Happy Thanksgiving Eve!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:01:58 PM
Sorry to learn we lost Paul from Detention recently. Had already been scheduled to re-air their session tonight but instead it will be broadcast as tribute.
Matthew Snopenhauer 5:05:19 PM
Where is that photo from? City Gardens?
Chris Mohr 5:06:32 PM

DSM 5:13:13 PM
22 East was the closest White Castle to us growing up.

Matthew Snopenhauer 5:18:21 PM
Sorry for my jab at Gen Z, totally uncalled for

Chris Mohr 5:20:18 PM

DSM 5:46:40 PM
Gonna watch the doc, perhaps even as soon as tomorrow evening. After the Sparks retrospective show yesterday, I'm quite excited. I've ignored them for some reason.
Mary Jones 5:46:54 PM
Omg, did you finally see the Sparks doc?
Jon Solomon (host) 5:47:29 PM
I did indeed finally watch the Sparks doc last Thursday, perfect post-booster activity.
Mary Jones 5:47:38 PM
Awesome.
Jon Solomon (host) 5:47:52 PM
DSM, I too didn't know a ton about Sparks beyond the basics. I'm no LizBot!
Jon Solomon (host) 5:48:14 PM
That show yesterday was perfect, shocked DJ Breezy hadn't watched the doc yet either!
Dennis Lingg 5:50:41 PM
I actually thought there were multiple bands called Sparks, who were one hit wonders and were annoyed there was another one hit wonder band also named Sparks.
Matthew Snopenhauer 5:53:35 PM
I've been to Sparks, Nevada
DSM 5:54:42 PM
I even went to my records and found I had a Sparks album that I don't think I ever even spun. I listened to it this morning and the whole album is fantastic tbh (pulling rabbits)
DSM 5:55:07 PM
Matthew, did you drink Sparks in Sparks while listening to Sparks?!
Matthew Snopenhauer 5:55:52 PM
There were some ladies of the night in Sparks
DSM 5:57:47 PM
Dear Endless Boogie, we the people of the WPRB chat have some notes...

@Dennis that is very you.

Randy Marthins 6:03:44 PM
Oh, let's not forget the connection between Sparks and RNR HOFer Jane Weidlin
Jon Solomon (host) 6:03:52 PM
She's the best!
Randy Marthins 6:04:36 PM

Mary Jones 6:08:25 PM
Love the new Sweeping Promises
Randy Marthins 6:09:24 PM
It starts at Emerald City and ends with "You think she was a stalker?"
Ambrose Hughes 6:09:55 PM
I second that Mary and that last track too.
Matthew Snopenhauer 6:10:03 PM

Jon Solomon (host) 6:10:26 PM
I listened to the new Sweeping Promises song in bed at like 7 am and it was a pretty excellent way to start whatever day it came out.
Mary Jones 6:10:50 PM
Hope it means a new album is coming
Jon Solomon (host) 6:11:09 PM
@Randy, I did indeed but I am not 100% sure I'd ever listened to the original Sparks rendition before.
Rofflestomp 6:11:18 PM
@Randy Marthins -- I saw the GoGo's open for the Police, and then at a local club in Philly the same night. They were better than expected.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:12:27 PM
Mary, I have it on decent authority there should be a new album in 2022.
Mary Jones 6:13:31 PM

@Rofflestomp the Liberty Bell racetrack show? Or Spectrum

Hey, Rob!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:17:57 PM
Hey, everyone!
Randy Marthins 6:18:59 PM
@jon Sweeping Promises sounds like a great running song
Jon Solomon (host) 6:19:20 PM
Yeah, their album has a bunch of motivating material
Rofflestomp 6:19:25 PM
Another Sparks related chat moment. This is becoming a recurring theme. Last time it was on Mike's Freeform Pathogen show. Maybe their star is rising again?
Maxwell Homans 6:21:12 PM
Anyone know where I can find the "ice bear" song by Jason Duerr?
Rofflestomp 6:21:14 PM
@Randy Marthins = Liberty Bell racetrack show.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:21:47 PM
Maxwell, that cover is on Soundcloud. Give me a moment and I should be able to dig up a link.

