Steve Vai (born 6 June 1960) studied master classes under Joe Satriani, and was a student of the Berklee School of Music. Vai later was invited to join Frank Zappa's band by Zappa himself. (He transcribed Zappa guitar solos and sent them to Zappa as a sort of 'application'.) Zappa referred to him as a "Stunt Guitarist", because of Vai's technical skill and odd sounds he produced.
