Arkham Eve's Eventful Day (Part 3)
Arkham Cuneiform 2002
Arkham are an early 70's prog band that featured keyboard player Jean-Luc Manderlier who would later join Magma, drummer Daniel Denis who would also move on to Magma as well as Univers Zero, and bassist Patrick Cogneaux. This all-instrumental trio (keyboards, bass and drums) never actually recorded any official album, although tapes of their many shows and rehearsals between 1970-72 resulted in the compilation of this CD, released in 2002. The sound is more Canterbury than proto-RIO.
Egg Wring out the Ground Loosely Now
The Civil Surface Virgin 1974
Band formed in 1969 by Dave Stewart (organ), Mont Campbell(bass/vocals) and Clive Brooks (drums), after the disbanding of their previous band Uriel when Steve Hillage left for college.
For reasons I don't understand, Uriel's recordings were later issued under the name Arzachel.

Magma Köhntark (Live 1975) [Remastered]
Live (Remastered) Seventh records 1975
Founded by Christian Vander in Paris, France in 1969, disbanded in 1983. Magma created its own influential subgenre of prog rock, called 'Zeuhl'. The band doesn't clearly fit in any other progressive subgenre, though avant-prog might be a good fit. "Zeuhl" is typified by swirling riffs in odd time signatures, theatrical choir arrangements (in their own made-up language), heavy and distorted pulsing bass guitar, bombastic and minimalistic (sometimes both at the same time), dark and brooding, adventurous and angelic, jazzy or classical. http://www.progarchives.com/subgenre.asp?style=11

Morrocan Roll Charisma Catalogue 1977
Founded in London, England in 1975, hiatus from 1980-1992, disbanded in 1999. Brand X is one the most well-known British groups of the seventies jazz/rock fusion scene. The original line-up of the band was formed by drummer Phil Collins of Genesis with John Goodsall (formerly of Atomic Rooster) on guitar, Robin Lumley on keyboards and Percy Jones on bass.

Electric Masada Lilin
At the Mountain of Madness - Live In Europe Tzadik 2005
Electric Masada is one of John Zorn's more recent Masada units, a true downtown supergroup formed in the mid 2000's to combine raw power and manic speed, an improvisational edge and lyricism. One of the most astonishing ensembles led by Zorn in this period.
Calypso King & The Soul Investigators Ma-Gee
Soul Strike! Soul Fire 2001
WPRB listeners have all been conditioned to panic every time we hear this song; the signal that something has gone terribly wrong - again.
So I thought I'd use the song as the foundation for a mashup, attempting to undo some of that negative conditioning. (And, I'll admit, also to jolt you all a little bit. 😉)