Another lovely Habibi Funk gem 💎
Jon Solomon (host) 6:25:36 PM
Yeah, this one's stellar to my ears.
Randy Marthins 6:26:48 PM
*MY* final Sparks comment - I knew who he was supposed to be when Paul McCartney slicked back his hair behind the keyboards on the "Coming Up" video
Rofflestomp 6:27:21 PM
Definitely sounds like the caravan band found a KORG in the desert.
Jon Solomon (host) 6:27:52 PM
That was one of my parts of the doc. I remember the video from when I was little but not all the people he was dressed as.
Randy Marthins 6:28:00 PM
"KORG" brings back memories
Christine 🦉 6:28:00 PM
I'm a little late, but DJ Breezy's Sparks-centric show yesterday morning was fantastic. She was doing the utmost to jam in as many tracks before 10 am, mixing down the volume of one and BAM into the next.
Mary Jones 6:28:53 PM
Man, I wish I’d heard DJ Breezy’s show.
Randy Marthins 6:29:16 PM
I only remember Ron Mael & Mick Fleetwood (or was that supposed to be John Bonham?)
Rofflestomp 6:29:43 PM
@Randy Marthins - I have an old KORG N5 from the '90's KORG always comes to mind... lol
Christine 🦉 6:30:09 PM
@Mary, I bet you would have loved it. You can check to see what it will be rebroadcast in the wee hours.
Mary Jones 6:30:31 PM
@Christine thanks for the idea!
Randy Marthins 6:31:42 PM
I'm a (retired) punk bass player; I know nothing of music tech - just count to four real fast & play loud LOL
Rofflestomp 6:32:51 PM
Punk disproved music theory long ago. No sins there.
Randy Marthins 6:34:01 PM
A guy I worked with AGES ago claimed he played keys for Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes, when they played in the 80s; it was KORG this, Roland that #pixoritdidnthappen
Jon Solomon (host) 6:34:30 PM
Between DJ Breezy and Dan's Turkey Jamboree I listened to a lot of WPRB yesterday.
Chris Mohr 6:35:24 PM
Speaking of punk and music theory, this week I got my copy of Damaged: Musicality and Race in Early American Punk by Evan Rapport!
Randy Marthins 6:35:35 PM
I've learned more Music Theory in ANY ONE Rick Beato video than I EVER used in my "career"
Jon Solomon (host) 6:35:46 PM
Oh wow. Enjoy, Chris!
Christine 🦉 6:36:01 PM
@Chris, that's great. I recently ordered mine. 📖
Randy Marthins 6:36:29 PM
@chrismohr where is LIKE button?
Mary Jones 6:37:34 PM
Is this Earthless?
Jon Solomon (host) 6:39:14 PM
It is indeed Earthess. Didn't realize Captain Ahab was also going to play them this week (or that they have a new album due out).
Mary Jones 6:39:33 PM
This sounds like if Paranoid-era Black Sabbath was a jam band but better. Loving it.
Rofflestomp 6:39:43 PM
I absolutely loved Beato's recent interview with Pat Metheny. Very, very good. If you have ever seen what he trained his own kid to do with ear training it's friggin mind blowing. Better than auditions I have seen at Paul Hall in Julliard!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:40:19 PM
Their new album is two songs. One is twice as long as the other and the short one is 20 minutes long. I'm sorry I know I said there would be no math.
Mary Jones 6:40:44 PM
Jon, I was an English major. I can’t do this high mathematics.
Rofflestomp 6:41:13 PM
Two songs on a album puts them at Yes level...lol
Jon Solomon (host) 6:41:15 PM
If one Earthless drummer is traveling at 180 beats per minute...
Mary Jones 6:41:36 PM

Rofflestomp 6:42:04 PM

Mary Jones 6:42:18 PM
Now you know why all Deth Elf songs have a questionable rhythm section.
Rofflestomp 6:43:50 PM
They actually teach CPR using the beat time to the Bee Gee's Stayin' alive...
Jon Solomon (host) 6:46:47 PM
Deth Elf songs are written in 1/1.

