 AM

We are Pavlov's dogs: our anxiety spike every time we hear that beat.
Christine 🦊 9:28:47 AM
Bud....! *shakes fist*
Brian D 9:29:26 AM
I am a strange one... i love that sound of that band. True, the repetition / loop is annoying but i have been tortured by some bad hold music. Calypso Kings Finnish Funk is pretty good choice
Brian D 9:30:55 AM
Ever call FedEx, UPS or USPS.... They make you beg for Finns imitating the Meters
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:31:14 AM
Given the awful options, Calypso Kings can be tolerated. But we have been negatively conditioned by that tune...
Brian D 9:31:42 AM
I vote to reclaim as you did there
Christine 🦊 9:32:15 AM
That song is forever polluted. Sorry, song.
Kentman 9:33:35 AM
to be tortured by music, didn't they do that at Guantanamo, or Abu ghraib?
Ookla the Mok 9:34:17 AM
was that on the lockdown playlist?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:34:23 AM
Yup. And I think at Manuel Noriega hiding in an embassy.
Brian D 9:34:28 AM

Beautifully done, Dave! I realized that you were messing with us as soon as I heard it.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:35:39 AM

Brian D 9:35:51 AM
I think they used Metallica and Van Hagar on Noriega
Bud Burroughs 9:36:30 AM
Now you've got to randomly cut it into the middle of a song! Or maybe that's too cruel...
Andy Wing 9:36:58 AM
I thought Metal Machine Music was the CIAs personal choice?
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ (host) 9:38:44 AM
