Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:03:23 AM
Good morning to you
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:06:36 AM
and to you too!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:07:48 AM
I need my weekly dose of Jelly Roll. 😊
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:09:40 AM
I'll see what I can do!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:10:30 AM
Thankyou my friend.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:22:01 AM
Thnx for playing R.L. Burnside. I love his sound. He is great.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:22:48 AM
my pleasure!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:24:30 AM
Wow! Howlin' Wolf. One of my favorites.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:31:32 AM
Sonny boy did you ever hear Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee?
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:35:44 AM
I've heard their records yes!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:36:05 AM
Do you have any there?
David Shortell 10:41:04 AM
R.L. Burnside sang the Sopranos theme, right? I just looked through some old concert calendars to find out if I’ve ever seen him. Close, but not quite. At Maxwell’s in 1999, I saw the “Fat Possum Juke Joint Caravan” which featured T-Model Ford, Paul “Wine” Jones and Robert Belfour.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:44:45 AM
Can't claim to know anything about the Sopranos. Must have been cool to see those musicians!
Corage Mike 10:44:48 AM
Thanks for the tunes again. And I kept on walkin, suns gonna shine in my back door someday.
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:45:22 AM
Keep on walkin! Thanks Mike.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:46:36 AM
The Sopranos theme song was done by a group called Alabama 3 I think.
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:48:27 AM
Love this Show Sonny Boy. So much great music. Thnx as always.
Jim Floyd 10:49:06 AM
Last week there was a mention of Rev. Gary Davis and Harlem, and I forgot to add that he had an album "Harlem Street Singer", which may have been some of the association. Just read that he died in Hammonton, southern central NJ. (there is not too much there)
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:52:29 AM
I think I had read that... somewhere down in the barrens?
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:53:07 AM
Is this Mississippi Fred McDowell?
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:53:21 AM
T'was!
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:53:38 AM
Nice
Vaughn Skywatcher Heintz 10:53:48 AM
I thought so.
David Shortell 10:56:37 AM
At first I thought I saw a typo in that Howlin’ Wolf song title, but I read that after Chess Records put out “Moanin’ At Midnight”, Wolf rerecorded it for RPM Records. Those tricky bastards changed the title!
Richard from Rocky Hill 10:57:19 AM
Hi SBW IIIrd! I've been lurkin' and enjoyin' your latest playlist. And this track "Bad Love" by Luther Allison is A KILLER!!!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:57:36 AM
thanks Richard!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:57:45 AM
Ah so that explains it!
Sonny Boy III (host) 10:57:59 AM
About "Mornin' at Midnight"
Jim Floyd 10:58:38 AM
Hammonton has many blueberry farms and is within the NJ Pinelands National Reserve
Brian D 10:59:29 AM
Yeah Sopranos theme is Alabama 3, an English band . RL Burnside "It's Bad You Know" is on at least 1 episode. I started my 3rd time binge on all the episodes recently! Some great music.
Brian D 11:00:55 AM
Hammonton is "blueberry country" of NJ
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:03:16 AM
I was totally gob-smacked by Luther Allison's "Bad Love" ... Oh my ...
Brian D 11:04:14 AM
No record too scratchy! Good words.
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:06:01 AM
@Jim Floyd Hey there! It's an honor for N.J. to be the last home to Rev. Gary Davis. Does anyone know what brought him to Hammonton? Did he have family there (like an adult daughter or son)?
Christine 🦊 11:07:48 AM
Ooh, this Dinah Washington track is bound to be good... 😈
Christine 🦊 11:08:58 AM
Morning, SBW the 3rd 🎃 hey, gang!
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:10:21 AM
Morning Christine!
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:12:41 AM
@Richard I'd be curious to know too
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:12:48 AM
Is there a biography of him?

Jim Floyd 11:16:19 AM
here ya go......In 1968 Davis bought a house in Jamaica, Queens. He continued to perform locally in the New York and New Jersey area. On May 5, 1972, he suffered a heart attack while on the way to a performance in Newtonville, New Jersey. He died at William Kessler Memorial Hospital in Hammonton, New Jersey and is buried in Rockville Cemetery in Lynbrook, New York.

NINA SIMONE 💟
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:20:39 AM
SBW IIIrd, in keeping with your "blues for Hallowe'en" theme, it's appropriate to remind all that in the early 1930s Cab Calloway, the greatest performer & big band leader to ever fill out a zoot suit, appeared -- not only his voice & band, but his signature dance moves on-screen via rotoscoping -- in three Betty Boop cartoons produced by the Fleischer studios. Wonderfully creepy, with casts of dancin' skeletons, soaring ghosts and even uncanny walruses (found easily on YouTube).
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:21:38 AM
I've talked about these cartoons over the years -- they're favorites of mine
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:22:10 AM
@Jim Floyd , Okay, thanks for the Gary Davis info. So the man died on the road, still touring ...
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:22:55 AM
@Richard there's been going around the internet an artist who recreated on of the animations with a series of 76 cartoons
Jim Floyd 11:23:03 AM
also, years ago Woody Mann gave me the video he did on Rev. Davis (https://www.harlemstreetsinger.com/), but I have not looked at it in a long time
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:23:05 AM
*tattoos I mean https://www.tiktok.com/@philberge/video/7007468444933180677?lang=en
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:25:15 AM
@Sonny Boy III Yes, I know you've highlighted the Cab Calloway-Betty Boop cartoons over the years, thanks. I encourage any Blues Off The Record fans to check them out if you've never seen them. Pretty amazing stuff ...
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:26:01 AM
Thanks Richard!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:26:13 AM
@Jim Floyd and Sonny Boy III Major thanks for those links.
Jim Floyd 11:30:50 AM
enjoy Richard.....
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:35:35 AM
@Sonny Boy III WOW that TikTok link of the Fleischer animations recreated as a montage of tattoos ... !!! You can see why some experts on African-American dance laud Calloway's footwork as the direct granddaddy of Michael Jackson's "moonwalk" moves, James Brown's "camel walk" and other now-classic stage steps.

That's ZACHERLEY!!!! (as he spelled his TV persona name) My all-time favorite late-nite schlocky monster movie show host.
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:46:21 AM
And this Don Hinson track is a HOOT! Never heard it before ... Hallowe'en 2021 is officially game on! Thanks, SBW IIIrd.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:47:39 AM
:) happy halloween!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:49:18 AM
PS ... and SBW IIIrd, I'll leave it to you to explain to the loyal listenership the significance of the title of the Screamin' Jay Hawkins album Are You One of Jay's Kids? ... ;-))
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:51:49 AM
hahaha he apparently had so many the question could often fairly be asked
Corage Mike 11:57:37 AM
This one is good.
Sonny Boy III (host) 11:58:01 AM
I'm gonna start me a graveyard of my own!
Richard from Rocky Hill 11:58:54 AM
And it's my understanding there was, at least for a while, a website that posted Jay's old touring schedules so you could see if he was in your town 9 months before your birth. Seriously! I don't know if it's still active, didn't find it via a very quick web search ...
Brian D 11:59:38 AM
See you next time!
Sonny Boy III (host) 12:00:02 PM
hahahaha
Sonny Boy III (host) 12:00:10 PM
thanks everyone!