Happy day for ground birds that don't get caught. Howdy Eso!
Jon Solomon (host) 6:49:58 PM
Have two rival meatless roasts going up against each other tomorrow. Who will prevail? Time will tell!
Esoterica 6:50:23 PM
hey, roffle!
Randy Marthins 6:50:53 PM
In a classic punk rock move, my daughter is going to a HS alumni meetup, to TWO schools she didn't go to, converging at the same bar
Rofflestomp 6:51:43 PM
Meatless roasts? What the hell are those? We do this in America on Thanksgiving Day... Oh the humanities...
Brian D 6:52:55 PM
All 5 of my opposed ( but not in opposition) thumbs up for Earthless, Amendola-Berlin-Drozd, Endless Boogie, Sparks Doc, Eisbaaren ... I love that it is Sparks month these days. I had no idea how vast their net was cast. Great tunes. Re Go-Gos: don't look up readings about their fun tour hobby called "corner cleaners".
Jon Solomon (host) 6:53:07 PM
One's a Tofurky (doing it with a ginger glaze) and the other's a Field Roast. Gotta compliment all those roasted vegetables with Midyett Rub somehow...
Jon Solomon (host) 6:53:22 PM
Brian! Hey!
Randy Marthins 6:53:26 PM
Tofurkey = fake turkey; toficken = fake chicken; we don't mention fake duck
Jon Solomon (host) 6:55:16 PM
Yeah, wait until safe harbor for the fake duck.
Rofflestomp 6:55:36 PM
Well, I guess you can spice anything and fool me. Just tell me afterwords.
Christine 🦉 6:56:03 PM
Q: What's everybody's beverage of choice?
Rofflestomp 6:56:07 PM
Next will be rescue fake duck at the local pound.
Brian D 6:56:45 PM
6th and 8th thumbs up for Rick Beato. Just re-watched his What Makes Song Great on VH Jump (for the part where Rick does a little sit down dance when he isolates Eddie's keyboard lines under the gtr solo - Eddie getting his inner EDM on). And then I watched Rick on Oscar Peterson's "Best Solo Ever" ripping it up on the piano on the BBC in the 70s. Beato Rabbit Hole. When I was a guitar teacher a few yrs back those vids were so inspiring. Love Rick busting out his gear to play along to the songs
Dennis Lingg 6:56:45 PM
Fake 🦆 would be Fallard?
Randy Marthins 6:57:35 PM
Faux-llard
Randy Marthins 6:58:05 PM
Too far a reach?
Mary Jones 6:58:11 PM
Yes, definitely Bodega vibes
Rofflestomp 6:58:44 PM
@Brian D - Yup, he can break down tunes quite well, and he even throws up chord charts. He's great.
Mary Jones 6:59:01 PM
Actually, I’m curious about these meatless roasts and what their bases are.
Brian D 6:59:25 PM
Phyllo Camembert & cranberry bites for the appetizer. Then more Phyllo - Spanikopita for the headliner. Both courtesy of my pal Joe who is a Trader by trade. And co headliner homemade lentil soup. Phyllo Up! And you best say FEE-low y'all
Mary Jones 6:59:58 PM
Ooo, spanikopita. Haven’t had that for a while, I need to correct that.
Rofflestomp 7:01:07 PM
@Mary Jones - I assume the meatless roasts are assembling on a moon base, and obviously the invasion is already under way.
Brian D 7:02:37 PM
Mary, that and the TJs multi cheese Greek phyllo spiral are just heavenly.
Rofflestomp 7:03:37 PM
Destroyed at the hands of the demon Thammaron. That bastard!
Rob from Maryland 7:04:49 PM
Hey Jon, you mentioned Slumber Party just now. Which cd were they on again?
Christine 🦉 7:05:56 PM
That's value right there.
Rofflestomp 7:06:44 PM
Loving the Christmas show between naps since 2011.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:10:16 PM
There's a short video of them playing at WPRB in the playlist too.
Rob from Maryland 7:10:47 PM
Thanks, Jon!
Rofflestomp 7:11:08 PM
We still have Screaming Females and some others. NJ is rich with a Punk mindset never far away, because nothing says NJ like FU.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:11:12 PM
Happy to help. Doesn't sound like Slumber Party but I was glad to see their name checked as I liked that band a bunch.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:11:36 PM
I think my mom is doing a phyllo / squash situation.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:12:38 PM
The field roast one is pretty good, Mary! Decent flavors. Wish I'd picked up the hazelnut version but someone's allergic.
Mary Jones 7:13:28 PM
Oh, I think I had field roast at a Friendsgiving pre-Covid—was good!
Rob from Maryland 7:13:36 PM
@Jon, exactly. As soon as started investigating the Golem thing I thought "I bet that's Gretchen Gonzales" b/c I know her other bands don't particularly sound like Slumber Party. And it is she.
Rofflestomp 7:14:15 PM
So they set up a field base! See Mary? Civil shelter time... Just sayin'...
Randy Marthins 7:16:00 PM
Did Detention ever play at Abe's near UPenn? I think I remember a flyer
Jon Solomon (host) 7:17:01 PM
Seems quite possible.
Randy Marthins 7:17:52 PM

