Good Morning from Sangeet
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:05:46 AM
Is there any particular reason why Raga Madhyamavati is chosen as a concluding raga in Carnatic concerts?
Sangeet Team (host) 9:09:52 AM
Hi D the Obscure, good morning. There are a few ragas that are considered auspicious or mangala ragas (tradition). Some of them are: Madhyamavati, Suruti, Manirang, Sowrashtram. After a concert is done, it is customary to thank the powers that be for having made the concert possible. An auspicious raga is chosen for this. Don't know who started this
the_dude 9:14:06 AM
Very interesting! And good morning everyone
Sangeet Team (host) 9:15:00 AM
Hi The dude, good morning to you. Thanks for being there in the chat room
the_dude 9:19:01 AM
Thanks, glad to be here, always learning in the chat, I only wish work wasn't always in the way!
Sangeet Team (host) 9:20:38 AM
@the dude, isn't that always true! Work in the way of tranquil enjoyment of life LOL

the_dude 9:33:14 AM
Too true! At least I get to listen to wprb while I work so it's not so bad - brings a little tranquility to it
Sangeet Team (host) 9:35:53 AM
Nothing like music
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:48:44 AM
Some of your selections sound like they were taken from vintage 78 rpm discs.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:49:35 AM
No CDs available, where sound has been digitally improved
Sangeet Team (host) 9:53:02 AM
Why don't they re-release the music of the past generations in digital format? They are a treasure
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 9:56:08 AM
SaReGaMa has made an effort, but only a small portion of artists have had some of their old recordings digitized. Mostly those artists that might reliably sell, like Abdul Karim Khan.
Sangeet Team (host) 9:57:41 AM
@Obscure: I forgot the commercial aspect of it
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:04:04 AM
Somehow the process of obtaining, physically and digitally cleaning needs to be funded.
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:07:15 AM
There are a few people making an effort. It's mainly a labor of love, with no expectation of riches. http://www.sublimefrequencies.com/products/576327-book-2cd-indian-talking-machine-78rpm-and-gramophone-collecting-on-the-sub-continent
Sangeet Team (host) 10:09:07 AM
One person, Vikram Sampath, has undertaken this task. More NGO's should support him
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:09:14 AM
Is Vikram Sampath making the results available anywhere?
Sangeet Team (host) 10:10:15 AM
Yes. Soundwave? I have to check the exact name. India Archival Music

zeuhlbeaux 10:42:17 AM
I adopted "zeuhlbeaux" after Dave's zeuhl show yesterday!
Sangeet Team (host) 10:44:10 AM
@Obscure: you have such sway over listeners😂
ǝɹnɔsqꓳ ǝɥꓕ ǝʌɐꓷ 10:44:28 AM
"listener".
Sangeet Team (host) 10:45:47 AM
@Obscure: Wait, it is just the beginning
Sangeet Team (host) 11:17:50 AM
This singer died when she was only 31. What a loss to music! An accident in the kitchen. In the past, before natural gas became available, a kerosene stove was a common source of heat for cooking in the kitchen. This was notorious for exploding, if not properly and carefully handled
Sangeet Team (host) 11:58:15 AM
Thank you, D the Obscure, the Dude, Corage and Zeuhlbeaux and all others out there in WPRB space listening to Sangeet. We will be back on the air next Saturday at 9 am. Have a nice week. This is Ramaprasad signing off
