I knew about the no- Frisco rule when I visited. The taxi driver when we first arrived said "Welcome to San Fran" though. He had been there a while. I hear "The City" is preferred

The Hal Ashby documentary Esoterica is hosting on Tuesday looks interesting. I attended a screening of his first feature “The Landlord” a few years ago at the Stephen Crane House in Asbury Park. I wish there was a way for me to see the last thing he directed, a rejected pilot for a British TV series called “Jake’s Journey”. It was written by Monty Python’s Graham Chapman, which is promising; although Chapman also wrote “Yellowbeard” which was inexplicably one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen.

The Charlatans are one of my favorite bands to hail from San Francisco. At Rockefeller Center in the Nineties, I saw a documentary with them in it called “The Life and Times of the Red Dog Saloon” (retitled for home video as “Rockin' at the Red Dog: The Dawn of Psychedelic Rock”).