I used to do some of those, way WAY back - Abe's @40rb & Market used to have hardcore shows in the basement
Rofflestomp 7:20:29 PM

Randy Marthins 7:21:54 PM

Still here, but been making pies. So while i have the chance with clean hands, Happy Thanksgiving Jon and all WPRB friends. Hope everyone has a good weekend! Enjoying this Detention set!
Mary Jones 7:26:43 PM
Goddamn that Jim Carroll line
Rofflestomp 7:27:58 PM
Yea Jon, the world is rather unfair in who it takes...
Mary Jones 7:28:01 PM
When I worked at Barnes and Nobel, we would play Barry Manilow at the end of the night to drive people out of the store.
Christine 🦉 7:28:49 PM
@Mary, I bet that was effective in clearing the store.
Mary Jones 7:29:29 PM
@Christine it really waa
Rofflestomp 7:29:33 PM
Happy whole season DSM, whether your hands are clean or no.
Mary Jones 7:29:33 PM
WAS
Mary Jones 7:30:16 PM
Licorice pizza *works*
Christine 🦉 7:30:52 PM
🤔
Dennis Lingg 7:31:16 PM
Pleasantly chewy.
Rofflestomp 7:32:59 PM
Licorice pizza? The meatless roasts are doing crazy things to people. It's Invasion of the goddamn body snatchers I tell ya!
Randy Marthins 7:33:02 PM
@roffle I'm from Haddonfield #therapyrequired
Rofflestomp 7:33:41 PM
LOL Randy
Jon Solomon (host) 7:34:44 PM
Rofflestomp, I am glad I tried it because I was VERY SKEPTICAL going in.
Rofflestomp 7:35:03 PM
I frickin' bet!
Rofflestomp 7:35:56 PM
Safe lock on that shit is tough to shake loose.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:36:04 PM
Case in point, this photo of my slice - https://twitter.com/jonsolomon/status/1462609644329779202/photo/1
Rofflestomp 7:37:01 PM
Tip toe situation.
Rofflestomp 7:37:40 PM
Look interesting, but you can eat around it, like some of granny's shit.
Rofflestomp 7:38:48 PM
Same spice is in many curries, but in moderation.
Randy Marthins 7:38:58 PM
@mary my first four concerts were KISS, Queen, Barry Manilow and MeatLoaf
Jon Solomon (host) 7:39:30 PM
Pretty sure the cart version of Detention's Dead Rock N Rollers was never properly released. Different lyrics? That's how I remember it!
Rofflestomp 7:40:07 PM
How can you justify that Barry Manilow shit Randy? Were you under pressure from a chick?
Randy Marthins 7:41:28 PM
Yep, drama club
Randy Marthins 7:41:57 PM
I admit that freely
Mary Jones 7:42:25 PM
*looks up song playing*
Mary Jones 7:42:36 PM
*from 1980*
Mary Jones 7:42:46 PM
Yep. Absolutely.
Rofflestomp 7:42:54 PM
@Randy Marthins - Full disclosure, I saw Hall & Oats back then and that band was friggin' awesome in the Glassboro College gym. Go figure.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:43:30 PM
A whole comp of this stuff from Japan. Two LPs.
Mary Jones 7:43:48 PM
I shouldn’t like this but I kinda love it.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:43:49 PM
"City Pop" is the style, apparently.
Rofflestomp 7:44:06 PM
Who hates trombone?
Mary Jones 7:44:24 PM
I feel like I’m walking to Strawbridge and Clothier.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:44:28 PM
Ha.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:44:34 PM
That's outstanding.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:45:02 PM
Race ya to Bamberger's.
Rofflestomp 7:45:42 PM
Feel like I really want to buy this item.
Mary Jones 7:46:07 PM
