Another Side is out November 19 via Light in the Attic. Nocentelli has shared “Thinking of the Day” from the record with the news. Listen to it and see the tracklist below. Allen Toussaint appears on Another Side, as do the Meters’ George Porter Jr. and Zigaboo Modeliste. According to a press release about the project, Nocentelli recorded the album in the early 1970s but shelved it as the Meters grew in popularity. Its tapes, which were stored at Allen Toussaint’s Sea-Saint Studios, were thought lost for good after Hurricane Katrina destroyed the facility. They were rediscovered by a record collector at California swap meet in 2018. A cover of Elton John’s “Your Song” appears alongside Nocentelli’s original material on Another Side.

I first discovered Jesus Lizard at New Brunswick’s Court Tavern. They graciously returned to NJ to play at conveniently visitable venues like Long Branch’s Cafe Bar and Asbury Park’s Fast Lane.

I remember one night when I forewent seeing Jesus Lizard at Maxwell’s in order to see Destroy All Bands at a local watering hole. I’d already seen the former a few times so what would it hurt to support my favorite New Brunswick group this one time? I later learned the other group on that Maxwell’s bill was Nirvana.

David feel your pain on the Nirvana miss, I once skipped going to see them at JC Dobbs because it was a rainy weeknight. Two weeks later they were bigger than god. Friends who went to the show played poker with them in the dressing room that night

One of those bands that really gave the audience a Show with capital S. The Tubes. Like a circus , freak show, carnival barker etc. Good time. Saw them at a couple of those huge JFK Stadium multi band concerts back in the 80s. Lots of fun

Another chapter for the Brian D Memoir!

I first saw Redd Kross at Maxwell’s on New Year’s Eve 1989. They opened their set with Harry Nilsson’s “Can’t Live”. The next time I saw them there, they opened with the Beatles’ “It Won’t Be Long”. I remember driving all the way to New Brunswick’s Cheap Thrills store so I could make daily rentals of their VHS cassettes of “Desperate Teenage Lovedolls” and “Lovedolls Superstar”.
