Apparently said friend played it for a pal who "hates jazz" (which I guess is a thing).

No way. Never knew about this connection, but when listening to that Miles Davis track just now it did sound familiar to something, but couldn't place it.

I use olive oil, madeira and soy sauce. Add some sliced lemon, scallions and turmeric.

I have the answer: Olive oil, some butter and honey!

Lemon was also part of this dish.
