Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:08:58 AM

Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:11:08 AM

Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:12:12 AM

Sonny Boy III (host) 10:12:49 AM

Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:16:09 AM
Do you have old 78 rpms there?
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:16:25 AM

Sonny Boy III (host) 10:16:40 AM

Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:16:51 AM
Lol
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:17:29 AM

Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:18:17 AM

Sonny Boy III (host) 10:19:55 AM
There might be an old machine here somewhere...
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:20:05 AM
Hahahahahaha
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:21:20 AM
I used to have an 8 track deck up until the later 90s but it broke on me.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:22:35 AM
Those metal splitters used to let go and I'd end up breaking into the cartridge to fix them at the kitchen table.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:23:04 AM
sounds like a pain... can see why the format wasn't around for long
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:24:04 AM
Yeah you are right. It was a nuisance trying to repair them.
Corage Mike 10:26:25 AM
Sun is shining in my back door today. Thanks for the tunes.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:26:53 AM
Hi Mike
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:28:15 AM

Christine 🦊 10:46:39 AM
Morning, Sonny Boy Williamson the 3rd, Vaughn, Mike & all 👋
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:47:08 AM
Good morning Christine
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:48:26 AM
Morning!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:49:07 AM
@Christine Isn't it neat hearing all these old records.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:53:35 AM
Homer Quincy Smith was in the The Southernaires.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:55:49 AM
hm... are you sure it's the same homer smith?
Christine 🦊 10:56:04 AM
@Vaughn, I love to hear the old vinyl, country blues especially.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:57:43 AM
Homer Quincy Smith (December 2, 1902, Florence, Alabama, USA) was founder and first tenor of The Southernaires. Formed in 1929, the Southernaires were a black gospel vocal quartet that found success via the radio, without making much of an impact in the area of phonograph record sales.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:58:35 AM
very cool! where'd you find that? my liner notes list him as of unknown identity
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:59:05 AM
@Christine you are correct. Sounds so good.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:00:25 AM
I typed in his name on Google & it came up. But I remember hearing him before today & knew his name.
Joe Rathbone 11:00:42 AM
love the blues fiddle ...
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:00:50 AM
Hi Joe
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:03:24 AM
Love the Carter Family.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:04:55 AM
Sonny Boy do you have Bessie Smith?
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:06:04 AM
for sure
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:06:24 AM
Thnx
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:10:28 AM
Spooky
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:10:45 AM
👻 🎃
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:11:29 AM
I've noticed that so many spooky novelty records from this period feature the same intro. Duh-duh-duh-nuh-nuuuuuuh-nuuuuuuh. I wonder what the origin is.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:11:51 AM
Yes same here
Christine 🦊 11:18:25 AM
This sure is one liquored-up song.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:19:31 AM

Sonny Boy III (host) 11:21:55 AM
No doubt! Plenty to be blue about in the news these days. And all days I suppose.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:22:22 AM
Indeed you are correct my friend.

Joe Rathbone 11:31:31 AM
Never heard Muddy any better than this vocal track .. going to falsetto land .. what treat !
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:32:07 AM
he sounds great and so does the band
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:32:37 AM
Another excellent playlist, SBW IIIrd! How cool a song "Women Be Wise" by Sippie Wallace -- and with Bonnie Rait! And at the 1972 Ann Arbor Blues & Jazz Festival! Don't get any better than that ... :-))
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:33:12 AM
The double lp set is excellent -- a recent discovery in our stacks right here at WPRB studios
Joe Rathbone 11:33:19 AM
yeah SBW III.. the band ain't band either
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:35:18 AM
WHOA !!! And Muddy Waters throwing in that fast vocal pitch modulation to go along with "bees buzzin' ..."
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:35:38 AM
well that's vinyl for you a little skip on "driving sideways"
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:36:07 AM
... I'll post again when (or if) I recover ... ;-))
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:38:16 AM
Is that John Mcvie who would join Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac?
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:38:57 AM
I think Mick Taylor ended up in the Stones
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:40:03 AM
Dave VanRonk did Garden State Stomp to.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:40:27 AM
Right all around Vaughn
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:40:52 AM
Jackson Browne covered this
Shane Navoy 11:41:09 AM
Hi there, SBW3... good morning chatroom peeps. I am enjoying the show. -- SBW3, a short bit ago you were writing about the "spooky cue". My guess would be it is a musical cue leftover from silent films and the organ accompanist days. (I am not old enough to first hand know this, though).
Christine 🦊 11:42:03 AM
This is one cranked-up song.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:42:12 AM
Indeed, indeed Christine
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:42:25 AM
Good thought Shane!
Christine 🦊 11:42:40 AM
Drugs are bad, kids. 💉 🚫
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:42:45 AM
that makes sense to me -- probably made it into some early sound-synced cartoons too
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:43:01 AM
In Garden State Stomp he names all these towns in New Jersey and makes them flow together perfectly.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:43:20 AM
"Any views expressed by the artists do not reflect the perspective of the host" standard disclaimer
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:43:41 AM
Yes @Vaugh I've played it on the show. Sadly princeton don't make the cut as I recall
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:43:57 AM
Lol uh oh
Jim Floyd 11:44:14 AM
early in his life the recently deceased jazz historian Phil Schaap knew Rev. Davis as neighbors in Hollis Park, Queens
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:44:40 AM
@ Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz Yep, "Garden Stater Stomp" is WONDERFUL! Using all those true New Jersey town names ... many of which were Leni Lenape/Delaware first Americans place names. Van Ronk said he got the ideas while changing a tire on the shoulder of a busy NJ highway, looked up and saw a mileage sign that had 3 or 4 of such marvelous names. And as he pronounced them to himself while working on the tire change, he realized they made a mini-poem! ;-))
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:46:00 AM
@Richard That is such a cool story I never knew that.
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:46:26 AM
@ Jim Floyd Hi Jim! Thanks for that, I didn't know Rev. Gary Davis had lived in Queens. Do you know about when that was?
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:46:43 AM
I may have been wrong about Harlem.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:47:59 AM
I seen Dave Van Ronk play one time.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:49:03 AM
Was at Philadelphia Folk Fest in the 90s I think.
Jim Floyd 11:49:19 AM
Rev. Davis may have been in Harlem later? But Phil knew him when he was growing up, so in the 1950s-60s? And I happened to note that Davis was born in Laurens, SC, about the same time and place as my grandmother.
Jim Floyd 11:50:44 AM
Phil also personally knew a lot of famous jazz musicians who lived in Hollis back then.
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:51:10 AM
@ Jim Floyd Hmmm, very interesting on both, thanks.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:52:52 AM
Yeah such great stories & memories & you learn so much on here. Very cool.
Christine 🦊 11:54:23 AM
Bonsoir, Mr. Chenier.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 11:58:23 AM
Hold onto your hats today folks..... Windy and 57°F out there.
Christine 🦊 11:58:26 AM