Oh, I was just talking about Bamberger’s with Dennis! Their commercials were the height of sophistication when I was a kid.
Randy Marthins 7:46:27 PM
To be fair, she also introduced me to Rocky Horror Picture Club, which led to MeatLoaf, and Meatloaf > Ellen Foley > The Clash
Jon Solomon (host) 7:46:30 PM
HERE'S SOME SAX FOR YA.
Dennis Lingg 7:46:53 PM
Thanks Jon!
Christine 🦉 7:47:00 PM
Hot sax! 🎷 🔥
Rofflestomp 7:48:34 PM
Muzak never made you feel bad whether you were going up or down, unless you focused on that insane Beatles cover.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:50:10 PM
@Mary, related to something we were talking about - https://gizmodo.com/dune-is-returning-to-imax-for-a-limited-time-1848119751
Mary Jones 7:50:35 PM
YESSSS!!!
Mike Lupica 7:51:18 PM
My mom worked at Bamberger's when I was a wee lad.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:51:22 PM
Seems like you've got a two week window.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:51:30 PM
THAT is how you make an entrance, Mike!
Mary Jones 7:51:35 PM
I can make it work!
Mike Lupica 7:51:51 PM
Yes, that's my standard line for walking into a saloon.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:51:59 PM
A PANTS SALOON.
Mike Lupica 7:52:05 PM
Nice.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:52:13 PM
We watched the IMAX-sized version of Shang-Chi at home and I thought the aspect ratio worked pretty well.
Mary Jones 7:53:16 PM
Did Shang-Chi shift at all or is it all in IMAX ratio?
Rofflestomp 7:53:17 PM
Heya Mike! Happy day before the shit hits the fan for turkeys!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:53:30 PM
I know I said this on air but thank you all again for your support during WPRB's Silent Drive. What a month it was.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:53:54 PM
I expected it to shift, but no shift. Still black bars on top / bottom of screen but filled more of the TV if that makes sense...
Mary Jones 7:54:44 PM
Yeah, that’s interesting—I still need to see that, I think my sister changed her password on Disney+, so I’m gonna bug her tomorrow.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:55:08 PM
Good plan. I need to do the same but with my parents' Criterion account...
Christine 🦉 7:55:09 PM
Another excellent show, Jon. Thank you!
Jon Solomon (host) 7:55:28 PM
Christine, you're very welcome and I hope you have a great next couple days.
Christine 🦉 7:55:48 PM
Have a nice Thanksgiving, WPRB fam! 🍂🍃🍁 🦃
Mary Jones 7:56:21 PM
Everyone have a nice relaxing day tomorrow!
Ambrose Hughes 7:56:32 PM
Thanks Jon, Happy Thanksgiving to you and all in the chat!
zeuhlbeaux 7:56:39 PM
Peace, party people!
Dennis Lingg 7:56:50 PM
Everyone enjoy their Thanksgiving licorice pizza tomorrow!
Rofflestomp 7:57:11 PM
As always, worked for me too Jon. Happiness, and may your veggies roast well.
Jon Solomon (host) 7:57:21 PM
The pre-Thanksgiving party continues at the top of the hour with The Freeform Lupica and Mike Pathogen. No, I am not correcting that.
Ambrose Hughes 7:58:30 PM
😜
Chris Mohr 7:59:17 PM
Thanks as always, Jon! 📻🎸🥁❗
Jon Solomon (host) 7:59:30 PM
Good to "see" you, Chris!
Rofflestomp 7:59:58 PM
This party does not end for hours. Thanksgiving indeed.
